Another Trotter

We ended at Pat Kin Pat Sun, Sri Petaling on another occasion due to having parked nearby again and also ordered another dish - Vinegar Pork Trotter - from the August promotion menu which gives 30% off so from MYR14.60 nett we only pay MYR10.20 nett. It did not come with rice so we had to order a bowl of rice (ala carte) at MYR2.10 nett.

The gravy of this vinegar pork trotter is thick and tastes sweeter than sourish. I think it is made from some type of dark thick caramel soy sauce with a little vinegar added to it. There is one hard boiled egg too.

The other item we ordered from the same August promotion menu is this "Sampan" (small fishing boat) porridge at MYR6.90 nett which we only paid MYR4.80 nett after the 30% discount. Total price is MYR17.10 nett for two persons. Good enough meals although we would prefer to eat at Tea Garden.

Trotting Mee

A wanton mee stall at Swee Hing offers its customers many choices of different type of ingredients to go with the noodles. One of them is this pork trotter cooked with ginger slices which is only available on certain days of the week. It is very flavourful, tasty for those who love to eat the soft yet chewy and springy thick pork skin. The whole meal above costs MYR7 nett only.

Farmers Street

When we were at Jaya shopping center, PJ, we noticed that the Heritage Village eatery has been renamed to Farmers Street. The items in the menu look more or less the same.

The name is now Farmers Street. The layout of the eatery looks the same as before.

Swee Hing

This is a popular old style coffee shop in Sri Petaling near New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice. It occupies two shop units and has fully occupied tables most of the time that we were there. The reason that it is so popular is because it used to be located in OUG and has loyal customers living in OUG patronising it so when it moved to its current location in Sri Petaling, its customers drive all the way from OUG to Sri Petaling just to eat here.

One of the stalls in this coffee shop sells Chinese style pastries such as this egg tart at MYR1.70 nett.
The taste is on par with the egg tarts from TK which is a bit more expensive.

Soup Restaurant at Jaya

Soup Restaurant at Jaya. We have been to the one at One Utama in 2014. We were attracted to the lunch deal as advertised by the banner so we decided to eat lunch there.

The first item to be served. Braised peanuts at MYR3.20 + 10% service charge making it MYR3.52 nett. As we did not order this, we could asked for it to be taken back to the kitchen but we did not as we were hungry and wanted some titbits to eat while waiting for our food.

A glass of hot chinese tea, a small bowl of vegetables and a bowl of corn pork soup that came with the lunch deal.

Beggar Bowl Rice with minced pork lunch set - MYR17.80+ (MYR19.60 nett). The minced pork patty was not flavourful enough according to my eating companion.

I ordered this Beggar Bowl Rice with Chicken and Mushrooms (ala carte) at MYR10.50+ (MYR11.55 nett). The small bowl of vegetables came with the minced pork set and is in this photo for size comparison. The saucer of dark sweet caramel soy sauce is for the mushroom chicken rice. I did not request for it to be served separately so I was pleased that they did it this way and did not drench my rice with the sweet sauce.

Although the beggar bowl is shallow but there is still too much rice for me so I have to give some of my rice to my friend. The boneless chicken pieces taste slightly salty.

The chinese word for soup.

Nice paintings adorned the wall.

If you did not use the packets of towels provided, you could tell the cashier and have the cost of the towels (MYR1.05+ which is MYR1.15 nett each) removed from your bill. Our total bill for two came up to MYR36.95 nett.

Herbal Spring Village Chicken

We went to Tea Garden, Sri Petaling again for our meal. This time, we ordered the Baked Herbal Spring Kampung (Village) Chicken (half a chicken) with Rice at MYR17.20 nett to share between the two of us.

Closed up photo of the baked chicken. We could taste the herb - Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis) in this chicken dish. The chicken was infused with the taste of herbs so it was tasty.

We also ordered a bowl of Red Bean Sweet Soup (Tong Sui) with Glutinous Rice Balls (5) filled with sesame to share at MYR5.80 nett. It was only slightly sweet which I like.

Uncle Tetsu Cheese Tart

After the Tokyo Secret cheese tart in IPC, I bought a cheese tart from Uncle Tetsu, One Utama to try.

Just one cheese tart to test - MYR4.50 nett.

It is a bit smaller than the Tokyo Secret cheese tart and it feels lighter too.

Side view.

I share this tart with my friend who bakes. The crust tastes like butter cookies that we get during Chinese New Year and the taste of the cheese fillings is not as rich as the fillings of the Tokyo Secret cheese tart. If you are not that particular about your cheese tarts, then I guess this one will do but if you are searching for the ultimate cheese tart then you will need to try the ones from Tokyo Secret and the coming-soon Pablo to make your decision.

Pat Kin Pat Sun at Sri Petaling

We intended to eat at Tea Garden Sri Petaling but we couldn't find a parking space nearby so in the end, we just ate at Pat Kin Pat Sun eatery at Sri Petaling which is nearer to our parked car. This Pat Kin Pat Sun eatery is located below Krathong Thai Sri Petaling and behind the Grand Shanghai Banquet Restaurant.

We order this dish - stirfried beancurd and roasted pork with rice - from the Aug promotion menu with 30% off its normal price (MYR14.60) so we only need to pay MYR10.20 nett.

The other dish we order is a bowl of Curry Noodle with Pork Skin at MYR6.50 nett from their special menu. Both dishes are acceptable, good enough to fill our stomachs.

Value meal

After our previous Japanese set lunch at Hokkaido Ichiba, Gardens Mall, we went back to Kura Japanese Restaurant at One World Hotel for their set lunch. The above sashimi set lunch costs MYR33 nett which is the same price as the set lunch at Hokkaido Ichiba, Gardens Mall.

This Salmon Shioyaki (Grilled Salmon with Salt) set lunch costs MYR33 nett. In 2014, this set used to cost MYR23++ which comes up to MYR26.70 nett so the price increment over two years is MYR6.30 which is quite all right since it includes the GST as well.

A piece of grilled shioyaki (lightly salted) salmon alone (ala carte) at Hokkaido Sushi, One Utama costs around MYR22.80 and this set is only MYR30 nett so this is a value for money meal.

Red Lobster at Midvalley

I took a walk around Midvalley Mall one day and was pleasantly surprised to see Red Lobster has an outlet here. Let's see when I can go and eat there. Very good, no need for me to travel far for lobsters.

Other dishes

Other than the roast chicken (half), we also ordered the following two dishes for 4 persons.

Tofu (beancurd) and toukan (wheat gluten 麵筋) with mustard leaves (gai choy), button mushrooms and carrots for MYR18 nett.

Very crunchy lettuce lightly stir fried with garlic - MYR15 nett. With 3 plates of rice at MYR1.50 nett each and a pot of tea, this meal for four persons came up to MYR90 nett. Not the best price but the food taste good so will only come here for special occasion that calls for a typical meal with an air conditioned area.

Garnishing

This plate of roast chicken (half a chicken) costs MYR43 nett at Teak Kee, a no-frills typical eatery with air-conditioning. I think the price is high but am not sure why it is so but the chicken is tasty so no complaints there. The thing is, will you eat the garnishing on the plate - the slices of raw cucumber, tomatoes and some leaves of raw lettuce?

New Roast Place

Curry Noodle with 3 types of roasted meat: char siew (BBQ pork), siew yuk (roast pork) and roast duck for MYR7 nett. Looks kind of messy. I did not eat this so I do not know how the taste is like.

Wanton noodle with Char Siew (BBQ pork) for MYR6.50 nett. Taste is acceptable.

A new eatery in Sri Petaling - Pakkopi Kaw that sells noodles and roast meat. This shop is located on the same row of shops as Tanjung Tua Lang Fish Head Restaurant

I won't want to visit this shop again because our order was taken by a well-dressed impatient elderly man with a grumpy and grouchy expression on his face. When we asked him questions, he answered us curtly with a scowl on his face. We suspect that he may be the owner or is related to the owner. You may visit this eatery if you are curious about this person. He seems to be one who always take the order from customers.

Add Fish

We noticed the table next to us has additional fried fish slices in their fish head noodle so we enquired about it and was told that we could add the fish for an additional MYR5 to the MYR17 for a small portion of fish head noodle so we did just that at this Soon Lei eatery.

The deep fried fish slices are different from the fish used in the fish head noodle. We think that they are from dory fish and are a bit salty so we don't think we will add them again next time although they taste quite ok otherwise.

Dry Red Curry Noodle

We went to eat at Green Curry Restaurant again and ordered our usual Nasi Lemak (Coconut Milk Rice) with Pork Green Curry set which comes with a drink. From MYR9.90 nett in 2015, its price has increased to MYR10.90 nett for that set.

Then we ordered another dish from the ala carte menu for MYR8.50 nett - Red Pork Curry Noodle (Dry). The red curry has lemon grass in it which tastes very good. The thick noodle is very springy and I had to chew it for quite a bit before swallowing and is mixed with dark sweet soy sauce and sesame oil. The lightly blanched cabbage goes well with the curry to tone down the flavours of the curry and noodle soy sauce with sesame oil seasoning.

Salted Egg Yolk Pastry (Ham Dan So, 鹹蛋酥, 咸蛋酥)

MYR1.90 nett for one. I bought this pastry from a stall in a local neighbourhood coffee shop.

The crust looks thick but it is not as can be seen below.

After it has been cut, I can clearly see that the crust is not thick at all. There is a huge amount of lotus paste fillings and one salted egg yolk in it. It tastes and looks better than the one I bought from Esquire Kitchen which is so much more expensive at MYR3.80 nett each. The one I bought from Penang has thicker crust.

Another look at its fillings. I ate half and gave the other half to my spouse.
