Ji Wo Bao

On Tuesday 2.Aug.2022, went out to 126 mixed rice Sri Petaling to buy lunch for the Elderlies and ourselves. I went to two shops in the same row of shops to get food too.

*** Clan Restaurant Sri Petaling ***

10.58 am - this eatery in Sri Petaling sells dim sum and is famous for its Ji Wo Bao aka Kai Wo Bao aka 鸡窝包 aka 雞窩包 which basically is lo Mai kai wrapped in a bao. Somewhere at the back of my mind, I somehow think that I have eaten something similar but I couldn't find it here after searching key words such as Kai, bao or wo.

Can you spot the Ji Wo Bao in the photo above?

I bought one Ji Wo Bao MYR 7 which they wrapped in a plastic sheet before putting it into a box and a red bean bao at MYR 2.20 for our dinner, to be shared.

*** His 126 chapfan ***

He bought 3 packs of chapfan MYR 24.90 from 126 mixed rice - 2 for the Elderlies and 1 for himself. His chapfan as in the above photo has rice, broccoli, taopok curry and a special dish that we seldom see in small chapfan eateries which is slices of pork livers stir fried with slices of onions. My mother used to cook this liver onion dish for us when we were young. I ate one mouthful of each item in this chapfan. The liver tastes good.

*** Pizza Pickup ***

11.19 am - my MYR 4 off voucher in Foodpanda is going to expire soon so I used it to buy a personal pizza 6 inch from US Pizza which is in the same row of shops as 126 mixed rice shop so that we just need to make one stop and park once. I am eating one quarter each day as fillings with wholemeal bread because pizza are too flavourful for me on their own. To my surprise, the crust is fluffy instead of chewy which is also nice.

I select Garlic Cheese Crust by topping up MYR 2 to the initial price.

Total price is MYR 11.16 after all deductions which is within my lunch budget of MYR 15 nett.

  1. i blogged about that ji wo bao some 11 years ago...LOL! I managed to find mine here: https://utopiastaging.blogspot.com/2011/10/glutinous-rice-stuffed-bun.html
Looking back, seems like the packaging box never change....it is still the same design.

  2. This Ji Wo Bao sounds interesting. I have never seen glutinous rice wrapped with bao. That is a lot of carbs. LOL!

    1. Luckily it wasn't big so the double carb of glutinous rice and bao skin should be equivalent to one big bowl of white rice maybe.

    1. I think if you are already eating at a dim sum place and they have this item in their menu, then no harm trying, right? The glutinous rice has wine taste and salted egg yolk in it so it is tasty but on the sweet side.

    2. No harm lah. For me no temptation to take this even though have seen it around for quite some time. I'd rather have a pau AND a LMK tqvm.

    3. I guess it depends on the taste of the Ji Wo Bao. For this Ji Wo Bao, the glutinous rice inside has salted egg yolk and yellow wine so the taste is different fr normal lo Mai kai.
