Since Poppo Kanteen is a new eatery in Sri Petaling, we went back to try other items on their menu, especially the mutton and beef dishes.
Briyani Gam Mutton - MYR17.90 nett. There is a lot of mutton underneath the rice. The mutton is tender but the dark gravy is on the sweet side with a strong taste of star anise and clove which is unlike the taste of briyani gam mutton that I have eaten before. There are pieces of carrots and potatoes in the small bowl of curry given. The acar (pickled raw cucumber, onion, pineapple) is sourish sweet and tasty.
Nasi Lemak Chicken Rendang (Coconut milk rice with chicken cooked in spices and coconut milk) - MYR8.90 nett. We ordered Beef Rendang but was told it was sold out so we chose chicken rendang. They gave us a big piece of chicken breast meat but the default portion of rice given was quite small, good for people who wants to consume less carbohydrates.
Cendol - MYR4.90 nett - it is sweet with a tinge of saltiness in the coconut milk on coarse ice shavings and there are corn niblets which is not usually present in cendol.
Poppo Cham (cold) - MYR4.90 nett - cham means mix in Cantonese and normally for cham, it will be a mix of tea and coffee but this Poppo Cham drink has milo in it too. The milo taste in this drink overpowered the coffee and tea so we will order the usual cham next time because we prefer coffee and tea.
Total: MYR36.60 nett. We will be back because I have yet to try their mutton curry and beef rendang.
Poppo sure can cook! Hey, nasi lemak in an old school enamel plate. Nice touch!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I don't think Poppo cooks this herself in this outlet. :)
DeleteYa, cannot lah... Milo cannot be added into a normal "cham" one... The only thing that works well with Milo is Neslo - Nescafe + Milo.
ReplyDeleteWe also did not know until we drank it and asked the head waiter about it.
DeleteI know Nasi Lemak is an authentic Malaysian dish and I really want to try it someday.. if i can only find a Malaysian restaurant here in my place
ReplyDeleteHope you find a restaurant that serves nasi lemak near your place. :)
DeleteI always thought the word "gam/gum" in nasi briyani means that they cook the chicken or lamb together with the nasi briyani e.g. if it's nasi briyani gam kambing, the lamb would be saffron/rice flavored and comes with the rice (without gravy).
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm mistaken though, that was just my impression.
I had briyani the other day too, also lamb curry, actually I prefer it with curry coz it tastes nicer. :)
I think you are right. I don't think this one here tastes authentic.
DeleteWow..the food looks appetizing, yes, big piece of chicken breast.. worth it... !
ReplyDeleteI think the price is ok too.
DeleteI can see that you like this place very much. The food looks good and the prices are reasonable.
ReplyDeleteSo far so good. Have not tried all the beef and mutton dishes yet so can still go there since the price is ok.
DeleteI actually love corn and won't mind it in the chendol though it will end up like ABC with santan. But I just love corn more than the chendol itself. Haha. If I am ever in Sri Petaling, I'll definitely give this place a try as I can see that you are a fan of it.
ReplyDeleteBeen here twice only. I also like to eat corn niblets and don't mind them in cendol.
DeleteFrom the picture, the food looks so nice and tasty. I have drank milo + nescafe and I like it.
ReplyDeleteI like neslo too but this one is tea + coffee + milo.
DeleteStrange to have milo in 'cham'. Milo is more expensive then either tea or coffee.
ReplyDeleteThey try to be special I guess.
DeleteThe food looks delicious but they don;t sound cheap to me.
ReplyDeleteThis place got aircond and nice decor so the price is better when compared to Paparich and Old Town White Coffee.
