Deconstruct

I was not hungry but wanted something light to eat with vegetables and protein so I settled for this Toasted Bun with Rendang Chicken - MYR5.50 at Hailam Kopitiam. As I really did not know what to expect for the chicken rendang, I requested for the rendang sauce to be served separately.

The rendang sauce was served separately as requested.

Vegetables - tomato, cucumber, lettuce

Protein - Strips of Chicken meat

Would you order a bun like this for MYR5.50++?

  1. We have mini burgers with sambal (and cucumber) here - they call those Doraemon...and kompia with rendang. Not bad but no, not my favourite.

  3. Never try this type of burger before. Maybe I would give it a try once.

  4. I probably won't think of requesting separate rendang sauce. I thought a proper rendang would be cooked with the sauce together?

    1. The chicken pieces in a proper rendang are too big to fit into such a small bun. Never seen strips of chicken meat cooked in rendang before.

  5. They call that rendang chicken??!! Nope, I wouldn't buy it and I don't buy into that idea of rendang chicken.

    1. Not even normal chicken rendang? Only beef rendang for you?

  6. Oh wow, that's quite a lot of meat in the bun. Taste good?

  7. I have no idea how rendang sauce tastes like. How does it taste like? Do you like it?

    1. I like the taste of rendang - it is creamy with coconut milk with lots of spices and a bit hot spicy.

  8. If the chicken is salted chicken meat strip, I think it will taste good. I would prefer the chicken to be cooked together with the sauce.

    1. Maybe they will do a quick heating up of the strips with rendang if I did not request it to be separated.

    1. The bun is too small for a piece of real chicken meat unless it is like chicken patty.

  10. I've never seen rendang chicken cooked separately without the sauce. I won't order this coz it doesn't look appetising at all :(
