Drunken Cat

During the long weekend, my inlaws got together and couldn't decide on where to go for dinner. I wanted to eat somewhere nearby so I suggested going to Restaurant Drunken Cat at Kuchai Lama as I have read Small Kucing's post about this place and that the food tastes fine and price is reasonable. The portions available are small, medium and large and we ordered all medium portions for the dishes as there were 8 of us.

Guiness pork ribs (medium) - MYR22 - my mother-in-law likes this dish a lot because the ribs are tender inside but crispy outside and very, very flavourful.

Steamed kampung (village) chicken with ginger paste (half) - MYR30 - firm meat due to it being a village chicken (free range chicken - lots of space to roam and run about as opposed to caged farmed chicken).

Yam basket with chicken cubes, cashew nuts, red pepper bells inside (medium) - MYR22 - quite nice.

Signature tofu dish (medium) - MYR20 - two types of tofu - deep fried and not so deep fried. I prefer it to have less sauce.

Hong Kong Kailan (medium) - MYR16 - tender yet crunchy so this was the first dish to be wiped out.

We were charged MYR2.50 each for two plates of snacks (deep fried crunchy dough titbits), 7 bowl of rice at MYR1.40 each and a pot of hot chinese tea (water is refillable) at MYR1.20 per person for 8 persons. The price of a bowl of rice and hot chinese tea per person is a bit cheaper than other restaurants by 10 to 30 cents. I think we will make this a regular place to have dinner from now on with my in-laws.

    3. Hehehe, I seldom drink at all. Just that day, my spouse's friend celebrated with a Ballantine's 21 Year Old whisky and I just drank like a bit (like 80ml?) only.

  2. Ooooo...pork ribs!!! Awesome. Food looks good. You take me there when I hop over, can? Wink! Wink!

Ya...what a name! I wonder why it is thus called. You think there's the possibility that it is owned by the Kucings? Wahhhh...they must be so very rich hor? LOL!!!

    1. Sure, can. When are you hopping over? :)

I'll let the Kucings answer your 2nd question. Lol!

  3. Probably can't go with my family. My mom would approve the kampung chicken and kailan, but probably not the rest. She is paranoid with anything that has gravy or thick sauce and marinades when eating out nowadays.

    2. you can go with your mum and not order those gravy dishes.. or you can order those gravy dishes and ditch your mum at home!! :D

    3. I hardly do that anymore, I mean the ditching mom at home part. I used to allocate 50% time with family and 50% time with friends when I go back, now I mostly hangout at home and be my mom's ahmat. Don't know, I feel she is getting older and I start to want to spend more time with her when I can.
