Creole Duck Pithivier

Thursday 18.2.21 is CNY Day 7 which is yan yat aka ren ri aka everyone's birthday. Lou Sang or eat Yee sang is a popular activity on this day. For this CNY, we have decided to skip lou sang. Have you lou sang for this CNY? If no, are you going to lou sang before CNY Day 15?

Yesterday, 17.2.21 Wednesday, we went to Lucky Alley and Choy Kee coffee shop to buy takeaway food. Both shops have many people dining in with two to a table and prices have gone up by MYR 0.50 Nett.

Creole Duck Pithivier cross section. The puff pastry is buttery and crispy. The duck meat fillings are very flavourful.

According to wiki and I quote below:

"Louisiana Creole cuisine (French: Cuisine créole, Spanish: Cocina criolla) is a style of cooking originating in Louisiana, United States, which blends West African, French, Spanish, Amerindian influences, as well as influences from the general cuisine of the Southern United States."

According to definitions dot com and I quote:

"A Pithivier is a round, enclosed pie usually made by baking two disks of puff pastry, with filling stuffed in between. The term is sometimes used incorrectly on English menus to mean 'pie', especially in upscale restaurants. It is commonly assumed that the dish originates from the town of Pithiviers, France."

Compare the size of the duck pithivier with a standard size table spoon.

It was delivered warm and all wrapped up using aluminium foil.

The chef sent me this photo when he was making them.

Need to order in advance.

Two other meals I ordered are Crab Cakes and Creole Jambalaya rice.

The two stacked up crab cakes are nicely charred. He detected butter taste in the crab cakes and refused to eat so I gave one away.

The creole jambalaya rice.

The flavourful rice after I have kept half of the rice

  1. That is HUGE!!! I sure would love to try, and the crab cakes too! I don't mind any butter taste. No, no lou sang for us - I don't think it is in our Foochow culture even though there are some people into it here.
