横财就手

Monday 15.2.21 is CNY Day 4 and we plan to stay home the whole day. Today is also the final day for the plant based meals delivery.

Yesterday was Sunday 14.2.21 but we didn't celebrate Valentine's day. Heated up the frozen braised pork knuckle in superior sauce MYR 43.20 bought from eu yan sang and gave some away to two friends.

Added some coriander leaves to it. During CNY, this dish is given the auspicious name of "横财就手" in simplified chinese characters.

橫財就手 in traditional chinese characters. Pronunciation: "waang4 coi4 zau6 sau2" in Cantonese. "hèng cái jiù shǒu" in Mandarin. Say this phrase to wish someone will get a great windfall as 横财 means windfall usually in gambling as 横 means horizontal 财 means wealth so horizontal wealth means wealth from other non-main activities. 就is a preposition meaning on. 手 is hand. So 横财就手 literally means horizontal wealth on hand.

12 noon - He cut out this portion.

Added another piece for his lunch. I just ate a bit of the skin and a bit of meat to taste it.

After removing the meat for friends, here is the bone.

11 am. Meal A: chap Chye Curry aka mixed vege curry with cekur manis aka Kau kei vege, brown rice and assorted vege in curry: Broccoli, cauliflower, okra, baby corn, brinjals, cabbage, onion, carrots, taopok aka beancurd puff.

Meal B: Peppers Tofu Umani with basmati rice, choy sum, stirfry of assorted mushrooms, red yellow green capsicum in peppercorn dao ban juan sauce with slices of tofu sprinkled with sesame seeds. Both vege meals are cooked in chinese style using garlic, sesame, and other seasonings usually used in chinese cuisine.

Went out at 8.40 ish to buy takeaway breakfast so drop by the newly opened family mart which is 20 mins walk from my place to get a pineapple cone for my breakfast. Ate it in the car. Yummy!

8.54 am - roaring business for this coffee shop. Full house. Two pax to a table and all tables are occupied. Many old folks enjoying their coffee and kaya butter toasts. Guess they are all having cabin fever to rush out to have breakfast once it is allowed to do so.

I bought takeaway Hainan Coffee Hot at MYR 3 Nett.
And the usual pork stomach pepper soup Mee hoon at MYR 8.50 Nett. Used to be MYR 8 nett so price went up. It is expected since this is on CNY Day 3. So that was yesterday's food trail.

  1. I passed a kopitiam in kinrara...also same situation. All tables occupied and teribble air ventilation despite open air. Most of the patrons are elderly 'uncles' who prefer lepak at such place for a cuppa.

  2. Oooooo...the pork knuckle looks gorgeous!!! We did not have that - I sure would love it a lot!!! CMCO starts today - they are not extending the MCO even though the daily numbers are still high. Guess some people need to get back to work to earn a living, a bit, at least. Whatever it is, we're not going out, just stay home - still eating the leftovers from the Reunion Dinner.

  3. So you walked to the newly open family mart to buy ice cream?

It is still safer to stay at home with the number being so high.

    1. You didn't cook because two persons difficult to eat pork knuckle, have to eat it for many days so have to share with friends to clear it in one day.

    1. Thanks. Yes, better to eat all on that day itself instead of keep on keeping it and having to eat it day by day but if no choice, cannot eat all, then no choice la.

  7. I will admit some of those plant-based meals do look pretty good.

Now you can enjoy Familymart more often! I had the sundae version of that pineapple sofuto, which came with a big tart biscuit at the bottom. Not bad.

    1. Yes the plant based meals really give a variety of vegetables so u just need to buy roast meat from other places to add to it.

The tart version has too much crusts for me. Like a very big cookie. 😂
