Ocha and Matcha

We went to Nana's Green Tea at One Utama for our lunch one day and ordered a main meal that comes with a drink (MYR18.80++) each from their set menu.

Beef patty (you can opt for chicken patty) with rice, salad, shredded daikon (white radish) and miso soup. This set meal comes with a drink of your choice. The rice is quite firm so if you prefer soft rice, it is advisable to order another main dish without rice.

Salmon Rice with Miso Soup

Curry chicken Udon

Hot pot of ocha tea - very fragrant

\
Light Matcha Tea (Hot) - if you want a hot drink, I think hot ocha tea is better than hot matcha tea because ocha tea is more fragrant. Matcha tea is made from green tea powder.

Soursop

I saw this small soursop in the supermarket selling for MYR6 something and it was soft so I assumed that it was ripe enough to be eaten immediately so I bought it.

When I reached home, I wanted to eat it immediately but I like eating it cold so I put it into the freezer for about half an hour. It was not frozen, just cold enough for me to enjoy it. Sour with a tinge of sweetness - very refreshing. I will buy more if I can find ripe ones.

Could not resist

When my spouse sees this dish - Chinese Style Minced Pork Patty, he will select it.

When I see this dish - Chinese Style Pork "Chop", I will select it.

These two plates of "mixed" rice cost MYR12 in total.

I like eating the Chee Cheong Fun here so although I am eating "mixed" rice, I took a little rice and ordered a plate of ccf "kosong" (with nothing added to it) - MYR1.60 - to eat with my "mixed" rice and the combination tastes delicious to me.

This is the corner shop - Friendship Cafe (not really a true cafe but just a normal Chinese Coffee Shop) at Taman Esplanad, Bukit Jalil.

Snack for lunch

It is time for a mandatory work lunch and majority rules so everyone made their way to Old Town White Coffee. The previous time I was there, I had their set lunch which gives the best value for money and I know that but this time I did not want to have the drink that was included in all the meals in the set lunch menu so I opted for an expensive snack instead from their ala carte menu.

Chicken nuggets - MYR5.80 plus 10% service charge giving a grand total of MYR6.40 which means MYR1.28 for one small piece of nugget. So not worth it.

Is this reconstituted chicken meat or is it not?

I am really at a loss as to what to order should there be another mandatory work lunch there.

Big, Average, Tiny

Small piece of fish - MYR3, Stirfry Spinach MYR2, Stirfry Egg with Cekur/Cangkuk Manis (Scientific Name: Sauropus androgynus) MYR2, Rice (Small Portion) MYR0.60 so total is MYR7.60 at a nearby eatery with air-conditioning.

This big poster is on the wall of the eatery: "Eat a big breakfast, average lunch and a tiny dinner" and "One must eat to live, not live to eat".

This "chap fan" place have health colour coded name tags for each of the dish with the price for one serving of the dish so the customer will not get a shock at the cashier. Red means normal dishes, yellow means semi-healthy dishes, and green means healthy dishes. I noticed that all the vegetable dishes have green name tags. Deep fried meat dishes have red name tags. I am not sure what dishes get yellow name tags. Good to have such information to help us decide what to eat.

Order wrongly

There was no place to park near where we planned to eat so we ended up here (Sweet Bean, Sri Petaling) for dinner again.

Egg fried rice with chicken - MYR14.90 - Not too bad. I just ate one quarter of this meal as my dinner and my spouse finished it.

I wanted to have the peanut sweet paste but I placed the wrong order so I have to accept the Sesame paste and black glutinous rice dessert combo - MYR4.2 - tasted quite good.

Q is for ?

On the top floor of Midvalley Megamall, I noticed a long queue so I checked it out but I did not join the queue.

Just look at the queue. What shop is this? Magnum Kuala Lumpur: the Ice Cream not the Lottery Numbers.

Queuing round the curved counter

There is an upper level, there is also a long queue.

Long queue at the upper level.

The upper level is more for dining in for savoury food and ice cream.

Can they really customise the Magnum Ice Cream into these?

Or these?

Crab Factory

I read about a new place in PJ that serves Southern American cuisine of Creole and Cajun cooking, where the seafood is placed directly on the table without any plates and you eat with your hands so I dropped by one evening during Happy Hour Specials (3 to 5.30 pm, Mon, Wed, Thu) to try the combos.

Normally (outside this Happy Hour), the way to order is to choose:
1. your seafood (market prices apply by weight)
2. your sauce - 4 types of sauce are available.
3. food to be cooked together with the seafood such as potatoes, corns, mushrooms, chicken sausages.

There are side orders on the menu too if you fancy eating some fried chicken wings or fried baby squids while waiting for your seafood. More details at www dot crabfactory dot com dot my.

Yabbies and Prawns combo - MYR42 - with spicy Jamba Jamba sauce (tomato base).  We requested for the spiciness level to be mild but still it was very hot and spicy for us. Each combo includes a chicken sausage, corn and potato.

Mussels and Prawns combo - MYR35 - with Lemon sauce.

Gumbo - Southern Heartwarming Soup - MYR12.90

The seafood are cooked and served in bags. That cup in front is the Gumbo.

Nice decoration with long wooden tables for you to spread out your seafood.

Daily prices shown on the boards

Shopfront, very unassuming, does not reflect the ambiance of its interior.

Opposite Curry

When ordering curry noodles from stalls in old style coffee shops, it is better to look at the bowls of other patrons who are eating from the same stall to see what the curry noodle will look like because the curry noodles differ quite a lot from one stall to another stall as shown by the photos below.

Curry Noodle - MYR5.5 - from a stall in New Lucky coffee shop, Sri Petaling. It has red curry oil and is quite oily and not rich in coconut milk but has quite a substantial amount of chicken meat.

Curry noodle - MYR5.5 - from a stall in Swee Hing Coffee Shop, Sri Petaling. It is creamy with coconut milk with many pieces of deep fried bean curd puffs. I am not really particular about curry noodles so both are fine for me.

Uncle Tetsu

Finally bought one for MYR19.90 just to satisfy my curiosity after reading about it.

Only Takeaways, no dine-in available. A plastic knife is provided.

I found a seat for public in this shopping mall and sat down to cut and eat the cake. Ate a quarter at one go -- oops! It is so soft that eating it is like eating nothing. More eggy taste than cheese taste. Shared it with my family and they say that they prefer Uncle Miki's cheesecake. This article compares the two: Uncle Tetsu vs Uncle Miki, have a read if you are interested.

Apart from cheesecake, they sell two other products: cheese zuccotto and cheesecake sticks. Even though there is no queue now but the cheese cakes are not available on the spot. I need to pay first and write down my name and then the staff will tell me what time I need to come back to collect the cheese cake. It is not a long wait, about 5 to 15 minutes depending on how many names are on the list.

Ishikari Nabe

Ishikari Nabe - MYR15.80 - Deep Fried Salmon and vegetables in Miso Broth

I will always eat Tamago Sushi - MYR1.80 per plate because I like to eat eggs.

I will also order these at Sushi Zanmai everytime as they are my favourite - Avocado sushi (MYR2.80 for two), Aburi Salmon Sushi (MYR4.80 for two), Salmon Belly Sushi (MYR4.80 for two).

Gyuniku Signature

Beef meat balls Hor Fun Soup - MYR10.50

Beef mix Hor Fun Soup came in a set with a starter, a drink and a dessert - around MYR16

Cashier Counter

Quite a small eatery on the ground floor of Central Market, KL.

Exterior

It serves Cendol too as can be seen from its banner.

There is a bigger outlet in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. Apart from beef noodles, they do serve other dishes with chicken meat. Nett prices are shown on the menu.

Buy 1 Get 1 Free

I saw this offer a few days ago and planned to buy the fish fillet burger because when I was young I liked eating it. So today, I bought 2 fish fillet burgers for MYR6.45 after 6% govt. tax. Just for comparison, the lunch value set for a regular drink, fries and 1 fish fillet burger costs MYR7.95 but I don't want the soft drink and fries so this offer is just nice for me. This promotion starts today and will go on until 30 November from 11am to 4am.

I think it has been a few years that I have not eaten this burger. Luckily they did not put too much tartar sauce. I ate one for lunch and the other one just before I went to take the train home. Somehow it just did not taste as good as I remember it.

I added in a slice of wholemeal bread because I find the burger too flavourful so I need to balance it with a slice of wholemeal bread.
