Frozen Tong Por Rou

This is his lunch on the previous Saturday 6.mar.21 - he steamed the frozen pork belly bought from Eu  Yan Sang on Tuesday 26.jan.21 and blanched some iceberg vegetables.

This pork belly has just two layers - skin, pork fats and pork meat. This pack also includes a piece of pork ribs. There are also many pieces of Dang Shen in the gravy which I ate. Codonopsis pilosula (also known as poor man's ginseng - 党参 : dǎngshēn).

Cut out a piece to eat. Why only two layers? I thought pork belly has many alternate layers of pork fat, pork meat, pork fat, pork meat, pork fat, pork meat and so on and so forth. I just ate a bit of skin and some lean meat. It took him 3 meals in 3 days to finish this big slab of herbal pork belly. The herbal taste from the dang shen is nice. I help him to wipe up the gravy with bread to finish the herbal gravy to the last drop.

One pack Braised pork belly with herbs at MYR 38.70 Nett from Zun Kitchen Eu Yan Sang.

  1. They sell that at Eu Yan Sang? I always thought they only sell Chinese medicine, herbs, health tonics and what not, hampers for old people's birthdays. Gotta stop by one of these days to have a look!

  4. The many-layer part of the belly is a sought-after part. Not the whole belly is like that.

The EYS version does look very good.
