Not again

Nasi Lemak again! We ran an errand around the area so we went to eat at Brilliant Nasi Lemak House. We ordered two plates of nasi lemak and one glass of hot barley bencurd drink at MYR2.80+ (MYR2.95 nett).

Ordered one with Sambal Prawn - MYR8.80+ (MYR9.35 nett). The portion of rice is definitely much more than Poppo's but the sambal is so much less. Since I only take a bit of sambal, I am fine with the little bit of sambal which is too spicy for me. There were only 5 small prawns.

The other one is with Pork Rendang because we don't get that in many eateries that serve nasi lemak - MYR8.50+ (MYR9 nett). I tried one piece of pork and found that the pork taste is too strong for me.

The price of nasi lemak here is between Poppo Kanteen and Tea Garden and the taste is acceptable. We will eat here if we want to eat prawns sambal, squid sambal or pork rendang but not if we want to eat beef or mutton since beef and mutton are not served here.

    1. Yes, they are not commonly found in nasi lemak eateries.

  2. Strong tasting pork, even in rendang? I thought with all the ingredients, it would be drowned out - like wild boar in curry, no more of its unique taste, not nice.

I wonder what that strong taste is like - my cousin here from Kuching that day seemed very wary about it everytime we had pork, and always asked got smell or not...and thankfully, all that we ate passed the acid taste, no smell.

    1. I guess the rendang gravy has not got into the pork, not marinated or cooked long enough. The strong pork taste is very different from the taste of wild boar. The strong pork taste is referred to as boar taint here:

  3. Wow! I had never tried pork with nasi lemak. The seller must be a Chinese. I would normally flood my plate with lots of spicy sambal. Yums!

    1. You can still have nasi lemak, just request for a quarter of the rice and eat just a little bit of the sambal as most sambal contains lots of sugar.

  5. The rice looks big, I surely cannot finished but the sambal looks good here...

    1. Yes, the portion of rice is the portion from a normal rice bowl.

  6. Both I like but I will choose the sambal prawns. Less rice with more sambal. Yums!

  8. Yep if eat these things too frequently, will feel like it's an overdose! I've also been eating a lot of nasi lemak recently. Had that one day, shortly after went to a shop famous for nasi lemak so of course had that, shortly after someone brought to work, next week we're having a makan and someone is bringing nasi lemak. A bit too much of a good thing!

    2. Different definitely. Still feel overdose though!

    3. Since you eat rice everyday to go with various dishes, won't the same apply? Overdose of rice?

  9. I think I might not know you as I thought I did. I thought you're more plain and health conscious in food compared to me. WTF is with these continuous nasi lemak? Or actually you did not eat them continuously, just the blog post continuously? @.@

    1. You are really very smart. I did not eat them back to back but a few days apart. I don't think eating nasi lemak is unhealthy since I only eat a bit of the sambal and half of the rice (keep the other half for dinner). Peanuts, the selected meat, cucumbers, hard boiled eggs and deep fried anchovies should be ok, right?

    2. The rice is the killer part. Unless you requested for normal rice and not the proper santan rice. :/

    3. Santan rice is way better than chicken rice cooked with chicken oil or lard rice.
