The best broth for Prawn Mee
Penang Loh Mee - with pickled chopped garlic
Cham Loh - Prawn Mee mixed with Loh Mee
This eatery is a branch of Green House Prawn Mee and is located opposite Chew Thean Yeang Aquarium at Burma Road
Price List
A branch of Penang Famous Green House Prawn Mee but taste better than the prawn mee at HQ
Prawn mee with siew yok? It is something new to me cos we don't have that in SG and the siew yok looks good
ReplyDeleteThe siew yok is added on to the prawn mee at an additional price. By default they do not put siew yok in with the prawn mee.
DeleteYou have more? Wow, this is the sort of holiday that I want :D
ReplyDeleteYes because we eat out for almost all meals.
DeleteI want prawn mee and I also want the Cham loh! But no thank you to the raw garlic.
ReplyDeleteThe raw garlic has been soaked in vinegar (pickled) so the garlic taste is not that strong. It enhances the taste of the loh mee.
DeleteStrange. They never put a blob of heh koh (prawn paste) on your spoon for the hokkien mee (which you call prawn mee). Not that I'm complaining, but I don't remember any hawkers in Penang that would exhibit such respect to customer preferences. In my experience, they would at best ignore you and at worst tell you to f*** off if you request the heh kok to be omitted or served on the side... :|
ReplyDeleteEh, this is Hokkien mee aka prawn mee wor, got give heh koh meh? I thought only assam laksa that they give heh koh on the spoon.
DeleteIf you like to eat hokkien mee, you must eat at this branch, the broth is very tasty, full of prawn taste and you can add as much siew yok into the mee as you like.
Hokkien mee, some places give sambal, some give heh koh. If laksa and loh mee then 100% heh koh... Anyhow your spoon will come with something. :|
DeletePlease blog about the places that give heh koh with hokkien mee with photos if you encounter them, ok? Curious to know which places.
DeleteHappy New Year to you Mun :D
ReplyDeleteThanks. Same to you.
DeleteHappy New Year, 2016, to you and your loved ones, cheers! Not a fan of these but will eat. Penang people give kay kor with everything, even chee cheong fan, steamed yam cake...their trade mark.
ReplyDeleteNo lah. So far They don't give hay kor in hokkien prawn mee. Both times I eat prawn mee there is no hay kor.
DeleteI got! At two places, Penang Road, one nice - the other not really...

I have read your post. Those are chili sambal in the spoons for both bowls of hokkien prawn mee in your photos above, not prawn/shrimp paste (hay kor). Hay Kor is black and looks smooth, not lumpy.
Deletemun, you were in Penang, the food heaven, no wonder everything looks so yummy. I love to mix loh and prawn mee soup too.
ReplyDeleteThen you must eat at this eatery the next time you visit to Penang. Their broth has very strong authentic prawn taste.
DeleteHappy New Year, Mun! Ei, I've also never been given (or eaten) "har ko" with prawn mee (aka Penang Hokkien Mee) before....only in assam laksa.
ReplyDeleteYes, so far, I have never been given har ko with Penang Hokkien mee, only in Assam Laksa too. Happy New Year to you and your family!
DeleteWow! You are so updated and I only knew of Green House only which was always packed at night.
ReplyDeleteThis is a branch of Green House and is better than the HQ. You must try this the next time you are in Penang.
DeleteHad to look twice at that pic of the cham loh! Interesting. I like the idea of the pickled raw garlic too.
ReplyDeleteIf you go to Penang, you must try the cham loh at this branch.
