Grand Shanghai Banquet

Dim Sum with the in-laws at a relatively new Chinese restaurant in Sri Petaling. I am going to list the items in the photo above in no particular order below. I am sure you can tell which is which. Prices stated below are inclusive of 10% service charge and 6% GST.
1. Steamed Prawn & Vegetable Dumpling (3 in a basket) - MYR11.35
2. Prawn Dumping (Har Gao, 4 in a basket) - MYR10.45 - with one whole prawn inside so it is nice
3. Pork and Shrimp Dumpling (Siew Mai , 4 in a basket) - MYR9.30
4. Xiao Long Bao with yellow wine (3 in a basket) - MYR10.45
5. Steamed Fish Ball (Yu Mai, 3 in a basket) - MYR8.75
6. Steamed Custard and Salted Egg Yold Bun (Lao Sar Bao, 3 in a basket) - MYR8.75
7. Prawn Mango Wrapped in Fried Vermicelli (3 per portion) - MYR16.10
The Dim Sum here is comparable to those served in those popular Chinese restaurants like Oriental Pavilion and much better than those Dim Sum chain eateries but this is to be expected as the price is very much higher.

Porridge with Pork Rib and Century Egg - MYR16.10 - this is the smallest portion available and is enough for 4 pax. Stir-fried radish cake with bean sprouts - MYR9.85

Hong Kong Steamed Rice Roll (Chee Cheong Fun) with prawns - MYR9.85

BBQ Pork Bun - MYR14.85 (3 per portion) - nicer than the ones from Sheng Kee Dessert

Cross Section of BBQ Pork Bun

Lao Sar Bao is tasty!

Gold Ceiling with lights that caused the photos to have a yellow tint

A pot of chinese tea is charged at MYR2.32 per head so the total bill came up to MYR143.50 for 4 pax

It occupies a corner shoplot

  1. Wowwwww!!!! Sure looks grand. Everything's rather pricey but I am not familiar with the going prices at such upscale dim sum places there. Is this more expensive than the Hong Kong franchise one?

  4. Hmm... the last picture looks familiar. Is it in that cluster of shops with McD and Public Bank? Last time I fetched my mom to somewhere near there, got a supposedly very famous backbone expert TCM guy that charged us RM 3k for 2 treatments, I ended up have to go tekan ATM @.@

    1. You have a good memory. McD is on the same row, at the far end corner shoplot whereas Public Bank is opposite, across the road. I don't know the TCM expert you mention here mainly because I can't tell a real TCM expert from a quack.

    1. The Chee Cheong Fun is tasty and they give two long stalks of green choy sum too. It is my photo lighting that is wrong that makes it seem like the vege is yellowish whereas in reality it is green and fresh. Not crumbly, it is sweet, soft chewy.

  6. If the dim sum is good, I don't mind forking out extra once in a while.

    1. The decor is very "gold" inside. These BBQ Pork Buns are similar to the THW's ones. I agree with you, Lao Sar Baos are good! :)

    1. Eat dim sum, the taste is all that matters to me. Don't understand how they can be presented better. They are afterall pieces of morsel in bamboo baskets only, right? The vege in the ccf is green and fresh, not yellowish as shown by my photo's poor lighting.

    2. Arrange the veg STRAIGHT maybe? OK maybe your lighting coz the veg looks kinda wilted.

    3. The veg is straight when it left the kitchen and somehow when we move the plate around the table, the veg moved.

    4. OK not the fault of the kitchen then!
