Nyonya Pakay Bunga OUG

On Wednesday 28.feb.2024, went to sign and then to eat ice dessert at Kwong Wah OUG again but parked the car quite far away opposite this Nyonya eatery so we went and ate brunch at this Nyonya eatery before walking to eat ice dessert in the hot sun.

*** Cencaluk Omelette ***

11.38 am - nasi lemak rendang chicken MYR 16.90 nett for him. Nasi lemak rendang kambing aka mutton MYR 19.90 nett for me. He chose cencaluk Omelette MYR 12.90 nett which tastes a bit sweet. The mutton cubes are tender and tasty though a bit salty for me.

Total bill is MYR 49.70 nett.

11.26 am - looking at the entrance from our table.

12 noon - this blue green eatery caught our attention after we have parked the car near it so we went to eat brunch there.

12 noon - the entrance. After that we walked to kwong Wah under the hot sun.

*** Kwong Wah Ais Kacang OUG ***

12.05 noon - reached kwong Wah.

12.11 noon - received our orders: ordered cendol ice half sweet for him and ABC low sugar for me which is not sweet so tastes nice 👍🏻 😋 total price for two ice desserts is MYR 13.80 nett.

*** Canton-Z Happy Garden ***

1.09 pm - reached Canton-Z to buy takeaway siew yuk dinner for him. At 12.30 pm, there were only 3 portions of siew yuk left so I bought 2 portions of siew yuk at a total of MYR 22 nett.

WG Nyonya Tingkat

Early Jan 2020, way before CNY, we were at The Sphere for lunch and I asked the staff of this nyonya eatery, which dish is not spicy and she answered Assam Laksa which I don't quite believe her and I asked again which she replied the same thing so I ordered it with mee hoon instead of the default lai fun noodle.

True enough it was not spicy but sweet and sourish a bit. I like it and gobbled the whole portion. Price is MYR 11.99 nett.

Bill from Nyonya Tingkat Signature at The Sphere.

Then four of us went there for dinner on CNY Day 2. Nasi Lemak Daging Hitam Manis and Nasi Lemak Kari Kapitan Ayam.

Nasi Kerabu set with three layer tea drink at MYR 25.19 nett. The drink is not shown in the photo above.

My order: Nyonya dumpling / chang at MYR 11.99 nett.

Taste sweet with soft glutinous rice. Fine by me.

Total price is MYR 78.20 nett for 4 pax.

Flying Fish For Four

On 1 Jan 2019, the four of us went for a nice lunch at the Midvalley Mall.

Deep fried tilapia served with ulam - long beans, lady fingers, petai, cucumber, ulam raja and daun pegaga. The ulam is refreshing since some of them are raw and some of them are lightly blanched so we finished all of them in no time at all. The fish is crispy and tasty. It is quite similar to this Dancing Fish.

2 glasses of soy with cincau (grass jelly), 1 glass of soy drink and 1 glass of ice lemon tea.

Prawn omelette.

The other two dishes we selected for this set lunch are vegetable curry and mutton curry. Both curry dishes are delicious and not too spicy.

A bowl of ABC (ais batu campur) ice dessert for sharing. We added MYR 5.47 nett to the price of the set lunch for each bowl of dessert.

This bowl of cendol is for sharing too. A sweet way to end the meal.

The set lunch for 4 pax costs MYR 88.50+ (10% service charge = MYR 96.84 nett) and we added 2 bowls of dessert at MYR 5.47 each and changed one of the 4 bowls of plain rice to ulam rice by adding MYR 3.28 so the total price is MYR 111.10 nett. Average per pax is about MYR 27.78 which is a good price.

We chose Set B. This promotion ends on 6 Jan 2019 so we may be back for more before it is over. The previous two times we ate here were in Aug and Sep last year.

47BD3 Tamarind Prawns

We are back at AliBaba and Nyonya, Midvalley in the month of August 2018 for their scrumptious food.

Coffee, tea and delicious desserts.

Flavourful Nasi Ulam and Nasi Minyak. The Mutton in the curry is tender and delicious.

I think the prawns are grilled before having the Tamarind sauce poured over them because I can taste the natural sweetness of the prawns brought out by grilling. The prawns are very fresh and I hope they will always be this way when I visit this eatery again.

Total Bill for 4 pax: MYR 147.73 inclusive of 10% service charge which is about MYR 37 per pax.

WG AB and N

We started our lunch with desserts because the main dishes took some time to arrive. Cendol at MYR 8.50+ (10% service charge = MYR 9.35 nett), Sago at MYR 6.50+ (MYR 7.15 nett) and Warm Water at MYR 1.50+ (MYR 1.65 nett). I was very hungry at that time so I was thankful to have cendol to eat while waiting for the main food.

My friend's Mee Siam at MYR 18.50+ (MYR 20.35 nett). It was a big portion so she  had difficulty finishing it. The fried egg has a runny yolk which she loves. There are at least 2 quite big prawns.

My lunch which I kept half for dinner: Nasi ulam with a full chicken leg at MYR 25.50+ (MYR 28.05 nett). This is the only time I ate nasi ulam with bits of salted fish in it with lots of shredded herbs so it was very, very tasty. There are 2 types of raw vegetable/herb leaves which I am not familiar with but I ate them all with cucumber and raw petai. I tried a bit of the sambal belacan and it was not that spicy hot but very fragrant. This dish is worth a try.

Please click the photos of the menu to have a larger image which you may or may not be able to read the words that may be too small.

Prices are kind of high but I guess it is because the food is tasty.

Eggs dishes cost at least MYR 15 each.

Total bill for two pax is MYR 66.55 nett.

This is a new eatery at the Midvalley Mall which opened for business a few months ago. It replaces Olive Garden and is located near to Madam Kwan restaurant.

WG Pandan Rice

Lunch Set - Nasi Pandan Rempah Fish - MYR 18.55 nett with a free drink. I like the fresh chili paste on top of the okras because it is not very spicy and it tastes very refreshing.

This is the amount of food that I kept for my dinner before I start to eat because I know from looking at the amount of food on the plate that I will not be able to finish it.

Bill for 2 pax: MYR 37.10 nett at Restaurant Peranakan Place at One Utama. My friend had the chicken version of my lunch.

Is this eatery under the same chain as the one with the same name located in Nu Sentral, KL? I believe that it is the same franchise but operated by a different franchisee.

Simply Mel's

Dish of the Day served with rice, complimentary appetiser and a Jelly Rose Selasih drink for only MYR12.90++ (MYR14.20 nett) - available Mon to Fri from 11.30am to 3pm with a different dish everyday. On Tuesday it is Pineapple Curry with Prawns with a free appetiser - the round fried ball on the plate - I am not sure what that is but it is some sort of fritters - you can read their menu and look under the appetiser section to see whether or not you can identify this appetiser. The dish also comes with stir-fried vegetables. Since I can't finish a full portion of rice I requested for it to be halved knowing full well that there will be no changes to the price so the portion of rice shown in the photo above is not the normal amount.

Can't see much ingredients in the bowl of curry

Better view now - two prawns in their shells in a sweet and creamy (lemak) coconut curry which has a low level of spiciness just right for me unless one happens to bite into a slice of chili.

That's the amount of pineapple in the curry with the two prawns after I have removed their shells.

Simply Mel's - Malacca Portugese Cuisine - located at The Sphere, Bangsar South. Tel: 22414525 - I have been here to eat the Keluak Curry back in year 2012 and the fact that they are still at the same location today attests to the tastiness and authenticity of the food they serve. I will be back for more lunch meals during week days.

Baba Low's

Nyonya Laksa - MYR7 - I took a sip of the broth and find it to be very hot spicy though not salty. Tasted creamy.

Mee Goreng Nyonya - MYR7.50 - I find this dish too salty for my liking and too much sauce for my liking.

Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng (Fried Chicken) - MYR12.50 - the fried chicken looked really tasty so I ate a piece and found it to be way too salty. If the saltiness level is just right, then it would be super tasty.

Wanted Mee Siam but the waiter says finished so ordered Noodle Soup instead - MYR5.50 - I should have ordered this because it was not salty at all so would be just nice for me.

Cendol - MYR4.50 - the syrup used tastes just like those brown coconut candies wrapped in coloured translucent wrapper that I ate when I was a child but with a slight sourish taste. I prefer the other type of "gula melaka" syrup.
