Mango Deluxe

Yesterday (Sunday), the 4 of us went to Snowflake, Midvalley Mall again after our trip there the previous Sunday where we ate the Mango Snowfetti because we wanted to try the Mango Deluxe this round.

We ordered 3 items :
1. The "Hot Bestseller" at MYR 11.30+ (MYR 12 nett after adding 6% SST). It has hot Grass Jelly which has almost solidified to be wobbly, Yam and Sweet Potatoes Taro Balls, Peanuts and Tapioca Pearls and is similar to the "Cold Bestseller" we had in 2016 except that this hot version does not have any ice at all.

2. Mango Deluxe at MYR 19.90+ (MYR 21.10 nett). It has 2 scoops of Mango Sorbet, 1 scoop of Soya Sorbet, Mango Puree, Ai Yu Jelly, Mango Cubes, Sweet Potatoes and Yam Taro Balls, and Tapioca Pearls.

The main difference between Mango Snowfetti (MYR 29.90 nett) and Mango Deluxe (MYR 21.10 nett) other than the price:
a) Mango Deluxe has plain ice shavings with syrup that tastes like Sugar Cane Syrup. I did not like this combination because the taste of Mango clashes with the taste of Sugar Cane Syrup. Perhaps customers can request for the syrup to be omitted.
b) Mango Snowfetti has ice shavings made from mango juice/puree without added syrup so it totally feels like eating iced mangoes. I prefer this mango ice shavings than mango sorbet so Mango Snowfetti wins.

3. Uji'Ryo Supreme at MYR 18.70+ (MYR 19.80 nett) and add on a portion of Matcha Balls (10 pieces) at MYR 4.30+ (MYR 4.55 nett) because I like the "green" taste of Matcha Balls and this dessert does not include them. It has 2 scoops of Matcha Sorbet which I like very much because it does not taste sweet, 1 scoop of Hojicha (roasted green tea) Sorbet which has a nice fragrant roasted tea taste, Sweet Potatoes Balls, Matcha Jelly, Red Beans and Matcha Ice Shavings with a cup of thick Matcha Tea that is not sweet at all. My friends prefer this dessert to Mango Snowfetti because it is not as sweet as Mango Snowfetti. We will definitely order this again.

Side view. They are smart to use bowls with a much smaller base than the wide opening so that they do not need to give as much content as a bowl with a base as wide as the mouth of the bowl. The wide mouth enables the ingredients to be presented prettily so that the dessert looks lovely when seen from the top.

I thought all 3 scoops of sorbet are mango sorbet so I was surprised that 1 is soya sorbet. I would much prefer all 3 scoops to be mango sorbet. Don't think I will ever order Mango Deluxe again.

Total bill for 4 pax is MYR 57.45 nett - about MYR 14.40 nett per pax. Quite ok as one slice of quality cheese cake is more than this price and the hot weather calls for ice desserts instead of cakes.

This photo is extracted from the online menu and it states clearly that all the toppings will sink to the bottom and won't be seen as shown in the first photo here.

I won't be trying Mango Supreme because I believe that the ice shavings is similar to Mango Deluxe which is plain ice shavings with syrup that tastes like sugar cane syrup (Sugar Cane taste clashes with Mango). I will be having Mango Snowfetti again for the fine texture and nice taste of mango ice shavings.

We would be having this Uji'Ryo Supreme again and we will request for cream and syrup to be omitted. Hopefully the cashier will agree to our request when we place and pay for our order.

Please click on the above photo (extracted from the online menu) to view a larger image so that you may create a customised bowl of ice dessert in this Mix Series. I may order the Matcha Mix (MYR 12.50+ = MYR 13.25 nett) and choose Matcha Balls and Red Bean. The Tapioca Pearls are too chewy for me so I need to choose between Barley or Peanuts as the 2nd classic topping. Which one do you think goes well with the taste of Matcha (green tea)?

I won't be having any add-ons because if I do, the total price would be higher than the Uji'Ryo Supreme so I might as well order Uji'Ryo Supreme instead of making a customised version of Matcha ice. Uji'Ryo Supreme is really good value for money because it has so many toppings, 3 scoops of sorbet and 1 bowl of Matcha Tea, so much so that if I make a customised dessert based on Uji'Ryo Supreme, the final price is going to be much much higher.

    1. More people to share is better than eating alone because the dessert portion is huge.
