Zab Zab Boat Noodle

After eating at Authentic Thai Boat Noodle, we noticed that there is another Thai Boat Noodle eatery nearby so we decided to try it too. This Zab Zab Boat Noodle eatery serves Tom Yam flavour noodle in addition to the Original flavour. The bowl used is bigger but the portion of noodle served is just as little (at most 2 mouthfuls but I guess 1 mouthful if you have a big mouth).

It is very simple to order as there are very limited food items on the menu. We just have to decide:
1. Tom Yam or Original taste
2. Thai Kuey Teow or Mee Hoon
3. Soup or Dry
4. How many bowls (each bowl costs MYR1.90 nett)

and order a combination of the above variables.

Tom Yam Mee Hoon Soup - I like this better than the Original Flavour because of the slight spiciness.

Left: Tom Yam Thai Kuey Teow Soup Right: Tom Yam Mee Hoon Soup - I prefer mee hoon over the kuey teow because Thai kuey teow is thinner and slippery so the mee hoon is easier to eat.

Original Mee Hoon Soup

We started by ordering 6 bowls - 4 original and 2 tom yam.

Original Thai Kuey Teow Soup

Very crispy Pork Rind - MYR1.90 and Coconut Juice - MYR5.50

After eating the first round, we realised that we did not order any dry version so we ordered two bowls of Tom Yam Mee Hoon and Thai Kuey Teow Dry above. The dry version just means using very little Tom Yam soup as the sauce instead.

In the end, the two of us ate 12 bowls with a bowl of Pork Rind.

The Thai Coconut Jelly was sold out that day

Drinks available

I like the Tom Yam soup mee hoon so I will go back for more when it is not so crowded. We had to wait for a while to get a seat this time.

  2. I went to the Floating Market in Bangkok but I did not want toe at anything as everything looked so dirty and the smell from the river would ruin anyone's appetite...but that was in the 80's. I bet it is all very different now.

    1. Dunno who these bloggers are:
      http://thegutterfood.blogspot.com/2014/09/thai-boat-noodle-in-jaya-one-is-not-for.html
but somebody shared the link on Facebook and it was a hit. Traffic zoomed by leaps and bounds - I thought they were funny too but one could just have this much of it - it soon got rather boring.

    3. LOL, that blog I actively avoid. I read a few of their reviews, they gave me a feeling that they are just writing like dickheads, probably to capture readers attention and drive more traffic to their blog. Their reviews are somewhat biased. After a few articles, I never go back anymore.
Like this one, the writer obviously don't even know what Boat Noodle means, then cursing like nobody's business.

    4. Hahaha, I think the person who wrote that post purposely wrote it that way for maximum comedic effect. I don't believe he or she did not know about the tiny portion beforehand.

  4. Probably 1 mouth per bowl for me then XD . I prefer bihun over kuay teow too. Especially those Thai kuay teow, they really are too slippery to eat easily.

    1. The first one to open is called "Boat Noodle" at Empire Damansara and has 3 other outlets now at Jaya One, Ikon Connaught and Publika. The two I went are not from the same chain but are competitors.

    1. Your daughter is very in to know of eateries serving food by using spoons only instead of bowls.

  7. It's more expensive to eat this boat noodles than eating the normal noodles so I think I'll give it a pass. Somemore with the crowd... maybe if I have no kids with me I'll think differently though :)

    1. Yes, for normal and big eaters, eating this will be more expensive as they will eat more than 6 bowls each. :)

  9. Once I ate them at Empire Damansara which is forever packed at any day and any hour! Goodness! I love to eat them but I cannot stand the queue like 1 hour and half.
Then, I saw their branch at Jaya One and it was often empty!!! Yahoooooo!

    1. The first Boat Noodle now has many outlets but I still have not given them a try because all the outlets are not near my place. :(

  10. I think this is actually a very interesting concept if they have more varieties of soup and ingredients to pick from. Some people complain it is too expensive for just 2 mouthfuls but if you can accept 2 mouthful of sushi at a much higher cost, why not this, right? :)

    1. That's a very good way of looking at it - you are right - sushi is so much more expensive than this noodle.
