Chocolate Brulèe

Celebrated a friend's birthday at Secret Recipe. We ordered slices of cake to share - 4 slices shared among 7 persons because everyone is watching their weight.

This is their latest creation - Chocolate Brulèe (I think the price is about MYR10 ish for a slice). They described it as:

"A delightful chocolate-centric vanilla crème brulèe treat set in three distinctive layers of mud
cake, brulee and couverture chocolate mousse topped with a thin chocolate glaze. Enjoy this silky smooth creamy brulee with bittersweet notes on crisped croquantine base."

I had to look up the words couverture and croquantine as I am no cake expert. The mud chocolate layer is very chocolaty so I like it but I am not very fond of mousse although the combination of the 3 textures here seems to work.

We love to eat strawberries so the other type of cake we ordered was this strawberry vanilla cake. I think it costs about MYR10 for a slice and I can't remember the exact name for it. My only complaint about it is that it has way too much cream for my liking.

All in all, a good birthday celebration.

  1. Creme brulee I hear before la, not chocolate.. Oooo SR, new one? Usually I go for red velvet, cheesecake or the fruit one..

  2. No, thank you. I'd stick to the regular creme brulee - it's the custard that I want, and I wouldn't like it buried in chocolate like that. I love the strawberry one, had that before...and I like their cream, not sweet...just that I have a bone to pick against SR. The drinks at the outlet here are RM1 more expensive than in the peninsula. Drinks!!! Not so bad if it had been the cakes and the food - all the rest, same prices. Tsk! Tsk!

    1. I wonder why they need to charge MYR1 more for the drinks at your side.

  3. I wonder if everyone is watching their weight or just pretending to watch their weight. I actually feel quite sad that we hardly celebrate birthdays with a full cake anymore (yes, we are like that too), it is like something is missing..

  4. Interesting. Brulee in a cake. I love chocolate so I would give it a try. But need to share a slice because I am not so into cake.

    1. But I think most places like Starbucks or Coffee Bean or Alexis charge about the same price as this place if not more.

  7. I like mousse and cream cakes, so I guess both the cakes would be fine with me.

  9. Between the two cakes, I would prefer to go for Chocolate Brulee...looks so tempting and yummy to me. But I too need to watch my health, not my weight.

    1. Weighing more tends to lead to bad health, no?

  12. I find the cream at Secret Recipe to be completely bland. Usually dairy cream tastes milky, fresh and light. Dunno what SR is using!

    1. Oh is it? I have never eaten fresh, milky and light cream before so maybe that is why I don't like cream because I have not tasted the really good ones.
