Roadside Stalls

A long bean fritter as big as my hand. MYR 3 nett. Thin at the sides and thick in the middle part.

Two more fritters. MYR 3 nett each too. Thick prawn fritter on the left and thin crispy prawn fritter on the right. These three fritters are bought from the same stall.

The fritter on the right has a large prawn and is bought from another stall which also sells fried nian gao. It is thick. I think the price is MYR 2.5 nett. The fritter on the right is the exact fritter as in photo 1.

We two shared the fritter with the large prawn and then I finished up the long bean fritter and the thin fritter. I couldn't eat the thick fritter after that because I have had enough oil for the day so I put it in the fridge for another day. As expected, these fritters though crispy for the thin one and at the edges, they are oily.

This is the road side stalls selling the 3 fritters. I always walk by when going to buy fried nian gao and never buy these fritters. Then yesterday I was curious and bought them because usually there is a queue to buy them and yesterday there is no queue. So being curious, I ended up eating lots of oil.

The next day which is Sunday, I ate this thick fritter cold, direct from the fridge.

It is about 2 cm thick at the thickest point which is very thick. Surprisingly I like the taste and the doughy texture. Can't detect the oil when it is cold. Tasty!

*** End update ***

Fried items I bought from the fried nian gao stall at a total of MYR 13 nett. Not sure how the breakdown is. The 8 items are:
1. The fritter with big prawn
2. Two pieces of fried nian gao
3. Two balls of banana cekodok
4. One piece of fried banana
5. One piece of fried sweet potato
6. One piece of fried cassava aka tapioca

He ate one cekodok and I put them - the balance which are 6 pieces in the fridge because I couldn't eat them as enough oil for me. Only item 1 and one of item 3 are cleared.

Roadside Stalls further up from the fritter stall. On the left is the roast duck stall that I always buy duck gizzards from. On the far right, part of the fried nian gao stall can be seen.

On Friday 6 November 2020 d234 evening, a van full of people wearing full ppe gear stopped in front of some shop houses in this taman and escorted workers into a nearby big bus. The assumption is that they are being sent for swab tests. Refer to the two links below for a video and photo. In the photo link, in the comment area, there is a different video. I watched it and got scared.

*** Saturday 7 November 2020 d235 ***

Went out to buy food. My portion of pork Mee Hoon MYR 7 nett and not my hailam tea MYR 2.70 nett (is similar to cham where coffee mixed with tea but this drink contains more tea) bought from swee Heng coffee shop. Also bought three big kosong buns in one pack from sweet Heng at MYR 3 nett.

In the morning food run, I also bought:
1. Braised pork ribs rice at MYR 9 nett from Lucky Alley because the lady wataps me. Nowadays she will wataps me every evening if she thinks I will like the food that she is selling on the next day.
2. 6 tofu ytf in soup, 2 brinjal ytf and 2 bitter gourd ytf at MYR 1.60 nett each so total is MYR 16 nett for my friend.
3. While waiting for food, I walked to the nearby open air wet market and saw that there are rela people putting up thermometer scanners at both end of a makeshift row in front of all the stalls where plastic stripes of ribbon surrounded the stalls to ensure no one walks near the stalls without entering via both ends and get their temperature scanned. A good move by rela people but one of them wore the mask below the nose. 🤦 I was told I should have taken a photo n post it online which I didn't. Didn't see anything to buy so I didn't enter the makeshift "corridor". Everything is open air here so I just walked outside the plastic ribbon barrier and looked at the things sold in the stalls.
4. Then I walked into an organic shop nearby. Scanned temperature 36.3 C and wrote my hp no and name and browse the things in the shop. There are about 3 elderly ladies and one couple in mid twenties in the shop. Bought one organic napa cabbage at MYR 8.11 nett. Bought 1 pack of frozen EverBest Soy knot at MYR 7.50 nett and 2 packs of frozen EverBest Soy Chip at MYR 3.40 nett each for my friend as I am dropping off the ytf so might as well buy more things to drop off as I know these are their regular food as they are vegans.

On Saturday I also went out of control and ordered food delivery a lot. Will talk about them another day. Enough talking for today. Stay safe! And talk behind masks, don't spray saliva around. Even at home, don't spray saliva and wipe every where - cos if one is asymptomatic, one wouldn't want family staying in same household to get it, right?

  4. Those are my favourite snacks. I can finish them all in one sitting and no need to keep in fridge. Lol!

  5. I am not so used to eat fritters with prawns as the prawns always have shells, why they don't want to remove the shells of the prawns, easier to eat. Long beans fritters, have not seen them in sg before. Usually are those with prawns.
