Pineapple Balls

On Thursday 7.1.21, I received this red paper bag with two containers of pineapple pastries.

Looks good. They are a treat from my brother. He bought them at MYR 38 per tub, 2 for MYR 70 Nett.

A view of the label on top of the cover.

Size comparison with a standard size teaspoon.

Overturn it. I gave one tub to my mother and they have eaten all the pineapple balls in that tub. I still have half a tub remaining in my fridge at this point in time of wed 3.1.21 which is 9 days away from CNY. Mco has been extended to 18.2.21 so everyone please celebrate CNY 12.2.21 online and stay safe at home!

The selling point of this pastry is the genuine fibrous pineapple jam fillings. The pastry is soft and taste very milky.

For this batch, the pastry is a bit too moist so it stuck to the paper. Feedback to seller and seller offers replacement but as they are fine to be eaten, we say there is no need for replacement.

The seller sent us the above photo to say that normal batches look like the above. Not overly moist.

From seller insta, the butter Tillamook is used.

  1. They're HUGE!!!

We have nice ones from a bakery here, nuggets shaped...but they're getting smaller and more expensive every year. So popular that come Chinese New Year, they would stop making everything else and fill the whole shop with these. Dunno this year, not bothered going there to see - staying home, not going out.

    1. Is that bakery within 10 km of your place? Not huge because smaller than a teaspoon scoop.

    2. Yes, just round the corner. I think when I drove past that day, I saw that they will not let you in. They set up a counter blocking the entrance so you queue up and when your turn comes, you tell them what you want to buy and they get for you. A number of shops here are doing this - I think that is a good idea.

    3. Yes, that is a very good idea. I wouldn't want to go into their shop too which is an enclosed area with less air circulation.

  4. A bit of a letdown to have them stuck to the paper.

I was all set to make pineapple jam balls. Bought the pineapples, made the jam, planned to make the balls the following or next weekendo. Then MCO happened and I can't travel home to finish making them.

    1. I think you have too high expectations in almost all aspects of your life. 🤣😂Relax, just pineapple balls, no need to feel disappointed.
Pineapple Jams can be kept for a long time. Still got time for u to go back to your main house to make pineapple ball pastries. U got a strategy right? To use different bills to meet the 10 km requirement.

    2. Hahhaa.... getting fussier as I grow older!

Ya decided to make the balls this weekend at my parents' place. Coz hubby mistakenly brought the jam over thinking it was something ready to eat.

    3. Oh, really? Will get fussier when grow older.

Hahahaha, must be you keep thinking about your pineapple jam until the universe sends brain waves into your hubby's head and confuses him to bring it over so that you can make pineapple balls pastries at your parents' place.

  5. I have finished half of my tub of pineapple tarts too.. ordered from my friend, around 30 costing RM28. I need to put in the fridge too, she said no preservatives so can go bad faster than the normal ones...

    1. No preservative is good. They are just as tasty when put in fridge. Less than MYR 1 per tart is a good price.

  6. I think these pineapple tarts though delicious, are a bit too rich for me.

    1. If u buy those not made from pure butter, then they will not be too rich for you.

  8. The pineapple filling appears quite generous. I used to associate pineapple tarts with CNY when I was small. You are right. Best to just stay at home. I won't be joining any family gatherings.

    1. Cos during CNY then people are willing to pay to eat pineapple tarts since pineapple is ong Lai which means wealth comes. Some people I am sure will secretly do reunion meals with families from other households if they live within 10 km from each other. After cny, we will see if cases can go over 6k.

  10. Your pineapple balls looked delicious!

2 months ago, I went for a brunch with 10 ladies. One wealthy lady brought out her pineapple balls for us to try. She wanted to sell them in exclusive CNY box packaging to all the bankers and tai-tais she knew. We ate them and had to drink Chinese tea to swallow it. Wakakakaka
