I was in Ampang Point recently and walked by this stall - "Sangkaya - nuts about coconuts" and so decided to try this coconut ice cream. I think they only sell coconut ice cream, no other flavours.
One scoop of coconut ice cream on a cone - MYR2.90, 3 scoops of ice creams - MYR6.90 and 4 scoops of ice cream with coconut flesh and 3 toppings of choice - MYR9.90 so we chose 3 scoops of ice creams but then the cashier upsell the MYR9.90 and we were sold so 4 scoops it was. We will get one more scoop of ice cream, some coconut flesh and 3 toppings.
We had to choose and put on the toppings ourselves but there was no space at all on the ice creams so we took only very little toppings. The choices for toppings are corn niblets, cornflakes, oatflakes (I think), kidney beans, coconut shavings, peanuts. We selected corn niblets, peanuts, coconut shavings.
The 4 scoops of ice cream on top of some pieces of coconut flesh were served in a tiny piece of coconut shell which made us very afraid that the ice cream would fall off and there was really no place for the toppings.
The coconut ice cream itself was not too sweet, just nice and before I knew it, the ice cream was finished. Maybe I will go for the single scoop next time.
Yummmmm the coconut ice cream looks so creamy and delicious.. I'm a big eater, but I dont think I can finish 4 scoops.. But would love to try these, sluurrrppp..
ReplyDeleteWhy not? It is not like dairy milk creamy type.
DeleteOoh, I love coconut ice cream! Shall have to check this place out. :-)
ReplyDeletePlease do. :)
DeleteThis look so yummy!! I wonder can pick 4 different scoop instead ya?? So then can try different flavor what!!
ReplyDeleteOnly coconut ice cream, no other flavours.
Deleteoh this looks very nice and haha, probably that's an intentional trick to upsell and also very little space for you to add toppings - else they would have rugi a lot, haha!!! :p
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is intentional.
DeleteGood eh? Sangkaya is my nephew's business enterprise, with his Thai girlfriend - my brother-in-law's son.
ReplyDeleteYes, good. Are there outlets in Sibu too?
DeleteOOh...I think I had something similar back then in Bangkok. Love the coconut ice cream served in the coconut shell.
ReplyDeleteYes, it tastes good.
DeleteAmpang Point! My lepak place when I was in college!
ReplyDeleteI think 3 scoops is a better deal, since the additional toppings for 4 scoops are so limited due to the small bowl..
But 4 scoops include some coconut flesh as well. Time for you to go to Ampang Point and do a walk-down-memory post. :)
DeleteOoo....I like coconut ice cream. Think I'd like it without any toppings :)
ReplyDelete3 scoops for you then. :)
DeleteI would like that coconut ice cream too but 4 scoops are too much for me.
ReplyDeleteShare with your children?
Deletehad that once
ReplyDeleteAt this outlet?
DeleteThis reminds me of the coconut ice cream in Thailand! Cheap and yummy!
ReplyDeleteYummy is right! :D
DeleteI love all things coconut! This would be my place to be. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, it would be. :)
DeleteI will go for 1 scoop first and add the toppings. If the ice cream is really good, then will go for 3 scoops. The ice cream looks real creamy and nice.
ReplyDeleteNot the same as dairy creamy but very nice!
DeleteWasted la the upsell if no place for the additional toppings! I'd have gone more for the ice-cream rather than toppings.
ReplyDeleteBut got coconut flesh included which is not in the 3 scoops option.
DeleteHaha clever of them to do that then!
DeleteSo which option is more value for money?
DeleteI have never had coconut ice-cream. I would imagine that it is good. The serving plate is too small. A bowl would be better. Maybe it is done that way so that people can't take a lot of toppings.
ReplyDeleteDon't think that is the intention. Serving in coconut shells is part of reusing aka rrecycling
DeleteI do have a weakness for all things coconut & I love ice-creams!
ReplyDeleteThen you would love this! :)
