Sam You Serdang

Another meal with the in-laws to celebrate a special occasion. Hee Lai Ton, Wisma Shaw, the favourite restaurant, was fully booked for a wedding banquet so we had to choose another place.

Mixed platter - jellyfish, deep fried pork belly, deep fried crab fish meat ball, and stirfried mushroom and asparagus.

This was included in the set meal - quite oily. Actually I can't appreciate this dish and will not order this at all.

Steamed fish

20 large-medium prawns in shells - quite a task to remove the shells and eat this so there were leftovers to be brought home.

This vege was not tender at all

Fried rice - the green colour came from spinach. We were quite full when this dish was served so we thought there would be leftovers but surprisingly one of the young persons at our table finished this.

Cold dessert - I only managed to snap a photo after it was half finished.

The address

We took the easy way out by just ordering from the set menu. MYR399++ for set 1. A bowl of soup was included which I did not show here because we are not supposed to consume this product from a wildlife.

Sam You (Serdang) Restaurant
Service Charge: 5% (cheaper than other restaurants that usually charge 10%)
Govt. Tax: 6%
Total Bill: MYR 442.90 (10 pax)

  1. the first dish the platter is always my favorite.. because it has 4-5 dishes in one and i can taste a little of everything, or probably because this is the very first dish being served due to a very long wait (especially during wedding dinners).. and i can see the jellyfish is served with abalone too~~

    1. Hahaha I think that is fake abalone. Maybe abalone mushroom only.

  2. ah, the suckling pig, something i don't eat and don't touch.. but then for an extra RM1 for this, i guess no harm ordering it, since this is really not a cheap dish.. but then, i will always prefer the roast chicken more, haha~~ :D

    1. Guess they put it MYR1 so everyone will order and feel happy that it is that price. I think they factor in the price into the set price already.

    1. The elderly ones love Cantonese dishes but health only premits them to eat a little of each dish only.

  6. Like SK, I also look forward to first dish... normally that time, the stomach will be growling and the varieties are normally different from each restaurant...
I think the piglet and the "forbidden" soup are the main cost, right? I tell you ah.. Chinese really ah... know how to enjoy eating.. and eating.. :)

    1. One set price, they did not break down the individual cost of the dishes.

  7. I reckon the vege is the dragon leaves. I like that vege very much and seems a trend of having this in many restaurants.

    1. Yes it is. The name is quite fanciful - ching long choy - dragon leaves but it is actually young chives.

    1. It is becoming quite a food place but no need to specially go out of your way as PJ also has similar good food.

    2. Not so sure about that as prices in SK are getting higher!

  12. Wow, all nice dishes! The first time I had the roasted piglet I actually felt giddy. Maybe due to the fats or feel guilty. hah,,hah..My favourite is always the mixed platter - a bit of everything nice. That green rice is interesting. And if prawns come with shells, it's no thank you for me hah..hah...That's how lazy I am :D

    1. Must be the fats. My brothers also don't bother to eat prawns with shells on.
