Biscuits anyone?

I think everyone has eaten this biscuit by now so I went to get myself one. I am talking about the Honey Butter Biscuits by Texas Chicken.

An individual biscuit costs MYR1.60 so I bought a set of one chicken piece, one medium soft drink, one biscuit, one small container of mashed potatoes for MYR6.95 nett just for a piece of this biscuit.

The texture of this biscuit is similar to the cheese biscuits by Red Lobster, crispy on the outside and soft inside. I prefer the latter because it is softer inside and crispier outside and also because I prefer savoury biscuit to the slightly sweet Honey Butter Biscuits.

Pie mistakes

When I was buying the nuggets, I noticed the spinach pie and lychee pie on the menu and just because I ate the taro pie and blueberry pie before, I bought these two new pies too despite knowing full well that I don't like the oily taste of these deep fried pies. I just took one bite of each pie to taste them and then shared the rest of the pies with my family.

Which is which? Eat both at once so it doesn't matter.

Lychee pie - MYR2.60 nett - tastes quite like lychee. As lychees do not have a strong taste, this pie is just another pleasantly mildly sweet pie.

Spinach pie - MYR2.95 nett - gooey fillings with a strangely artificial butter taste to it. I do not like the taste of this pie at all although spinach is one of my favourite vegetables.

New sauce

I read so much about these two new sauces that even though I don't like to dip my food into sauces I went and bought a box of 9 nuggets (ala carte MYR9.80 nett) just so that I could try out the French cheese sauce and Honey mustard sauce. A case of herd mentality perhaps?

The Honey mustard sauce tastes to me like some kind of mayonnaise sauce because it is sweet and the French cheese sauce just tastes like well, cheese sauce. So I just ate one nugget to test both sauces and shared the rest of the nuggets and sauces with my family.

I prefer eating the nuggets with this yellow mustard sauce instead.

Thai "Maggie Mee"

Traditional Thai Boat Noodle but with Thai "Maggie Mee" - MYR1.9x4 = MYR7.96 The noodle tastes like those dry Mamee Monster noodle so they are very flavourful and kind of crunchy like yee mee.

Thai Braised Pork Leg Rice - MYR10.90 with Herbal tea - MYR2.30 and as expected the braised pork leg is kind of sweet.

TeoChew Chendol at One Utama

TeoChew Chendol finally opened a branch in One Utama so we ate there.

Curry mee MYR9.50 nett. Ice Kacang and Chendol - MYR6.30 nett each. Requested for less sugar.

'
Teo Chew Kuang Jiang - MYR7.40 nett. At another branch, we saw a couple eating some fried food and we thought they were Kuang Jiang so we ordered them but they were not what we saw the other day. Kuang Jiang turned out to be fried radish cake.

Closed up on Kuang Jiang - fried radish cake with peanuts embedded, Quite tasty although a bit oily.

Total Bill - MYR29.50

There are two seating areas for us to choose. One on the right of the counter and one on the left.

So many people but we think the food at this branch is not as tasty as the other branches.

Joez Coconut

Coconut Jelly - MYR5.30 nett. I read a newspaper article that says the Coconut Jelly was made by slightly heating up the coconuts. No agar-agar or jelly or konyaku powder was used.

Joez coconut booth at KL Sentral - near to the Touch and Go Booth. They also have other items on the menu, for example, coconut shakes. I wonder whether this coconut shakes taste the same as the one in Sangkaya.

Authentically Sabah

Village Sang Nyuk Noodle with the Special Chili Sauce. You can choose the type of noodle - mee hoon, hor fun, wan ton mee or hakka mee. The Hakka noodle (dry) above is very soft and nice but I don't like the dark sweet sauce mixed with the Hakka noodle. Maybe next time I will ask them to just serve me Hakka noodles without sauce. We ordered all small portions.

Just look at the generous amount of deep fried pieces of lard. The slices of pork and liver are thin and tender, very delicious. I like that the slices of pork are not coated in starch to make them slippery and smooth.

Please click on the menu for a larger image. This is the only page of the menu but good enough for us.

This is the Kuchai Lama Branch. I wonder where the other branches in the Klang valley are located.

Normal Business hours - 9 am to 9 pm. Closed on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday every month. Business hours for the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month - 9 am to 6 pm. Please click on the photo above for a bigger image.

The above items were what we ordered.

Sangkaya at Sri Petaling

I was surprised to see Sangkaya occupying one whole shoplot in Sri Petaling so we went in to have a look and have an ice cream dessert after our early dinner. I noticed that they have chendol on their menu now and an extra topping costs MYR0.50 but then you pay first before adding toppings so should you forget how many toppings you are supposed to put on and took an extra topping, I don't think you will be forced to pay for it.

MYR9.90 nett only for the Signature 4 scoops coconut ice cream with 3 toppings and 4 small pieces of coconut meat. I can do without the toppings but since I wanted a lower cost per scoop, I went for the 4 scoops and it came with 3 toppings of your choice so I selected corn niblets, kidney beans and cornflakes.

The stand where they put the coconut shell on looks so nice, almost like a pewter ware. While we were eating the ice cream, they offered us two tiny paper cups of coconut shakes. Taste quite good to me, very thick and creamy but my friend says that it tastes as if it has milk in it. I think due to the creaminess.

On the menu, it says MYR10.50 for Signature but the bill says MYR9.90 nett. I wonder why. The shop is located at Jalan Radin Bagus 3, Sri Petaling facing a construction site.

Only at Paradigm Mall

This shop lot in Mid Valley Mall used to be occupied by Bulgogi Brothers - a Korean BBQ restaurant. If you miss them, you can still visit this restaurant in Paradigm Mall I believe. I have not eaten at this restaurant before.

On another note, Mikey's Original New York Pizza is opening soon in Mid Valley Mall near where the cinema used to be, on the top floor. Can't wait for it to open to get a taste of New York Pizza.

Hokkien Mee Again!

Hokkien mee again - MYR12.90 +6% GST +10% service charge = MYR15.05 - this one is how Hokkien mee should be - the gravy is thick and sticking to the noodles. There are deep fried lard pieces in the noodle.

Wat Tan Yin Yong - Cantonese style mee hoon mixed with hor fun in an egg gravy - same price as the Hokkien mee above so the nett price is MYR15.05

I love to eat the rice vermicelli (mee hoon) when it has soaked up the egg gravy and is very soft.

For fiber, we ordered a bowl of yin choy (amaranth) soup - MYR9.20 nett

We ordered all these dishes at Kim Lian Kee at Midvalley. My friend laughed at me. She said hah, go to Midvalley to eat Dai Chow (stir fried food cooked at road side stalls), hahahaha!

Total Bill - MYR39.30 for two pax

This is how the place looks  like in Midvalley Mall - there is another branch at Viva Mall and and the headquarter is in Petaling Street.
