I noticed that there are many mixed development projects around the south of the Penang Island (around Bayan Lepas area) that place residential condominium blocks in the same area as commercial shoplots making it very convenient for residents to just walk out and eat without needing to drive, such as "The Golden Triangle" project, "One World", "Elit Heights" to name a few. The Sunday that we were in Penang, for a late lunch, we just walked out to "The One Terrace" commercial shop lots to look for food and found only a few eateries that were still open for business.
Assam Laksa - MYR4 - tasty - you can have it with noodle, rice or yam rice. We wanted to try the yam rice but it has sold out so we just ate assam laksa noodle. Flavourful and tasty with enough fish meat.
631 Laksa, their HQ is in Jalan Perak, Penang. The owner (I assume) of this shop told us that we could order food from the shop opposite and eat in his shop so some of us did that.
Nasi Lemak (coconut milk rice but this version does not use coconut milk) - about MYR9.80 from the shop opposite. The deep fried squids have a crunchy coating and tender flesh so they were delicious.
This is the eatery - Pearl City Restaurant - which is located directly opposite the Assam Laksa eatery. Just place your order and make the payment and then the waiter will send your food to you sitting in the Laksa shop.
This is what the banner says - Healthy Nasi Lemak. I guess since they do not use coconut milk for the rice, they call it a healthy version of nasi lemak.
I missed assam laksa. The nasi lemak looks delicious but I am cutting the intake of rice. Yums!
ReplyDeleteDon't eat rice for dinner but can eat for breakfast or lunch and worked it off before dinner.
DeleteOh that's so nice of the owner to allow food from the opposite shop into his premises. Are they related or anything?
ReplyDeleteDon't think they are related but cooperating to give more business to both I guess.
DeleteNasi lemak looks gorgeous. I hardly ever venture out of the city centre in Penang, RM15 to anywhere in the city centre even if it is from one end of Penang Road to the other, RM30 to Queensbay and over RM100 to Feringghi - taxi is so expensive. I hear they would go be meter now.
ReplyDeleteWe were staying in this area and drive to town.
DeleteWhat is it with Penang eateries serving noodles in a big bowl with soup barely reaching the top?! :D I've seen this in quite a few of the noodles you had in Penang.
ReplyDeleteThey serve smaller portions than in KL and I guess big bowls are cheaper than small bowls, hahahaha.
DeleteHuh... new eateries again? Maybe it is time to come here for some pusing-pusing again. Been awhile since I last came to this cluster of shops. The parking is a nightmare, they only have 2 parking lots per shop, plus a bit more in that broken a** tar area. How to cater for so many restaurants lah >.<
ReplyDelete(No, I don't consider the multi-storey as a viable parking space, have to walk quite far LOL!)
Go on weekends, should have enough parkings near the shops.
DeleteThe nasi lemak is well presented.
ReplyDeleteIt does look that way.
DeleteWow.. I want to try this 631... wait till my leg is better.. laksa not in my itinerary yet...
ReplyDeleteYou will go to Penang more often when your girl is doing her intership there.
Deletelooks yummy...I like deep fried squid, calamari rings...whtever that comes with fried and crunchy crust on seafood!
ReplyDeleteYou prefer the nasi lemak than the assam laksa, right?
DeleteWon't you agree that without coconut milk, the nasi lemak has lesser oomph!??
ReplyDeleteDifferent. We just treat it like eating some other meal, not nasi lemak without the coconut milk.
DeleteBowl is too big for that laksa la... haha. In a few more years if they keep shrinking portion, laksa will barely cover the bottom of the bowl!
ReplyDeleteThere are large portions available too if you prefer to eat more.
