2 Hainan Coffee Stalls

On Wednesday 21.aug.2024, early start again. We reached pudu icc food court at about 6.46 am.

*** Pudu ICC Food Court ***

6.54 am - we shared a prawn mee MYR 13 nett, the soup is on the sweet side, not spicy. The sambal has a lot of blended dried shrimps in it.

6.55 am - a set of eggs, hot Hainan coffee and Kaya butter toast MYR 8.20 nett from Keng Swee Hainan coffee stall.

6.47 am - the two stalls are in this row.

7.20 am - curry mee which we shared with the default char siew, long beans and siham. The curry soup is very mild, not spicy and the char siew on the lean side with a thin layer of fats.

7.33 am - curry mee is from this Feng Yang stall.

7.22 am - we sat in this area because we wanted to try a cup of hot Hainan coffee MYR 2.60 nett from this Sang Kee Hainan coffee stall. I believe there are about 10 drinks stalls serving coffee in this pudu icc food court but I didn't go around counting them.

Close up.

7.51 am - My popiah, one regular roll and one roll with floss from Auntie Mei's stall. This combo is MYR 10 nett. I also bought a pack of takeaway iced cham MYR 3.50 nett from the coffee stall that governs this seating area which ended up with us drinking it all and not taking it away.

7.55 am - I asked him to eat stomach pepper soup without noodles in the same area.

*** Tea and Early Dinner ***

9.24 am - I asked him to buy two lard pastry egg tarts from Bunn choon for himself since he doesn't like Nam Heong egg tarts anymore due to the fragrant buttery taste so he ate the tarts at home for morning tea.

1.16 pm - he bought yellow wine chicken egg mihun for early dinner from pudu icc.

1.20 pm - I wanted to close shop immediately when back at 8.40 am but then remembered I need to eat the half avocado 🥑 he kept in the fridge for me so ended up I ate the avocado and some of the remaining yellow wine mihun.

The bruised avocado is ok to be eaten as long as it doesn't have any white mold and the taste and smell is ok.

Morning 44.75
Next morning 45.65
Wah, so much water retained cos eat too much and didn't end early.

Wasabi Seaweed Popiah

On Sunday 5.nov.2023, went to Swee Hing coffee shop for brunch but it was closed so went to Kokan coffee shop instead.

*** Kokan coffee shop ***

8.51 am - he ordered chicken feet mushrooms dry wanton noodles and hot cham MYR 2.6 nett. I ordered two popiah:
1. Wasabi mayo seaweed popiah MYR 8 nett. The wasabi is so strong that it cleared his congested nose.
2. Citrus mayo seaweed popiah MYR 7 nett.

Both popiah have raw shredded jicama in them as fillings. Taste nice so will buy them again.

8.57 am - toasts and two half boiled eggs MYR 7.40 nett.

8.57 am - my iced Cham O Kosong MYR 3.3 nett. It still tastes a bit sugary sweet. I guess the coffee beans were roasted with sugar perhaps. No sour taste as I prefer.

8.59 am - cross sections of popiah with shredded raw jicama and crunchy bits of I-don't-know-what as fillings. Will order the wasabi popiah only when I need to have congested nose cleared because the wasabi is strong. Citrus popiah can be ordered again too. For both popiah, I requested for minimum mayo.

8.59 am - he left this large amount of noodles for me so after I ate them all, I didn't eat anything for the day anymore so my omad is completed at 9 ish am.

Two Popiah Stalls

On Saturday 23.jul.22, he suddenly suggested to buy food delivery from ICC Pudu Food Court. In the evening, went out to Fatty Mixed Rice Sri Petaling to buy chapfan dinner for the Elderlies.

2 pm - these 2 pieces of Popiah are from different stalls but they taste very similar.

2 pm - I am not even sure which pack of Popiah is from each stall. The only difference in taste I can detect is that one has fried shallot one which is not detected in pack 2. Apart from that, they both taste the same, on the sweet side crispy deep fried eggs tiny pieces in them.

The two stalls in Pudu ICC food court are:
Auntie Mei's Crispy Popiah and Alice Crispy Popiah.

Delivery was arranged by the seller seamlessly via the easyeat app at MYR 9 and this timr they use lalamove transport service. Bought 10 food items of which 2 are for the Elderlies lunch as below:

Petai Ckt with mixed kway teow and yellow noodles.

Hot pepper pork mihun soup. The default ingredients are pork stomach and pork meatballs. The elderlies love these two Dishes.

Dinner for the Elderlies is chapfan from fatty mixed rice. The two packs of chapfan costs MYR 16 nett.

Early Breakfast

7.07 am - Dine-in 18 on Thursday 17 Sep 2020 d184 at O&S, PJ. Kway Teow Th'ng at MYR 6.50 nett and one popiah at MYR 2.30 nett. Cham hot at MYR 1.90 nett. Takeaway nasi lemak curry chicken at MYR 6 nett and dry 3jc noodles at MYR 7 nett. Before this, I finished eating the remaining pepper lamb pie from the fridge, ate it cold directly from the fridge. Still tasty, very peppery.

O&S has removed a few tables to implement physical distancing and put divider board on some tables so that different parties can sit at the same table.

They even have an auto temperature scanner so O&S is a coffee shop that implements the SOP properly.

1.06 pm - My-dine-in 1 without my spouse. This is a prepacked lunch box at MYR 3.50 nett with fried fish fillet and a deep fried hard boiled egg so I couldn't adjust the amount of rice in it. I didn't want to eat so much rice but I also didn't want to waste food so I finished the rice. After that I just ate two bananas at 6.30 pm for dinner.

6.16 pm - not my dinner of 3 jc noodles bought from O&S coffee shop in the morning.

WG Kerabu Mee

The Imbi Wet Market has moved to Pudu a few years ago and it is only now I managed to go there for its food court during lunch.

Cham Ping (Iced Coffee mixed with Tea) at MYR 2.50 nett and a plate of kerabu instant noodles (MYR 6 nett) which I requested to be not spicy. There is a lot of raw shallots, onions and tomatoes as it is supposed to be a sweet and sour salad with noodles.

Sisters crispy popiah at MYR 3 nett for a roll compared to MYR 4.70 for a roll at Sisters crispy popiah kiosk in shopping malls.

Self service means you pay and wait for your order to be ready to carry your own plate to your seat.

Popiah

I like to eat the traditional style popiah (spring roll). Popiah (薄饼 - BáoBǐng in Mandarin) means thin (Báo) biscuit/pastry (Bǐng) which refers to the thin wrapper skin used to wrap the fillings. I don't like to eat those with lots of deep fried crispy fillings inside them.

One popiah roll costs MYR 2 and I often request for no sauce and no chilli so the popiah will look pale as shown in the photo above.

Cross section showing the fillings: jicama, lettuce, egg, onions, tofu.
