Comparison - Penang Curry

Noodles (left) are thicker and more "springy".

Curry paste (the dark "spot" in the middle of each bowl): Both are spicy and salty. I can taste clove and fried shallot oil for the curry paste in the left bowl and lemongrass for the one in the right bowl. I did not put in any other ingredients into the bowls of noodles so that the original taste will not be affected.

These are the two packets: MyKuali Penang White Curry and Maggi Royale Penang Seafood Curry. Both are tasty, it just depends on which one suits your palate.

  1. Boils down to the prices - the Penang one's too expensive. How much is the Maggi one?

    1. Yes, it is new under Maggi Royale sub brand. In the supermarket it is put separately and not near the normal Maggi mee so I nearly did not find it.

    1. We share the two bowls. Half half. If you say MyKuali portion is very little, the Maggi Royale you will think it is even lesser. Ya can go try it.

  5. voted the best instant noodles by some website, and i've heard many people who had tasted it praising it to sky high and at the same time, some also commented it's overrated.. can't tell by the photo though, really have to taste it before i can comment..

  7. Ooh this post I like. I thought you were comparing MyKuali and Ah Lai though, not aware that Maggi has responded to the competition! I tried MyKuali early on courtesy of my SIL. Loved it but just couldn't find it to buy. I did see in Camerons while on holiday but balked at the RM9 pricetag.

OK can easily find MyKuali already. Now must go find Maggi too. :)

    1. Now can get 4 small packs of MyKuali at MYR6.90 only. This Maggi Royale is sometimes put separately from the rest of the Maggi instant noodles so must search for it.

  8. My taste is anything, hahaha!! For me, I don't care what brand is that, but usually instant noodles taste shouldn't be very bad, right?

    1. Same as me as I usually just eat the noodles but not drink the soup. So far I only eat cintan, maggi, and mamee brand noodles usually, not sure about the rest is nice or not.

  9. I tried the kuali but not the royale maggi... I didn't put in the white creamer... just the curry spices.. very pedas in the kuali... I think once awhile eat ok.. too often like very "chai"... filling... :) But I also like the chicken original and laksa too from cintan..

    1. I think the royale maggi is newly launched. I cheated and did not stir in all the curry paste so not that chai, hehehe.

  12. i tasted Mykuali but it was awful experiencement where the curry soup was carry with some funny taste & smell. Wasted 3 left ovr pack till expired as dare not take any challenge to retest. Frankly, seems it has been over rated & sorry to advice no worth to try.

Tried Maggi Royale which taste very yummy & the soup paste comes with strong curry nice smell & good taste plus the mee was very Q. Worth to try out.

    1. Hhmmm, maybe you are not used to the MyKuali paste but then you could still eat the noodles (cook it using some other paste) but not use the paste provided.
