WG Lunar 8 month 15 day

On this day, my friends will eat vegetarian meals so I just tag along. Fried rice with chopped spinach at MYR 11.90 nett at Five Fingers Organic Grocer. The portion is too small for my friend who is still hungry after finishing her lunch.

Stirfried glass noodles at MYR 11.90 nett. The portion is larger than the fried rice portion and taste good as it is a bit spicy and tangy.

I ordered the dish that my friend had the last time we ate here - Wan Tan Yee Mee at MYR 11.90 nett. The yee mee is thicker than what I am used to and there is a lot of vegetables in the dish: broccoli, cloud ear fungus, napa cabbage, carrot, sugar snap peas, yellow capsicum and cauliflower so I was full halfway through the dish but I forced myself to finish everything on the plate because I was lazy to keep them for later and noodles like this do not keep well.

Total bill for vegetarian dishes is MYR 35.70 nett for 3 pax.

This year, my plan is not to buy any moon cakes but after our lunch, I pass some stalls that are having a promotion of 30% off the regular price of moon cakes because this is the festival day itself (last day) so I bought a box of 4 lotus mooncakes with 4 salted egg yolks in them from oversea brand (haewaytian). The price for one lotus mooncake with 4 salted egg yolks in it is MYR 23.50 nett each but with 30% off, it costs MYR 16.45 nett only so I can't help myself and bought 1 box of 4 for MYR 65.80 nett to share the moon cakes with my friends. So far, I believe locally, only oversea brand has 4 salted egg yolks in one lotus moon cake.

Normal price is MYR 23.50 nett for one lotus moon cake with 4 yolks from Oversea brand.

  1. I used to wait till the day after the Mooncake Festival to buy at huge discounts - no more I think these days, none left as they do not import so much, not selling all that well. FOUR YOLKS??? Wahhhhhhh!!! That's nice!

  5. For me a veggie-only lunch means needing something at teatime.

I think it's a marketing ploy to withdraw mooncakes after the festival rather than offering deep discounts to get rid of them for many days after that. So people (like me) won't be able to plan to get cheap mooncakes. Want to eat gotta pay full price.
