Tk (Tong Kee)

TK egg tart - MYR1.60 each for those made with lard and MYR1.80 each for those made with butter. Tong Kee is now known just by its initials, TK.

Some egg tarts have shortcrust pastry but TK egg tarts have puff pastry instead with flaky layers. If I feel like eating egg tarts, I will go and buy two from TK, one each for us as I like TK's egg tarts best.

  1. Oh yes, TK, who doesn't know them? Yep famous for egg tarts.. They do have fancy stuffs now like scones (with jam) and fancy cutie swiss rolls with fancy designs and patterns like zigzag, floral, polka dots, checkers, stripes and even animals..

  2. Ahhhh!!!! Very famous, Tong Kee! I had those before. Portuguese egg tarts - my girl loves those - she does not like the normal egg tarts. Usually they will have caramelised patches/stains on the "faces"?

  5. yeah TK egg tarts are nice, and I guess many would think the same.. I didn't know they have two types of egg tarts - one made of lard and one made of butter.. which is the default one if we buy??

hmmm, so I have actually no idea which I usually eat then, don't remember they asked if you prefer lard or butter, but I guess should be the cheaper ones..

nice to have TWO for breakfast or desserts, haha.. but if there is kaya roll or kaya puff to choose, I'll probably go for the kaya~~ :)

  6. Ah, yes, TK's egg tarts are lovely (and you can even buy them from some wet markets nowadays). Didn't know that some are made with lard (but I heard that lard makes it more flaky). Definitely prefer the puff pastry type which is more flaky =)

  7. Wow!!! That's my favourite shop and I go there every week without fail. I buy them for my aged old parents as they started liking soft & sweet desserts like kids. Their egg tart's pastry is still better than many other shops. I think if they improve slightly, they can be at par with those sold in Hong Kong. So damn nice!

I never failed to grab their bottles of kaya when it's available. Always laku and sold out.

  9. Yes, agree that TK makes very good egg tarts. I can eat 4 or more at one go :) I also love some of their breads and buns. My favourite is the multigrain with raisins inside.

  10. I'm not so much into the Hong Kong type of egg tarts, but I adore those Portuguese Egg Tarts for their flaky skins.
