DTF Bento Box

Bento Box C from Din Tai Fung, Gardens Mall: pork chop, fried rice, 3 deep fried vege pork wanton, and 1 salted egg lava bao at MYR 36.99 nett.

Stir fry spinach and 8 prawns at MYR 33.60 nett.

The Bento Box has a small tub of chili oil stuck to it.

Both of us shared this meal so this is my portion. Taste good. The pork chop is marinated with 5 spice powder which I like.

4 prawns

I use half a slice of bread to soak up the garlic "gravy" of the spinach.

 Deep fried vegetable pork wanton.

Lava bao. Next time I will put the lava bao into the fridge so that the fillings solidify to make it less messy to eat.

Contactless delivery as usual. Please leave it in the blue box.

Order time: 10.40 am.
Received delivery: 11.30 am
Very fast delivery although I only paid MYR 1 nett for delivery via grabfood.

WG Palak Paneer

My order: Palak Paneer at MYR 33.92 nett which includes one Naan of my choice so I selected garlic Naan.

There are many cubes of cottage cheese in the Palak Paneer (spinach cottage cheese dish). To my surprise, this Palak Paneer is quite spicy so I took half home and ate half with one quarter Naan. Three quarters Naan, I took home. I like to eat Palak Paneer but normally they are not as spicy as this one.

Interior of Frangipaani restaurant which we have visited once before back in 2019.

My friend couldn't finish her mushroom kadhai and rice so I helped her and finished eating them. Total bill for two pax is MYR 77.40 nett.

*** 20 02 2020 KFC promotion ***

We placed our order and got the number 300 over while they are serving number 197 so guess how many hours did we wait to get our orders?

Super long waiting time for this promo yesterday. 2 snack plate combos for MYR 20 nett. The usual price is about MYR 15 for one snack plate combo.

The receipt has so many 20s and 2s.

Fish and Spinach

Since we did not get to eat the fish slice noodles at the Big Family coffee shop, we went to another eatery to eat some fish slices in soup after our brief stop at the Waterfront, Desa Park City. It was about 2 pm at that time.

Sang Yu slices (ikan Haruan) with baby spinach soup - MYR17 - there are 6 thick slices of fish - 3 slices deep fried and 3 slices not fried. You can choose to have all deep fried or all not fried. I like to eat these fish slices. If only this eatery is near my place then I will eat it every week.

There is really a lot of baby spinach in this soup so it is really worth the price of MYR17 and I could not finish it on my own, have to share it with others.

Soong Fish (松鱼) Head Noodles - Not Fried - MYR10.50 with a milky soup. The other choice is to have deep fried fish. There is a Cantonese saying "松鱼头鲩鱼尾" (Sōng yú tóu huàn yú wěi - Mandarin) meaning if you want to eat fish head, then eat Soong Fish (Big Head Carp), if you want to eat the fish tail, then eat Wan Fish (Grass Carp).

Tasty cendol ice at MYR4.50 a bowl. All prices are nett prices.

We always eat in the air-conditioned outlet since it is bright and looks airy. There is another open air outlet very nearby and the price there I think is a bit lower but I have never been there so I can't verify this.

Pie

I was around Damansara Uptown area and remembered reading reviews about a new eatery, "A Pie Thing" that has just opened here end of May this year. Since I could not eat a pie on my own, I went for a takeaway.

This place does not serve pork so the shortcrust pastry uses only butter and no lard. When home, I ate a quarter of each pie and shared the rest with my family. I even kept half of the spinach pie in the fridge and ate it cold the next morning and the pastry still tastes good.

If you like to eat buttery shortcrust pastry and would like to try these pies, do search out the many reviews online - same good, some not so good and read them to decide beforehand whether or not you will like to eat these pies. They do serve sweet open faced pies too for those with a sweet tooth.

Address: 128G, Jln SS21/35, Damansara Utama, PJ, close on Monday, (Tue to Sun) open from 4pm till sold out.

Bought 3 savoury pies. I did not buy any sweet pies though I was tempted to.

This is to show the size of the pie.

Chunky Steak Pie (MYR11.90 on its own) with Mashed Potatoes, Mushy Peas and Gravy (not shown) - MYR16.90 (named The Mashacre). If you are eating in, the presentation of The Mashacre is different - it does not look like my photo above. The beef is tender enough so thumbs up.

Pulled Lamb Pie - MYR11.90 - the lamb is also tender enough and the flavour is just nice, not overpowering so thumbs up too.

Creamy Spinach Pie - MYR11.90 - with tomatoes in the fillings. Very creamy and a bit on the salty side. I will be back to try the other savoury and sweet pies if I happen to be in the area in the evening.
