Once a while

It has been about 2 years that we ate the roast duck at Soon Fatt Beijing Roast Duck, Kuchai Lama. This time we ordered half a roast duck (MYR 35 nett) but took most of it back home and it lasted us for many meals.

Hokkien Mee for 1 pax - MYR 9.90 + 6% GST = MYR 10.50 nett. This time it tasted nicer because the gravy is on the thicker side unlike the previous time we ate this dish. The deep fried lard was wasted on us because we only ate some of them. We also shared a glass of hot tea at MYR 0.85 nett.

The bill for the noodles and tea: MYR 11.35 nett

Atami Bento

Recently we noticed that "Lai Lai Casual Dining" eatery at Kuchai Lama has been replaced by a new eatery.

I see the words "Free & Unlimited Refill".

They even do deliveries.

Welcoming Entrance.

The address. We may try it one fine day.

Dry Red Curry Noodle

We went to eat at Green Curry Restaurant again and ordered our usual Nasi Lemak (Coconut Milk Rice) with Pork Green Curry set which comes with a drink. From MYR9.90 nett in 2015, its price has increased to MYR10.90 nett for that set.

Then we ordered another dish from the ala carte menu for MYR8.50 nett - Red Pork Curry Noodle (Dry). The red curry has lemon grass in it which tastes very good. The thick noodle is very springy and I had to chew it for quite a bit before swallowing and is mixed with dark sweet soy sauce and sesame oil. The lightly blanched cabbage goes well with the curry to tone down the flavours of the curry and noodle soy sauce with sesame oil seasoning.

Not again

Nasi Lemak again! We ran an errand around the area so we went to eat at Brilliant Nasi Lemak House. We ordered two plates of nasi lemak and one glass of hot barley bencurd drink at MYR2.80+ (MYR2.95 nett).

Ordered one with Sambal Prawn - MYR8.80+ (MYR9.35 nett). The portion of rice is definitely much more than Poppo's but the sambal is so much less. Since I only take a bit of sambal, I am fine with the little bit of sambal which is too spicy for me. There were only 5 small prawns.

The other one is with Pork Rendang because we don't get that in many eateries that serve nasi lemak - MYR8.50+ (MYR9 nett). I tried one piece of pork and found that the pork taste is too strong for me.

The price of nasi lemak here is between Poppo Kanteen and Tea Garden and the taste is acceptable. We will eat here if we want to eat prawns sambal, squid sambal or pork rendang but not if we want to eat beef or mutton since beef and mutton are not served here.

Restoran Formosa

Someone wrote on her blog that there is a restaurant in Kuchai Entrepreneur Park that sells authentic Taiwanese food that is better than Fong Lye so we went to have a try.

Braised Pork Rice - MYR6.90++ (MYR7.68 nett) and Salted Vege Pork Stomach Soup - MYR12++ (MYR13.36 nett).

Braised pork rice with salted vegetable. The braised pork was all chopped up and has some fatty bits.

The salted vegetable in this soup is too salty so we left some behind.

Pork with Leeks dumplings (8 in a serving) - MYR9.90++ (MYR13.36 nett). This dish is the main reason I came here.

Lots of leeks in the filling so it is all good but the skin is too thin. I prefer them to be thicker so I am not going to order them again.

Interior. The website is formosataiwan.com.my

Exterior

Spot the Taiwan Island.

Total bill: MYR32.05 nett after applying 5% service charge and 6% GST.

Mee Suah

We were back at Green Curry Restaurant for an early dinner at 5.30 pm one day.

Herbal Chicken Set (with a drink) - MYR9.90 nett but for the noodle, we chose mee suah so we had to add MYR0.50 for it so the price is MYR10.40 nett. There are no extra charges for other types of noodles. Only for mee suah, an additional 50 cents is imposed. The broth tastes of "dong quai" (Angelica sinensis) and I find it tasty.

Green Curry Laksa Set (with a drink) with pork and mee suah so add 50 cents to the set price of MYR9.50 nett making it MYR10 nett. This time I did not take any photos of the drinks as they were the same drinks that I ordered previously. It seems that mee suah is more expensive than other types of noodle such as yellow mee, hor fun and mee hoon (rice vermicelli).

Hot! Hot!

I have eaten this seafood yee mee early last year with clear broth. This time I requested for Tom Yam broth but it was too hot and spicy for me so I must remember to stay with the clear broth next time.

Regulars

We have been dining at Green Curry Restaurant frequently to try out more items on their menu.

This delicious braised pork, scrambled egg rice set which comes with a drink costs MYR7.90 nett so it is value for money.

This ala carte bowl of 3 dumplings (3 sui gao only) costs MYR6.80 nett so at MYR2.26 per dumpling, I find it quite expensive and the taste is not that great so we are not going to order this next time.

Happy Weekend!

Pork yee mee with pork liver (MYR8 nett) at Try Mee. Yee Mee is a type of noodle made from wheat flour and eggs or lye water (kansui). They are deep fried and then dried before being used to cook this dish. Have a good weekend!

Traditional Recipe Restaurant

Siew Yoke Mui Choy Chung - MYR6.80 with a whole salted egg yolk. I like to eat glutinous rice so this tastes fine to me although the rice that came into contact with the fatty bits of the pork is quite oily and I had to pick out all the fatty bits carefully before eating the dumpling.

This is the picture on the menu. There are other types of dumplings sold too so next time I know where to go for a dumpling fix.

This place also sells pan mee - MYR7.80 (small portion). There is a 5% service charge on the bill when we paid it.

They also sell savoury tau fu fa so I will be back to try it. They are located at 6, Jalan Kuchai Maju 19, Off Jalan Kuchai Lama.

Brilliant Nasi Lemak House

Nasi Lemak Set that includes Brilliant's Dessert - MYR17.80 - fried chicken, prawn and squid stuffed with minced pork. The fried chicken has been marinated for too long I suspect because the meat is a bit too salty for my liking.

Brilliant's dessert is included in the above set meal. Grass jelly, sea coconut, longan, white fungus, chewy tapioca balls (big sago) in syrup and ice. Ala carte price is MYR4.80 but ours is included in the above set meal.

Nasi Lemak Pork Rendang - MYR8.20 - the rice is firm and I prefer the rice to be very much softer. I still prefer beef rendang to pork rendang.

Kuay Tiew Reua

*** Updated (Jan 2016): this eatery is no longer at this location. I am not sure whether it has moved to some other location or is no longer in business.

After we finished eating at Win Soon, we walked out the eatery and saw a queue next door. So we looked for the name of the shop and saw it - Authentic Thai Boat Noodle. We will be back to try this noodle when the queue is no longer there.

Long queue

Then we saw this banner.

Win Soon

Many years back, I have been to this Win Soon eatery or also known as Ah Soon Fish Head Mee at Kuchai Lama but have never written about it so when recently we went there again and they taste just as good as during my previous visits, I decided to post this. They also serve Tom Yam broth for your noodle if you do not want to have the normal fish head broth. The normal fish head broth is already very flavourful but if you want it to be spicy, then go for the Tom Yam broth.

Fresh water prawn and fried fish head noodle without milk - MYR18.80

Fish meat (not fried) noodle - MYR9.50 - can you see the deep fried lard?

Deep fried fish head noodle - MYR9.5 - the deep fried fish pieces are very crunchy

Deep fried fish head with squid (sotong) meatballs - MYR9.50 - the sotong meatballs are normal fish meatballs with sotong pieces in them.

Iced coffee and Iced "Teh Tarik" - MYR4.40 each - after this meal, I read from another blog post that their in-house prepared drinks should be avoided at all costs and to only order hot chinese tea or soft drinks from cans. Too late for me but not for you. It is true, the iced "teh tarik" has a sweet artificial flavouring taste to it so it is not nice to drink.
