A meal from the lunch set menu - MYR10.90 with 10% service charge so it is MYR11.99 - at an Old Town White Coffee outtlet with the work lunch group.
Old town white coffee with ice, comes with the set so this is one time I broke my own rule and had a glass of iced white coffee during lunch.
Chicken meat masquerading as Char Siew in this Wanton Mee in Soup with some deep fried dumplings (wantons) and vegetables. Passable only.
Still, this is the best wantan mee for my liking in Penang..
ReplyDeleteReally!? I remember eating pretty good wtmee in hawker stalls when I was studying in Penang.
DeleteOld Town? No, thank you. So very disappointing, my past few visits...but they say at these franchise places, it may vary from outlet to outlet. Terrible!!! No quality control. Still, at best, it would be pretty ok food, nothing sensational...at not very low prices.
ReplyDeleteIf got Other choices Sure will not go this place.
DeleteSeldom go to Old Town coz I feel it's expensive.. They have so many sets with different timing different portion but similar foods til I'm confused which one to order..
ReplyDeleteThey revamp the set menu a few months ago. of course is more expensive than real kopitiam.
DeleteFood is rather expensive and nothing to shout about and service is slow.
ReplyDeleteShould let their management know.
DeleteI seldom go to all these "high class kopitiam chain" because the same kind of food are handled by skillfully trained foreign talents and selling more expensive.. of course the environment is more comfortable and you got free wifi to use.. but then I actually prefer to go to the more rundown neighborhood kopitiam for the same kind of food, yes, me Uncle!! muahahaha~~ :p
ReplyDeleteSo you never compromised when your whole team wanted to eat here?
DeleteI have one in my neighbourhood and, when faced with nothing to eat, I still won't go there. Food is just edible but (for some reason) I really dislike their coffee :p
ReplyDeleteYou can always cook your own meal. :)
DeleteHave not eaten here before as my partner dislikes all these franchises. We have tried others and found the food not that great.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up!
DeleteGot chicken masquerading as wantans also. Quality does vary between outlets. So far the only thing I find good is the butter toast (but how not to love cool thick slices of butter? Hehe)
ReplyDeleteTheir Brown bread is quite unique.
Deleteold town white coffee is the choice for me when all other shops are closed...haha tht would be during CNY/festive season/after 9pm...Normally i will order nasi lemak, curry mee those kinda stuff, coz that would be their signature item on the menu. Wanton mee? i prefer chinese kopitiam coz i dun enjoy it without real pork ;-)
ReplyDeleteYes agreed. No choice then only eat here. This wtm set is the cheapest main meal on the menu. Lol!
