Calrose Rice 1 kg x2

Yesterday 24 May 2020 Sunday d68, I went to the same sundry shop to buy rice. Wanted to buy red or brown rice but they don't have 1 kg packs so I bought Calrose rice instead.

No A1 baked beans so bought M1 instead. I was requested to buy sesame oil too.

Total bill: MYR 38.60 nett, printed at 9.36 am.

This box of vegetables was received on Saturday 23 May 2020 d67. Kept some and gave the rest to my brother. Don't want to queue at supermarkets and wet markets so have to order delivery.

After buying rice, I went to buy sinful food - dry Curry instant noodles, pumpkin barley tong sui and fried dough. The total bill is MYR 17.50 nett and I didn't ask for breakdown.

Very flavourful instant noodles with curry chicken and potatoes. Ate the chicken and some noodles and keep the remaining noodles for the next day. So satisfying though the noodles are salty. 10.30 am.

Fried "dough" - one ma keok, two kap Chung, and two red bean filled pastry.

10.30 am - also bought this pork stomach pepper soup noodles for MYR 8 nett. I ate a bit.

Folks happily dining in. Tables are few and placed far apart from each other.

This is another coffee shop. This photo was taken on Saturday 23 May 2020 d67. The tables are few but they are placed closer than before mco. I wonder why. But that didn't stop anyone from happily dining in.

  3. That 2nd shop, maybe the customers were not meant to take their seats - all the tables in front, not laid out and arranged yet. I would love to try the rice. My girl buys Japanese sushi rice - never bothered to take a look - dunno if it is the same thing. Btw, do you soak red beans overnight before cooking? Tried once, no soaking, it was disastrous!

    1. Soak a few hours but not overnight cos scared that they will sprout. The tables in front are arranged that way to create a single entry point and another single exit point.

    2. I hope the shop will remove some of its tables to create distance between the tables.

  4. The instant noodles and chicken curry look delicious. I love those fried dough. My favorite is ham chin peng. The last photo of the coffee shop, looks too close for comfort but patrons seem OK with that. Possible they miss eating out so much hah..hah..

    1. I hope the coffee shop realize it and move the tables further apart. Yes the fried doughs are tasty but oily. Curry n instant noodles are my weakness.

  5. I didn't know there are red rice and calrose rice in the market. I guess there is so much for me to learn about rice.

My eyes went big at the sight of your ma keok. I miss eating this from the Happy Garden's stall. In one village in China, I saw a seller frying giant pieces of ma keok. They called it lions paw instead. Texture was similar but a bit hard and less sweet. I prefer our version.

    1. There are black rice too, very healthy but not as healthy as red rice. In Taiwan, the ma keok is also huge but taste harder.

  6. The 1st shop is good in observing the MCO SOP.
The 2nd shop is like an example of how people should themselves already know how to follow SOP especially after more than two months of MCO but chose not to, IMHO.

    1. The 2nd shop has some difficulty understanding the SOP I think.

  7. Guess a lot of people really enjoy dining in coffee shops huh. Perhaps they miss the ambiance more than the food. Still I will not try to dine in restaurants for the time being. Don't take risk.

    1. I agree with you not to take risk. We still stay-at-home and takeaway food now.

  8. I like the instant noodle with chicken curry. Looks yummy! I like pumpkin with barley tong sui. Not all the shops and restaurants allow customers to dine-in. Most of us prefer to tapau food home. Things will never be the same again.

    1. Around my area, there are eateries not accepting dine in yet also. The tong sui you cook at home is also very nice. Have you cook barley with pumpkin tong sui before? Yes I agree things will never be the same again.

    1. That noodles is very very flavourful. I guess that is true. The old folks like to lepak and sembang in coffee shops.
