Kwan Kee Store PJ HK Michelin

On Thursday 4.apr.2024, he wanted to eat Kai see hor fun soup at Tong Kee Sri Petaling. I remember seeing Kai see hor fun dish in the menu of Warisan Kopi happy garden so I counter suggest going to Warisan Kopi. He accepted my suggestion.

*** Thursday 28.mar.2024 ***

Back in November 2023, He told me that a HK pastry shop that is recommended by HK Michelin Guide is now in PJ. So last week, when we were in PJ, he stopped by that shop for me to buy the steamed items.

11.38 am - there was quite a long queue so I joined the queue. All items are takeaway items. There is no dine in area.

11.46 am - the board says "We Grind our own Rice Paste Daily using Fresh Glutinous Rice with our Stone Mill."

There are more items in the glass cabinets than the items listed on their menu. In this glass cabinet, there are:

A. Sticky Rice Roll:
1. Musang King
2. Peanuts
3. Red Bean
4. Mango Sago Pomelo MYR 6.90 nett.
I bought one sticky rice roll only - the one with mango Sago pomelo fillings. Tastes good. Will buy it again.

B. Steamed translucent Cakes
1. Osmanthus MYR 7.90 nett.
2. Water Chestnut MYR 7.90 nett.
I bought both types.

1.26 noon - the above are half portions of:
1. Mango sticky rice roll which I like a lot and will buy again,
2. Steamed water chestnuts cake which tastes better when cold. Similar to jelly but contains water chestnuts flour starch.
3. Steamed osmanthus cake which I think uses chestnuts floor starch too so it tastes better when cold.

11.48 am - in the 2nd glass cabinet, there are many items so I bought one of each. Can you see the two small bowls of steamed glutinous rice cake aka woon Zhai gou in the glass cabinet above?

1.30 pm - brown sugar rice bowl cake MYR 4.90 nett. Purple potato rice bowl cake MYR 6.90 nett. Both steamed cakes taste fine. This photo shows half portion as I gave half portion to my friend.

1.36 pm - This photo shows half portion as I gave half portion to my friend.
- Steamed sesame layer cake MYR 6.90 nett. Strong and rich sesame taste.
- steamed red bean cake MYR 6.90 nett. Full of red beans.
- steamed white sugar sponge cake MYR 4.90 nett. Quite dense and compact.

11.49 am - many items in this 2nd glass cabinet. One item doesn't even have a name with price card.

1.35 pm - This photo shows half portion as I gave half portion to my friend.
- steamed pandan cake MYR 6.90 nett. Taste similar to kuih talam but not as soft.
- steamed red date cake MYR 7.90 nett. I can't remember the taste.
- steamed molasses chestnut cake MYR 7.90 nett. I can taste chestnuts in this cake.
- steamed almond aka apricot seeds cake MYR 7.90 nett. Strong almond aka apricot seeds taste.

1.33 pm - This photo shows half portion as I gave half portion to my friend.
- steamed radish cake MYR 13.90 nett. This is the only savoury cake. Tastes good due to the dried tiny scallops in it. Will buy it again.
- steamed hawthorn cake MYR 7.90 nett. My friend likes this cake the best because it is sourish due to the hawthorn.

1.33 pm - This photo shows half portion as I gave half portion to my friend. Top view of radish cake and Hawthorn cake.

11.49 am - more items in this 2nd glass cabinet.

11.35 am - these are empty wife cake boxes. The wife cakes are freshly baked so customers need to ask for them at the cashier's counter. I bought one box of wife biscuits MYR 29.90 nett to try.

1.22 pm - wife biscuit, freshly baked so it is soft and tastes good as it is only very slightly sweet.

12.11 noon - total price is MYR 135.50 nett. These items are eaten by 5 pax. All 5 pax agree that the Glutinous rice flour used is fresh and taste good. These are fine dining steamed glutinous rice cakes by its taste, texture and price.

My friend's platter of steamed glutinous rice cakes. All eaten on the same day.

11.51 am - Kwan Kee Store PJ SS2. It only took about 13 minutes for me to queue and complete my purchase.

Friday 29.mar.2024 11.33 am - we ate all the remaining steamed glutinous rice cakes after one night in the fridge. Still taste good. Not as soft as day 1.

Warisan Kopi happy garden:

10.52 am - his iced coffee MYR 3.50+
My iced Warisan coffee MYR 3.80+ which tastes similar to white coffee
A bowl of Kai si hor fun noodles soup  MYR 9.50+ to be shared by 2 of us.

10.57 am - I ordered tortoise sugar toasts again MYR 5.50+ and wrongly ordered hailam coffee Kaya toasts MYR 3.80+ when I wanted to order sardine hotdog sandwiches. I have no idea why I wrote the wrong item number on the order form. He said the universe prevented me from eating hotdog so made me wrote the wrong item number.

11.17 am - total price is MYR 27.70 nett.

11.02 am - my portion of the noodles. The hor fun is thicker. I ate the shell of the prawn too. The soup tastes good without any msg as I wasn't thirsty after that.

Chicken Glutinous Rice

On Sunday 17.apr.22, went to Taman Desa as per routine to buy food.

Lo Mai kai from Tuck Tuck Tei coffee shop at MYR 4.40 nett. I like it because it uses chicken breast meat so there wasn't any fats and the glutinous rice is soft without being overloaded with gravy. Will definitely buy it again.

Our shared dinner from Choy Kee coffee shop, Taman Desa. Duck breast meat at MYR 9 nett and duck thigh meat with char siew rice at MYR 15 nett. Also bought a pack of deboned roast chicken thigh with char siew rice at MYR 10 nett for the elderly's lunch.

Our shared lunch from Tuck Tuck Tei coffee shop: rice, steamed chicken thigh, yin choy, long beans, soy knot, egg tofu, bitter gourd, and okra for MYR 11.50 nett. For the elderly's lunch, it was rice, brinjal, scrambled eggs and egg tofu.

The elderlies' dinner delivered directly to them - sweet and sour fish fillet rice and ginger onion fish fillet rice from Yan Kitchen, Sri Petaling. Used PestaPanda promo code to get MYR 10 off so it was good value for money.

Takeaway Only

Rice dumpling at MYR 8+ (6% SST = MYR 8.48 nett). I like the taste and texture of the soft glutinous rice.

Loh Mai Kai at MYR 7.42 nett. I was surprised to see a piece of hard boiled egg and lots of mui choy (梅菜).
There were 5 pieces of siu mai (MYR 5.30 nett) next to the loh mai kai but 2 were eaten before I took this photo.
Total price is MYR 21.20 nett.

Sea Park Dessert OUG

Lor Mai Fan (MYR 2.50 nett), Pork Noodle with lots of vege and herbs (MYR 7 nett) and 2 bowls of dessert (tong sui) at MYR 2.50 nett (bubur cha cha and barli ginkgo bean curd sheets). Total: MYR 14.50 nett for 2 pax and as we used a mobile app e-wallet to pay this bill, we were given 50 cents cashback.

From a Yam Cake poster on the wall, I noticed that this shop has two branches - a stall in Kedai Kopi Khoong, Sea Park, PJ and a stall in Hong Kopitiam, Desa Sri Hartamas. I realised that I have been to the branch in Sea Park a few times to buy their desserts.

Storefront in OUG

A closer look: It says "Sea Park Dessert Since 1969". I will be back to try the yam cake.

HK Sheng Kee Dessert Midvalley

Tong Yuen (Glutinous Rice Balls) in Ginger Syrup at MYR 6.90++ (10% service charge and 6% GST making it MYR 8.05 nett). The Ginger Syrup is quite concentrated so it is sweet with a strong taste of ginger which is peppery (la - 辣).

Honey Chrysanthemum drink (Hot) at MYR 6.90++ (MYR 8.05 nett). They put a lot of honey in this drink so it is on the sweeter side but honey is supposed to be good for health and with this price I would expect them to put in more honey.

I notice that the drinks from this eatery is quite concentrated so I am wary about ordering those sweet drinks. Will stick to hot chinese tea next time.

Initially I ordered HK chee cheong fun (flat rice noodles) with prawns but was told that since this is their 2nd day of business, the HK chee cheong fun device is not available yet.

My order: Wanton soup at MYR 15.90++ (MYR 18.55 nett). There are 6 wanton dumplings in this soup so that means it is about MYR 3.10 for 1 wanton, about the price of a piece of sushi but each wanton contains one whole prawn so I guess it is somewhat worth it. The prawns taste fresh too. Next time I will take a photo of the cross section of the wanton to show the whole prawn in it.

My spouse's order: Braised Pork Belly with Mui Choy (Preserved vegetable) Rice - MYR 16.90++ (MYR 19.70 nett). The rice is very sticky and soft which I like. The gelatinous fats of the pork belly just melt in the mouth but could be quite cloying too so my spouse could not finish it and I had to help him with one quarter of this dish. Of course I try to remove as much fats as I could before eating the pork belly and I could feel pork belly lovers shaking their heads at me as they read this.

Loh Mai Kai (Glutinous Rice with Chicken) at MYR 7.90++ (MYR 9.20 nett). I looked at the receipt again and saw the words "3 treasures" but I did not take much notice of the ingredients so I am not quite sure what those 3 items are though I could make a guess that they are salted egg yolk, waxed sausage and mushroom perhaps. I will order this again and take note of the 3 treasures.

Total bill for 2 pax is MYR 63.55 nett. They opened for business on 28 April 2018 (Saturday) so we were there on day 2. Business looks good with the seats fully occupied. Compared to the branches in One Utama and MyTown, this eatery is quite small and the seats are placed very near to each other making the place feels cramped.

Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert at Midvalley Mall is located where Rasa Utara used to be.

2nd day of opening with flowers.

As can be seen from the photo above, the dining area is quite small.

WG Ah Ma Kitchen

My lunch: Bubur Cha Cha MYR 5.50 nett and Bak Chang (粽子) MYR 6.90 nett. The Bubur Cha Cha has a lot of coconut milk in it and many cubes of yam and sweet potatoes so it was tasty as it was not too sweet. The Bak Chang has soft glutinous rice, salted egg yolk, a piece of fatty pork with a little bit of lean pork meat. It does not have that many ingredients in it but that is to be expected at this price. I will order this Bak Chang again.

The items that my friends ordered with nett prices which are affordable so that could explain the amount of people eating at this place as shown in the photo below.

Full house during lunch time at Ah Ma Kitchen, Jaya One.

GS Pulut Panggang

One of our regular eatery - Upeh at the Gardens Mall. Nasi Kerabu Hitam Ayam (Raw vege blue rice with chicken - blue from the butterfly pea flower) at MYR 23.10 nett. The beansprouts are totally raw and it goes well with the flavourful condiments on top of the rice. Ginger Honey Hot drink at MYR 6.25 nett.

Pulut Panggang (grilled glutinous rice with fillings) - MYR 3.20 nett for two pieces per serving. They reheated them and cut each in half for us. The glutinous rice is soft and the dried shrimps coconut flakes filling is sweet and salty at the same time. Very flavourful.

Total Bill for 2 pax is MYR 32.66 nett

Vege version

Glutinous rice with mushrooms, chestnuts and black-eyed beans/peas cooked by my mother. It is delicious! Can be considered a vegetarian meal since there are no meat, onions, and garlic in it.
