Cross section. It is sweet with the fragrance of sesame seeds and has a crispy crust with a chewy inside. My spouse says it tastes milky but I can't detect it because I am not sensitive to milk whereas he can't stomach the milky taste. Somehow when I was eating it, its taste and inside with a soft chewy texture reminds me of deep fried glutinous rice balls covered with sesame seeds (Jin Dui/Jian Doi).
The price for a single bun. Is your guess correct?
everything is so expensive, hope there is no GST on this bun.
ReplyDeleteI think they have already included it in this price.
DeleteUhm, that doesn't look so enticing though, ahahahhaha, but i gues that's worth the price eh? im learning culture here mun! thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteDon't think it is worth it.
Deletelooks interesting.. at first I thought it has a thin crust with a huge fillings of sesame paste inside.. but look carefully it's actually a more chewy bread texture.. would try if it's like RM1.50, haha!!!
ReplyDeleteYou can buy Korean mochi premix flour and bake your own to try.
DeleteI didn't think it would be so expensive....the size of it can be eaten in one bite! When I see a crust like that (with a broken surface), I'd know that there's quite a bit of sugar involved (that's why it's sweet) and if it's milky too (like your spouse said), then I know I definitely won't like it :(
ReplyDeleteIt is only slightly sweet. The crust with broken surface should be due to the glutinous rice flour in the mochi premix flour used. Since you are ok with dairy products this very faint milk taste won't affect you. You should try it for its special texture alone.
DeleteThe 賣相 like not so good though...hehe!! Guess they probably should put some efforts on that, paiseh....
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing to be done about it. This mochi bun speciality is its crust with broken surface.
DeleteLavender, should be good. Very well-known this bakery.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the Korean mochi buns except that it is black, charcoal. I know one that does it very well here, all the bakeries around - not really so, so I would never buy from them. Just RM1.00 for one.
So much difference in the price.
DeleteI actually guessed RM 4.80 or something, seeing that the bun has a somewhat exotic name and using somewhat exotic ingredients. Not that I think RM 4.80 or even RM 3.60 is a good price. For a bun so small, anything over RM 1.50 is too much for me.
ReplyDeleteI guess you are right. Bamboo charcoal sounds quite fancy.
DeleteThere's a Lavender at 1-U and I went in to look see look see but didn't buy anything. I guessed the bun was RM3.50. Maybe one day I will buy to taste what it is like.
ReplyDeleteYou bake so well so I am sure you can bake mochi buns that are more delicious. There are many recipes on this.
DeleteI will enjoy this with piping hot coffee or nescafe. I love chewy buns.
ReplyDeleteYou will love this then because it is soft and chewy!
DeleteI knew the price already hehe. Used to try every Lavender product. This one ok la (actually... most of them ok only?)
ReplyDeleteWill you buy this again? Oh, you wrote "used to" so that means you don't buy Lavender's products anymore?
DeleteNah hardly go already since out of convenience zone. Some more lose the mojo to go also.
DeleteToo bad for Lavender to lose a good customer like you.
DeleteI like the mochi bun texture but I ll prefer if they have green tea flavour.
ReplyDeleteSo far I have only seen this flavour from them.
