Seven Canteen

On Friday 19.jan.2024, kid4 flew back to say goodbye to the elderly.

2.44 pm - he ate this bowl of 3jc dry MYR 11.80 and a cup of hot coffee MYR 2 for his early dinner before going to the hospital. I didn't eat any of his food because my omad was completed much earlier.

The new eatery in ssg called Seven Canteen. Business hasn't picked up yet. Serves noodles and one dish rice.

Yesterday we grabbed to hospital at 3.20 pm and waited till 5 pm to see the nephrologist who informed us that no point to do dialysis since the heart is also failing. He said could be the very same night, the elderly may move on but till today we didn't get the call so the elderly is still hanging on.

The isolation ward doesn't allow visitors but since the elderly is going soon, they allowed kid1 and him to see the elderly one by one. The elderly is alert despite having the 4x pressurized oxygen mask on and told them that legs are painful and having cramps. Also say very uncomfortable. No last words because the elderly doesn't want to go.

So today kid4 flew back to say goodbye. I think this moving on process may take longer than the doctors estimated because they don't know the elderly is very resilient and is not willing to go so I think may take up to 7 to 14 days. Hopefully kid4 can persuade the elderly to move on peacefully.

Thong Kee Sea Park

Breakfast for 2 before going to work. I had to finish the croissant after my friend took a bite because she does not like the taste of butter in it. She did not expect it to have butter as it was supposed to be a ham and egg croissant, with no mention of butter whereas I am indifferent to it.

1 Kaya Butter Hainan Toast, 1 Croissant (Ham & Egg), 1 Iced Coffee, 1 Hot Cham (Coffee mixed with Tea) at 7.15 am for 2 pax. Total price: MYR 13.90 nett. I can't remember the price of each item.

Even though it was early, this coffee shop was full.

Sat Breakfast

A bowl of hor fun mixed with mee hoon and slices of pork liver - MYR 6.50 nett, 3 pieces of stuffed fish paste yong tofu (brinjal, bitter gourd, and lady finger) at MYR 1.50 nett each and a cup of tea at MYR 1.50 nett.

2 rolls of chee cheong fun (rice noodles) wraps at MYR 2.50 nett each.

A closer look at the fillings of julienned jicama, carrots and wood ear fungus. The chee cheong fun is soft and smooth so these rolls are tasty!

Brunch for two pax.

Wild Honey Scrambled Egg Toasts at MYR 14++ (10% service charge and 6% GST making it MYR 16.35 nett). Portion is not too big, suitable for me.

Salmon Breakfast Platter - MYR 32++ (MYR 37.30 nett). I almost always order this platter when I eat here. As usual it did not disappoint.

Total Bill for 2 pax: MYR 53.65 nett at BreadFruits.

Mall Food

9 am breakfast for two - ala carte fish fillet burger without the tartar sauce (MYR 7.50 nett). McSavers Breakfast Mix and Match Special Price Set at MYR 5.99 nett - I selected Chicken Ham Egg Wrap (Normal Price is MYR 4.80 nett) and Cakoi (Youtiao - Normal Price is MYR 2.50 nett).

The Breakfast Wrap Chicken Roll is tasty despite being a bit on the salty end. I like the taste of the gooey melted cheese with the egg in the wrap.

These are the items in the McSavers Breakfast Mix and Match.

So convenient now that they accept card payment.

12 noon - lunch for two. Ordered the combo to share - 1 noodle, 1 delight item and 1 drink for only MYR 18.90 nett. Prawn Mee - Normal price is MYR 10.90 nett. Sotong KangKung - Normal Price is MYR 9.90 nett and Hot Cocoa drink - Normal price is MYR 5.50 nett so quite a significant saving by ordering the combo. Next time I am going to request for the sotong kangkung sauce to be served separately because they put in too much sauce.

Two bowls of my favourite chendul at MYR 6.50 nett each with an extra bowl of shaved ice (foc).

Big Enough

I went there again with my spouse to share this big big breakfast recommended by PH and it was as nice as said. At MYR 29+ (10% service charge = MYR 31.90 nett) I would say that it is good value for money. My spouse ordered sunny side up eggs and I just ate 1 of the whites while he ate two yolks and 1 white. The 2 slices of pork belly bacon is crispy and thicker than those served by other eateries. The mushrooms and tomato that were underneath the sausage and bacon slices were tasty too.

As there were no greens on the plate of big breakfast, I ordered a salad (with 5 pieces of siu yuk - roast pork belly) to share with my spouse at the same price MYR 29+ (MYR 31.90 nett). I like that the dressing was served separately in a small saucer. It was a very big portion of greens and we took some time to finish it.

Must order cakes too to take advantage of the get 1 free promotion. A slice of chocolate walnut cake at MYR 12+ (MYR 13.20 nett).

A slice of mocha cake at the same price of MYR 13.20 nett but was foc due to the promotion. I kept half of the cakes for tea at home.

We took advantage of the get 1 free coffee promotion too - Cafe Latte at MYR 9+ (MYR 9.90 nett) and Espresso at MYR 8+ (MYR 8.80 nett). The item with the lower price (Espresso) is foc due to the promotion.

Twice a day

I visited Wild Honey, Pavilion again and noticed that the Barbary (duck leg confit) dish and Greek (Open faced omelette baked with fragrant lamb moussaka) dish have been removed from their menu and there were new items in the menu.

For breakfast, two of my friends and I ordered two dishes to share. Each of my friend chose 1 dish. 

This dish is called "European" - cherry tomatoes, two poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce, mushrooms, turkey ham on brioche at MYR 25++ (10% service charge and 6% GST = MYR 29.15 nett).

Chicken Sandwich - MYR 34++ (MYR39.65 nett). 

Grilled chicken breast, lemon mayo, rocket, tomato on grilled ciabatta.

All these food for 3 pax.

I did not order any drinks. The cup of flat white coffee and a pot of hot tea are for my friends. We did not share the drinks. Total bill for 3 is MYR 99.10 nett.

I ended up at the same place for lunch on the same day with two two friends. This time each of us chose a dish to share. It so happened that the same dish (European) was selected by one of my friend.

Somehow I feel that this dish looks better this time when compared to the one I had during breakfast. From the photos, don't you think so too?

This is my choice - Roasted Pumpkin and Sweet Potato salad - MYR 26++ (MYR 30.30 nett).

Baby spinach, chickpeas, toasted pine nuts, tomatoes and honey mustard dressing. So tasty!

Belgian at MYR 24++ (MYR 28 nett). One of my friend decided to have a sweet dessert lunch.

Waffles with coconut cream, grilled mango, blueberries, toasted coconut flakes with Canadian maple syrup.

MYR 115.43 nett for 3 pax. We shared the food but not the drinks. As with breakfast, I did not order any drinks but my two friends did buy a drink each.

Congee

Early one morning at 8 am, I decided to eat rice porridge with some dishes (braised hard boiled egg, bittergourd and glass noodles mixed vegetables) from the mix rice stall. The above costs MYR5 nett. It is nice to have a change from the usual soup noodles.

Not for Me

Recently, I have been visiting all-day-breakfast places such as Wild Honey and Ra-Ft so when I read of another highly recommended breakfast and coffee eatery, I went there to try out the food with my 3 friends at 8 in the morning.

Since this place does not serve pork, I did not order its Full Breakfast aka Big Breakfast. Instead I ordered the Turkish Breakfast (MYR39.60 nett) which was given many good reviews. The description on the menu says: "Phyllo (filo) -wrapped soft-boiled organic egg, crispy feta, fresh cucumber and tomatoes, olives, hummus and pita bread". Honey was also provided.

Now you can see the egg and two small balls of feta cheese (too salty). I find the pita (underneath the greens) too hard for my teeth.

As we share all the food, my friend ate this soft boiled egg with its runny yolk.

As I love to eat the brioche french toast at Ra-Ft, I was very eager to try the Fluffy brioche French Toast (MYR29.70 nett) here as online reviews say that it is one of the best french toast in the Klang valley. It is served with vanilla ice cream, berries compote and maple syrup.

Although it is soft and could be considered fluffy, as it was deep fried, I don't quite like the smell of oil on it. Its taste reminded me of those soft and fluffy deep fried doughnut.

I also tried the filtered coffee which was served in a bottle (MYR16.50 nett) with its name card (Ardi Sidama, Ethiopia) around its neck. Plain drinking water was provided foc for all.

This card describes the taste of the filtered coffee: fruit tones with floral and dark chocolate notes. Unfortunately as I am not a coffee drinker, I am lost here.

From 8 to 9.30 am there is a bakery promotion (mentioned on FB) - for MYR12+ (MYR13.20 nett), one can have a pastry with a coffee. The price for a pastry is about MYR8 and for a Flat White (coffee) is about MYR12 so this promotion is worth having. We ordered a cinnamon pastry that my friend doesn't want to eat because it is too buttery. To me, the cinnamon taste is stronger than the butter taste.

and a cup of Flat White. Do ask for this promotional price if you are dining there from 8 to 9.30 am.

Total bill for 4 pax is MYR98.99 nett (MYR99). I don't think I will eat here again as the food does not suit me and they were playing R&B songs and classic soul songs such as September by Earth, Wind and Fire (I think STP would know this song) so early in the morning at 8 when my ears are not fully awake yet.
