240gm Wahyu 7 (MYR95/100gm) - MYR264.50 - Medium Rare - HorseRadish Dip
I have only ordered steak once when I was 15 years old. After that it was just eating a bite or two off someone's order as I am not really into steak. But when I hear about how wonderful Wahyu steak is, I have to try it but keep putting it off due to its price.
Now I keep reading about a value for money Wahyu steak served by Maria's Steak Cafe's new outlet in Bangsar so I thought after all these years, let's just try it once and I did. I ordered medium rare because I read that it is the best way to enjoy this steak. I ate half of the steak without any sauce or dip and was full so shared the rest with my friends.
Verdict: Very tender and juicy steak with deliciously seared crusty outer layer with no beef taste until I chew for a long time and then only I get a little bit of the liver taste that I like. Objective reached, wahyu tasted.
Pink but with no red liquid oozing out so this is all fine with me.
Juicy
Take note of its tagline
How much is that? Here, there's one place, going for RM150. No, I can't afford it. Anyway, I'm not all that fond of steaks.
ReplyDeleteMYR95 per 100g so for 240g it is MYR228 and after 10% service charge and 5% govt. tax, the price of this wahyu is MYR264.50
DeleteMYR150 for 100g or for one steak?
DeleteRM265 for a steak, that's expensive.. But since its wagyu beef steak, I think the price us somewhere there..I only eat ribeye and normal sirlion steak, no wagyu...huhuhuhu
ReplyDeleteYes it is expensive for me but there are more expensive food out there but I won't be trying those.
DeleteI'm glad you finally had steak (after all these years)...wagyu or otherwise....welcome to the Steak Club! 200g is more than enough for an average eater and since you're a small eater, I was wondering why you ordered a 240g sized one. Maria's steaks are good...the Black Angus I had was RM96...I still can't bring myself to pay so much for wagyu...maybe one day. For now, I get my wagyu fix at Fresco which is way cheaper...kekeke!
ReplyDeleteSo that pungent sauce I thought was mustard was actually horseradish...I hate it! Mustard, horseradish, wasabi...all from the same family...all I hate! :D
DeleteTheir smallest portion of wahyu 7 is 240g so I have no choice but to order 240g.
DeleteMun, Lol...I really don't know how to enjoy medium rare beef. I only take well done, pink meat with or without blood is no, no to me...
ReplyDeleteThis is the only time I am eating a steak medium rare. Not as frightening as I would have thought it to be.
DeleteThanks for sharing your first experience with us! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! :-)
Deletewow!!! wagyu beef steak and that's over RM250 for a lunch!!! indeed a very luxury pamper, I think I still won't be willing to fork out the money, hahaha!! I mean I don't live to eat and probably I am not as "gastronome" to differentiate wagyu beef and normal beef, so better not waste money on my tastebuds, haha!! hope this long last and virgin experience of yours was worth remembering :)
ReplyDeleteI think even if you don't care but you can still tell the difference. Yes, I will remember this because I don't plan to eat this expensive meal ever again.
DeleteAlthough I don't quite eat beef but I can the meat is perfectly done.I like the tag of the restaurant...simple yet promising.
ReplyDeleteI will take note that you don't eat beef.
DeleteWow! And double wow! Luckily I am not crazy about steak unlike my hubby. If he sees this, I am sure he would fly over and try this wahyu steak.
ReplyDeleteHe likes it medium. Yours a bit too raw. Hehe.
Has he eaten all the wagyu steaks in Kuching?
DeleteGosh! I wouldn't pay for that. I know I am stingy :) But I did taste Wagyu beef before and that was because it was a treat paid by someone else hah..hah... Yup, it was so good!
ReplyDeleteAh, but you have tasted it before. If you did not I think you will pay for this just once in your lifetime. :)
DeleteI been to the one in Damansara perdana. Not bad
ReplyDeleteI heard that the outlet in Damansara Perdana was there for quite some time already but I seldom go there.
DeleteYes their best wahyu steak is well known in Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteIs it? Have you tried?
DeleteWahyu? You mean wagyu? I read all the comments autocorrect into wagyu, then TM's comment stick with wahyu. Same or not same?
ReplyDeleteI've had a 6 ounce (approx 170g I think) wagyu steak when in the US, just once. It was US$39 and it was wonderful! Don't eat beef when in Malaysia, so probably won't try this one. I have a strange reason that is not related to beef quality, maybe I'll blog about it..
Yes, I mean wagyu. Thanks for pointing this out. I am too lazy to correct my post so just leaving it as Wah you! Hahaha.
DeleteYes, do let us know the reason. Is it because your godmother is guan yin and she lives in Msia but not USA so you can eat beef in USA?
nice tender succulent wagyu beef steak! i wish i could try...but m abit thrifty with money nowadays...haha!
ReplyDeleteOnce in a lifetime should be ok I think to spend this kind of money on just one steak. Makes the death of the wagyu worth it!
DeleteI don't eat steak, but my hubby and the in laws love it.
ReplyDeleteYou are kai to guan yin too?
DeleteGosh. I can't quite get past how raw it looks. Nvm lah have to content myself with cheaper cuts that are more cooked hehe.
ReplyDeleteWhen your girls are grown up, they will treat you to lots of wagyu steaks! It looks raw but does not taste raw,
DeleteI'm a huge fan of Wagyu, but only take the Japanese breed ones. You'll know the great difference if you've tried Aust Wagyu. Welcome to the club! Hahaha! Btw, I've just cleared level 785 this afternoon! Phew! One of the most difficult level I've to say. Lol!
ReplyDeleteYou mean level 789? I am still stuck there. I dare not try Wagyu in Japan, too raw for me.
DeleteWow, you still can remember when was the last time you have steak, such a good memorized!! For me seriously, I can't remember anywhere and anywhen, super forgetful!! =]
ReplyDeleteMaybe you eat steaks too many times? ;p
