suchan - used to be located in PJ. Just moved to 20, Jalan Perisa 1, Happy Garden, Off Kuchai Lama, 58200 KL in March this year (2015). Not sure whether it is still operated by the same owner or not. For many years I have wanted to visit it but due to its location in PJ, I did not. So now that it is near my neighbourhood, I dropped by for a bite and found that the food is a bit too pricey for this location.
RM9 for coffee is expensive
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteMy eyes are feasting on the Thai laksa. Its been a long, long time since I last tasted Thai laksa and I really miss it.
ReplyDeleteI don't see this laksa in Thai restaurant so I wonder how authentic is it.
Deletehow was the thai laksa? looks flavourful! expect nothing less when it is RM15 for a bowl.
ReplyDeleteFlavourful and not salty at all. Full of shredded fish meat.
DeleteThe laksa must be tasty. Once a while indulge in such luxury is fine. Not everyday.
ReplyDeleteWhy not?
DeleteThai laksa? Looks like Penang laksa to me. Broth looks nice and thick. RM15 is ok - I see prawns in it! Value for money when they have a lot of these not-cheap ingredients.
ReplyDeleteLooks like that to me too.
DeleteWah, that laksa soup looks so thick and full of fish.. Looks like asam laksa.. Thai laksa got santan one right..
ReplyDeleteYes the broth is thick and full of fish.
DeleteI've heard a lot about the nice cakes they have, but you seemed to be not quite happy with the chocolate moist cake huh?? maybe it was quite "aged" in the fridge, haha!!! :D
ReplyDeleteYou may be right about its age!
DeleteIs it supposed to be famous when it was in PJ? I have never heard of suchan to be honest...
ReplyDeleteAnd what the heck is Thai laksa? I don't think there is any Thai dish that is called laksa @.@
Yes it is famous for its cakes. Have to check the origins of the laksa word.
DeleteI always ate at the old Suchan near University Hospital and had no idea they had shifted to this new location. Yes the menu is pricey but they have regular crowds and cake orders which are ceiling priced. There are lots of customers who would pay any price for the best and this Suchan has plenty of regulars like those Datins who adorned her walls of photos. I didn;t know its owner Sue Chan is my sister's good friend until I saw her walking into my sister's wedding dinner in Penang years ago!
ReplyDeleteAre you aware that Alexis gets their supply from Suchan?
I am not aware of Alexis getting cakes from suchan. You must go to the new place then for old times sake.
DeleteI can see why your chocolate cake was not moist....it looks like it was the only cake sitting in the cake fridge! Based on the comment above, if Alexis gets their cakes from Suchan, their cakes should be alright.
ReplyDeleteThe choc cake was chocolaty enough but too dry.
DeleteOh, moved already! I have been meaning to try their cakes because Suchan is famous for her cakes. Too bad the chocolate cake was dry. I find that most chocolate cakes I have had so far from restaurants tend to be dry.
ReplyDeleteCome try here?
DeleteWow.. I thought Uncle Lim laksa is pricey.. but then the quality is what counts... ! Salivating for the bowl of Thai laksa!
ReplyDeleteHow much is u. Lim laksa?
DeleteYa loh, how come move so far away! I didn't know they do savoury food too. That Thai laksa looks good.
ReplyDeleteYou know about suchan too?
DeleteFor their cakes, yes. I was living in PJ at one time so this wasn't far away.
DeleteDid you eat there before?
DeleteLaksa looks good, such a big bowl also!
ReplyDeleteNot really that big.
DeleteThe prices seemed high for M'sians. MYR12 for a slice of cake? Wow!
ReplyDeleteNow prices are all high now here.
Deleteuh... the cake looks good, .... that's so bad it wasn't moist...
ReplyDeleteYour cakes are way better!
DeleteI think this place is famous for their cakes, right.
ReplyDeleteNowadays cake is not cheap. One slice can easily price at RM10 above.
You are right on both counts. They are famous for their cakes and cakes are expensive nowadays.
DeleteI wonder how long this outlet can sustain with bad economy these days...It has been years since I last enjoyed a piece of cake and hot chocolate at such fancy place.
ReplyDeleteThis place is not that fancy but the price is high.
