Nanyang Kopitiam

There is a new coffee shop just next to Friendship cafe in Esplanad, Bukit Jalil. They are in fact back to back. Their back facing each other or they are backing each other. So we went there instead for our takeaway food to try them out on Wed 28.apr.21 to give support. All the food items below are from this new coffee shop and are shared by 2 pax.

7.30 am Fri 30.apr.21 Ate this dry beef Lai fun noodles we bought on wed for breakfast. Niu Niu beef noodles in OUG has a stall in this new coffee shop. I select beef balls, beef meat, tendons so the price is MYR 10.50 nett. There are no peanuts when I remember there used to be peanuts for dry gravy type beef noodles from Niu Niu. Taste just as good as the noodles from the Niu Niu eatery in OUG.

5.30 pm Thu 29.apr.21 - dry curry chicken wanton noodles. I requested for no dark sauce gravy, just the dry curry gravy will do but I am not sure did they leave out the dark sauce cos the noodles taste a bit on the sweet side.

Another photo of the dry curry chicken wanton Mee. Looks like a lot of noodles, costs MYR 7 nett.

9.40 am Thu 29.apr.21 - Mee suah herbal soup with a variety of ingredients aka toppings such as a slice of char siew, fish ball, fish cake and some other items that I can't remember. Price is around MYR 7 or MYR 7.50 nett. I don't know how they choose this combination of ingredients. Seem like a mix and match assortment combo without a theme. He used the herbal soup and ingredients and cooked his own Mee hoon because he doesn't quite like reheated Mee suah which can turned gooey but I am ok with gooey Mee suah but this Mee suah surprisingly didn't turn gooey.

7.20 pm Wed 28.apr.21 - our shared dinner of dry 3jc which used to operate out of Friendship cafe but now has jumped ship to the new coffee shop. MYR 7 nett is the price I think.

5 pm Wed 28.apr.21 - late tea of a siew Bao, a kaya puff and a curry puff. All halves because we are sharing. MYR 2.20 nett each. He said the pork fillings of the siew Bao has a taste that he feels is pork going bad. I ate it but couldn't find this taste because the pork is heavily marinated with dark sweet sauce. After trying hard to find the taste, I find a taste that is like french beans and he confirms that it is the taste he is talking about. He says when he cooks raw pork and leaves the raw pork exposed for a few hours then will have this smell, which he says is rancid spoiled pork. I can't tell because I seldom cook raw pork and don't want to cook raw pork so am not going to buy siew Bao from this stall. The curry puff and kaya puff are ok.

12.30 pm - siew yuk and siew kai rice at MYR 8.50 nett I think. Quite decent. That day I watched a documentary about cooking chicken rice and I nearly fainted when I saw they pour a huge bowl of fats or oil and a huge bowl of MSG into the huge pot of boiling rice. So next time will only order plain white rice to go with roasted meat.

This is the new coffee shop, Nanyang Kopitiam behind friendship cafe.

  2. Ooh I really want that dry beef noodles!

But but... chicken rice is so yummy hehe. Probably the oil and MSG you saw were distributed to a large amount of rice so each portion isn't so bad.

    1. Should have similar dry beef noodles near you, or at Kota Damansara. For the chicken rice, very scary la to see such a large bowl of MSG.

  3. Lovely building, nice yellow colour.

I love beef noodles, never mind what style but we cannot dine in right now so I do not know when I would be able to go and enjoy it again.

  5. Hi mun greetings from SG, the thing about SG they keep importing cases from the curry country which has 300,000 cases daily. We all know whose fault it is. Stop saying we never do this and that, not wearing our masks properly etc. It is the minority who doesn't comply but it is the imports from that country and place in particular which got us into such state again! I am sure i can do without "fried pancakes" and curry for the next year.

You and your hubby stay safe and stay healthy, wonder when we can get out of this thing.

Nanyang kopitiam got nanyang kopi or not?

  6. A lot of coffee shops love to use the name Nan Yang right to make it sound more credible. :) The yellow coat of paint gives it quite a lot of limelight too.
