Ipoh Big Tree Noodle

Buy 1 Free 1? Ok, deal!

So the two of us walked in.

Uncooked Yong Tou Fu (A variety of food stuffed with fish paste) for us to choose from. A piece costs MYR1.40 but with the promotion on, we get 2 pieces for MYR1.40 so we selected 6 pieces for a total of MYR4.20 only.

More choices

They cooked our choices and brought them to our table. I got a shock when I saw that they deep fried the beancurd, long bean, bitter gourd and fish paste that I have selected.

I thought they would just cooked them in soup like this broccoli and green pepper (capsicum). Maybe next time I will ask them to just cook all of them in soup for me and not deep fried them.

We also ordered a bowl of seafood curry noodle - MYR12.90 - quite spicy but no fake crab sticks like the other shop.

Chee cheong fun with special soy sauce - MYR3.50 - this is one of their signature dishes so I did not request for the sauce to be served separately because I wanted to taste it in its original way of serving but what did I expect, of course it was too salty for me. So I must request the sauce to be served separately next time.

Egg custard? The name in the menu is cream brulee - MYR4.90 - not as light as the one I ate in Ipoh.

Ipoh white coffee - MYR3.90 - very creamy and thick - I like it as I only drink iced coffee and no hot coffee for me. Prices are nett and total bill came up to MYR29.40 and I think we ordered a little too much food for dinner as we were very full. We were told that this is a new place, since 2 months ago, in Sri Petaling. Not sure whether it is a franchise of the real Ipoh Big Tree Yong Tou Fu or not.

  1. I have been to the one in SS2 and okay, I was pretty disappointed with that.. especially when I have been to the real Ipoh Big Tree a few times already, I have seen they put on a notice saying "we do not have any outlet or franchise in KL", hahaha!!! xD

    1. Why were you disappointed? I find it quite ok, not too bad.

  2. They've franchised outlets now? Or ciplak ones? At least, this one's nice and clean. My Terengganu friends told me if in Ipoh, don't go to Big Tree - so dirty, not nice. I wouldn't know how true, never been there - did not manage to check it out when we stopped by once for lunch. :(

  3. I would like to try that curry mee but watch out. Need to be careful when eating it. Do not want to stain my shirt! Cream brulee?? First I see it served like this. Usually in ramekin.

    1. This is just the egg custard, not really cream brulee although it is stated as such in the menu. LOL!

  8. Yeah, I've seen some comments saying it's not good (the one in SS2) and not like the Ipoh Big Tree Yong Tau Foo at all. If the food was any good, I don't think we'd ever get a Buy 1 Free 1 offer. If they're not related, they shouldn't use the famous Ipoh Big Tree name to trick us into trying.

    1. I have not been to the Pasir Pinji Big Tree place. Well since they are new, the Buy 1 Free 1 offer is their marketing strategy to attract customers, cannot say their food no good because even some reputable restaurants also offer Groupon discount as a marketing strategy. Actually the Pasir Pinji Big Tree does not use this Ipoh Big Tree Noodle branding I think so I don't think anyone was tricked into eating. Anyway I find their YTF quite ok.

    2. Oh, I see, it's new...and they just use the name as it's synonymous with good YTF in Ipoh. Hmm, I love YTF...if you say it's ok, I should give it a try.

    3. Yes, this outlet is new (only 2 months). Not sure whether you like this kind of YTF, definitely not those O&S type.

  14. Deep fried is tastier but not healthy leh. I would prefer it to be cooked in soup. So would you go again?

    1. But I find cooked in soup tastier. Yes I would go again to try the other noodles. Actually the YTF is quite ok, better than some places that I have been.
