Pruning Plants

On Friday 27.sep.2024, went to nearby million ocean coffee shop for brunch. He walked to Tim won coffee shop to buy trotters wanton noodles dry for his mid day early dinner after he pruned some plants in the front yard.

9.45 am - he almost always order this chicken meat curry noodles MYR 10 nett and I finished off the remaining mihun horfun for him.

9.53 am - his ice coffee o kosong and my iced  cham total MYR 6 nett for both drinks. I ordered roast duck breast meat and two braised eggs MYR 14 nett that I shared with him.

10 am - I have MYR 1 in coins that I want to use up and only MYR 5 notes so I bought 2 packs of kuih at MYR 3 nett each. I feel that these kuihs have less glutinous rice and more misc flours so the taste is not the best.

Kakatoo Aeon Maluri

On Sunday 8.oct.2023, went to Aeon Maluri because the Elderlies requested for Hock Hua kwai lin kou.

10.29 am - his order Kakatoo nasi kerabu fried chicken MYR 15.9+ which he shared with me.

He saw this promo online and so decided to eat this dish instead of eating at 9 Kopitiam aeon Maluri. The usual price is around MYR 20 ish.

10.27 am - my order toast kaya butter single portion MYR 4.90+ which is acceptable and his hot small Cham drink MYR 4.90+ which is thick and tastes rich.

11.10 am - read that Kakatoo Nyonya Kampung Kopi O is a mix of Arabica, Robusta and Liberica beans so I ordered iced Kopi O to try and I forgot Kopi O has sugar so the Kopi O although has a nice coffee fragrance I can't get over the sweet taste. It would be better for me if it is Kopi O Kosong without sugar.

It also has these butterfly pea drinks which we didn't try.

10.58 am - my iced Kopi O and Pandan angku MYR 3.9+ for 2 angku in 1 pack which turned out to have coconut fillings so I bought red angku too as I wanted to taste their mung beans fillings.

11.02 am - both types of angku taste ok.

11.09 am - total price is MYR 44.45 nett.

11.10 am - Kakatoo Maluri eatery Aeon Maluri.

11.10 am - promos at Kakatoo.

He bought 6 hock hua kwai lin kou MYR 9 nett for 3 tubs and 2 tea eggs at MYR 1.8 nett each for the Elderlies. Then he bought two packs of chapfan no rice from 26 mixed rice eatery bandar Sri permaisuri on the way back for the Elderlies' lunch. Detour into Jalan Tasik utama 3, Medan Niaga Tasik Damai to look for alpro pharmacy which he remembered wrongly to be there.

4.19 pm - his chapfan no rice early dinner Fatty Mixed Rice Sri Petaling.

At around 4 pm, he went on his own to buy two chapfan no rice for the Elderlies from Fatty Mixed Rice Sri Petaling so that he won't have to drop me home.

I bought 2+1 free packs of pistachio 200g at MYR 44 nett per pack, 3 tubs of gwai lin kou at a total MYR 9 nett and 3 tea eggs at a total of MYR 4.8 nett from hock hua. Ate 2 slices of foc Massimo wheat germ from yesterday's Sunway p with one tea egg and the remaining gwai lin kou he kept for me at 1.30 pm to 2 pm.

Steam Brown Sugar Kuih

On Tuesday 12.apr.22, we went out to buy lunch for the Elderlies and ourselves.

At Swee Hing coffee shop, I saw these two packs of nyonya kuih in the tray of kuihs that are all sold out so I bought both at MYR 4.60 nett. One pack costs MYR 2.30 nett. They are made by Aroma Nyonya and distributed to many coffee shops to be sold.

The yellow blue seri muka kuih is as tasty as before. Each of us ate one piece. For the Ma Lai Go, we haven't eaten those made by Aroma Nyonya before so we are happy to find that we like them a lot so we will buy them again.

There are 4 pieces of this Ma Lai Go in the plastic container. It is very soft and fluffy. The dark brown sugar taste is extremely delicious.

Cross section - soft, fluffy and a bit on the oily side which we are ok with.

Food that we bought:

Now I can't wait to buy the ma Lai go aka steam Brown Sugar Kuih again.

Original Nyonya eatery

On Tuesday 5.apr.22, ordered 3 food deliveries for us & the elderlies' lunch and 1 pandamart delivery.

12.30 noon - nasi kunyit with curry chicken from Original Nyonya. We shared this meal for dinner. The yellow glutinous rice is soft and tastes good with the curry gravy.

11.06 am - All the food bought from Nyonya Original, pavilion Bukit Jalil.

1 pm - kuih koci at MYR 4 for 2 pieces in 1 container.

The skin is made from red glutinous rice.

The fillings are made from coconut and brown sugar. Tasty!

Food taste good.

8.30 am - his breakfast and the Elderlies' lunch so 3 packs in total.

Gardenia wholemeal bread for the Elderlies.

9.20 am - The discount is for the 1st two items. Promo code mart30 for a min buy of MYR 25 gives another 30% discount up to max of MYR 9 nett.

10.47 am - A&W - this discount is not as good as the previous shopeefood 3 pm to 5 pm discount of MYR 12.5 with free delivery but  I have used up all the shopeefood vouchers so this promo would have to do.

Coconut Kuih Bingka Ubi Kayu

On Sunday 13.mar.22, as per our routine, we went to Taman Desa to buy food.

1.40 pm - saw this kuih Bingka Ubi Kayu with a difference. It has a very thin layer of coconut aka ye zhar in between the layer of kuih. How many pieces of kuih are in this pack?

Oh, two pieces only. They are tasty and cost MYR 2.60 nett per pack.

12.04 pm - bought from the economy rice stall in Tuck Tuck Tei coffee shop for MYR 7 nett. No rice, soyknot+enoki, egg tofu, french beans, sweet potatoes leaves, napa cabbage and one hard boiled egg.

6 pm - our shared dinner. Both items are bought from two stalls in 95 kopitiam in desa Petaling. Signature braised meat rice at MYR 9.9 nett. It includes a piece of braised tofu and one braised egg, braised lean meat and a bit of salted vegetables aka ham choy.

The radish meat soup is from the steam soup stall. We ordered via Foodpanda app self pickup.

12.50 pm - two egg tarts from a small bakery shop near Sing Kee Kitchen coffee shop which is closed. I guess it is their rest day. This egg tart costs about MYR 2.75 each. The egg custard is very soft and wobbly.

Also bought:

1. Tuck Tuck Tei beef brisket broad wanton noodles at MYR 8.5 nett.

2. 2 siew Bao at MYR 2.75 and 1 Butter kaya puff at MYR 3.5

3. 3 cham ping at MYR 3.9 each from the Pak kopi food truck.

Also bought the above two dishes from Good Taste to be eaten the next day.

Radish meat soup with rice, fried egg and steamed salted chicken for the next day. After discount the total is MYR 19.42 which is lower than the cash payment price at MYR 20 for a walk in order. Just a little lower.

Kuih Ketayap

 After reading STP's article about Kuih ketayap with white coconut fillings, I bought a pack of Kuih ketayap only to find that the coconut fillings inside are brown which is usually the case here.

Kuihs from Aroma Nyonya bought from Swee Heng at MYR 2.20 per pack which is lower priced than kiosks in shopping malls selling exactly the same Aroma Nyonya kuihs at MYR 2.50 to MYR 2.80 per pack.

Seri muka Kuih and Getuk Ubi are my favourites so I will always buy them when I buy Kuih. So tasty! 😋

Nyonya Lab

My online friend since 2009 ordered these 30 pieces of kuihs in a special tiffin from Nyonyalab as a gift to me because she knows I like to eat kuihs 😋😋😋. Thank you so much Jennifer.

The kuihs are tasty with strong coconut taste and milk for bingka ubi and corn kuih; authentic red bean and glutinous dark rice in red bean kuih; authentic mung bean fillings in yellow angku and green pandan angku and genuine cassava/ubi kayu taste in tricolour sago ubi. The mochi has red bean fillings and the mochi skin is very QQ and translucent. I love to eat rose sago and this rose sago has a firmer texture than what I am used to eating and it is packed with sago. 8 types of kuih in total.

So for today, we have eaten 15 pieces and the remaining 15 pieces will be eaten over the next few days.

Useful and pretty tiffin. I will think of you, Jennifer when I use this tiffin carrier to buy food.

Lunch shared by two pax of beef balls noodles from Yang Kee, OUG at MYR 9 nett bought on Sunday.

Red bean kuih - not that sweet with nice red bean and coconut taste so is delicious!

This kuih is ubi kayu kuih with a bit of sago so I can taste the cassava aka tapioca aka ubi kayu in it.

 

Corn Red Bean Hak Lo Mai

Yellow or Pink? Can't decide so bought both Aroma Nyonya kuihs for MYR 2.20 nett each from Swee Heng coffee shop.

Perhaps they could sell them mixed like this.

Both taste equally nice - the corn kuih and the red bean dark glutinous rice kuih. I just couldn't get enough of kuih.

10.09 am - prawn noodles MYR 7 nett shared by two pax. Tasty enough and the broth doesn't have MSG because I drank it and didn't get thirsty. 2.30 pm - shared a pack of wanton noodles (dry) MYR 6.50 nett bought from the same neighborhood coffee shop.

5 pm - dinner - pork pepper soup Mee Hoon MYR 8 nett shared by 2 pax. A noodles-day again.

Angku Angku

Weekends are takeaway days so on Saturday 18 July 2020 d123, I went crazy again and bought too many angku kuih at MYR 1 nett each. My favourite angku kuih is from Aroma Nyonya at MYR 2.20 nett a pack with two angku kuihs inside but this time I decided to give this independent seller at a local coffee shop (at the other end of the block of shops where Sweet Heng is located) a try.

I ate one quarter of each type to test the taste. Can't make them stand on their own so they are all piled up leaning against each other. This angku is very much bigger than aroma nyonya's angku so the glutinous rice flour skin is thicker.

Colour and fillings:
1. Grey - sesame
2. Yellow - mung bean
3. Pink - red bean
4. White - savoury jicama
5. Red - Coconut
6. Red - Peanuts
7. Deep green - no fillings, this kuih is made from chu yap (a type of leaves)

After trying all the above, I still prefer Aroma Nyonya's angku because I don't  want to eat so much of the thick skins. All the fillings taste acceptable.

I bought ten for MYR 10 nett. Two of yellow, white and grey. Pink, red, red and deep green one each. Luckily my family helped me to finish them else I would be suffering trying to finish all of them. Serves me right for losing control and buying so many.
