Canned lychees in syrup are very popular during Chinese New Year because many people like to eat it with ice cubes as a dessert. Fresh lychees on the other hand, are not that popular because some people say that after eating fresh lychees, they are prone to sore throat and cough. I wonder whether this is true or not. I just find fresh lychees to be very sweet.
i definitely prefer the fresh ones over the canned ones in syrup.. errr, i have heard that eating too much lychee cause heatiness, but wouldn't it be the same for the canned ones?? haha..
ReplyDeleteThe canned ones are soaked in syrup for a long time so maybe that is why will not cause sore throat and cough.
Deletesaw your comments in my blog earlier about the survey pop-up..
ReplyDeletethanks for highlighting this to me!! my first guess is that your screen resolution is not big enough, mine is 1440x900, haha!! anyway, if you cannot scroll then this is the direct URL for that survey page:-

Ya my resolution is different from that. Thanks for the URL.
Deletei like both canned and fresh lycees, regardless of those negative remarks (about heatiness, cough, sore throat etc)...
ReplyDeleteI assume you don't get those when you eat them, right?
DeleteI prefer fresh lychee, more juicy and natural sweetness.
ReplyDeleteDo you feel that they are "heaty"?
DeleteThat looks like our lenggeng and yes, just one...I'd have a sore throat already. Ok with canned lychees or longans.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly after soaking in syrup, they don't seem to cause sore throat.
DeleteWho cares about heatiness and sore throat? It is just same as durians. For me, I don't like fresh lychee because they are difficult to eat, have to bite off the flesh from the seed, and sometimes the skin of the seed sticks to the flesh, don't like that skin's texture :-/
ReplyDeleteI don't find that the skin comes off like some rambutans. Hahaha, if you have a bad case of sore throat, you will care because it is very uncomfortable.
DeleteThe lychee looks so big so juicy.. Yummmzzz.. I always buy the canned ones to be eaten with vanilla ice cream and ice cream soda, yummmzzz
ReplyDeletedo you eat fresh ones?
DeleteI prefer fresh lychees to canned one. Don't particularly like them but will eat them.
ReplyDeleteBut will you buy fresh ones?
DeleteI heard that the sore throat and cough could be due to pesticide residue on the lychee skin. Don't know true or not.
ReplyDeleteI also don't know.
DeleteI thought people didn't eat fresh lychees much because they are seasonal and very expensive compared to canned. I never knew fresh lychees tasted so nice until I ate the very big ones sold in China and was cheap.
ReplyDeleteChina does have a lot of fresh lychees.
DeleteI dont like fresh lychees. I dunno why..
ReplyDeleteToo sweet for you?
DeleteI love lychee both fresh and canned one. But both my girls also do not like it.weird**
ReplyDeleteOh, seldom I see young children do not like canned lychees.
