WG Matcha Souffle

Matcha Souffle with Earl Grey Ice Cream - MYR 19 nett. I have only eaten souffle once at Franco, One Utama (this eatery has been replaced by Marco) and could not remember much about it.

This "Catcher in the Rye" cafe is supposed to be by the same people who run "Wild Sheep Chase Cafe" in Taman Desa which is famous for their souffle so I thought the souffle here should be good too.  My guess is correct as it is tasty with a fine, soft and fluffy texture with a moist center. The green tea and egg taste is very subtle.

From various online sources:
Souffle that originated in early 18th century France, is a savoury or sweet dish made from egg yolks and beaten egg whites with other ingredients such as puree from fruit, vegetable or seafood added to it to give it various flavours and it is then baked until it puffed up . The word souffle is from the French word "souffler" which means "to puff", "to blow", "to swell" or "to inflate".

Sweet Potato Rosti with Chicken Karaage - MYR 24 nett. I ate all the kailan vege and two pieces of chicken while keeping the rest for dinner. The chicken skin is very crispy and not oily at all so I ate them all. The chicken meat is tender and juicy.

My friend ordered Pomodoro Pasta with Deep Fried Seabass - MYR 20 nett. Pomodoro sauce is a special tomato sauce prepared with fresh chopped tomatoes, olive oil, basil and other herbs. The seabass is fresh with a very tasty crispy skin. I would like to have this dish next time just for the fish but one third the amount of pasta.

Deep fried Mac and Cheese with Plum Salsa on top, and Pomodoro Sauce with a side of Onion Omelette - MYR 20 nett. I believe the Mac and Cheese compressed into a block and deep fried should be quite a heavy meal.

Total price for lunch is MYR 83 nett (3 pax).

Bright interior.

Skylight allowing sunshine in but not the rain.

Can you see the name - Catcher in the Rye? I wonder why choose the name of the famous story by J.D. Salinger to be the name of this cafe which is located in Section 17, PJ.

  1. My top choice would go to the Sweet Potato Rosti with Chicken Karaage. I like deep fried food so I think I will enjoy the deep fried mac and cheese too.

The interior looks so minimalist, I like! It is nice and fun exploring and trying new and different food places with friends.

    1. I don't think there is copyright on book titles because there are many books in the library or book stores having exactly the same title.
