Lai Lai Desserts

Recently I have been eating at a simple desserts shop that serves very affordable deep fried Chinese pastries like "Ham Chim Peng, Ma Keok, Kap Choong, Yau Char Koay (Cantonese)", economy mee hoon (with or without curry chicken), congee and "tong sui" (literally means sugar water). I have make it a point to only go there once a week because too much deep fried food and sweet food is not good for me - I have to remind myself.

Red bean "tong sui" - not that sweet. Black glutinous rice "tong sui" - this is sweeter - costs MYR2.40 each. You can ask for a smaller bowl of "tong sui" that costs MYR1.50 only.

Two sweet "Ham Chim Peng" with red bean fillings, one "Kap Choong" (the one with glutinous rice in the middle) and one "Ma Keok" (literally means Horse Hoof - the one with the sesame seeds on it). Each costs MYR0.90 only.  Apart from the above, they also sell savoury "Ham Chim Peng" (flavoured with 5 spices) and "Yau Char Koay".

The "Ham Chim Peng" with red bean fillings.

The default is they will cut up whatever you ordered into smaller pieces like in the above photo. Request them not to do it if you prefer to eat it while it is whole. The above photo shows one Kap Choong, one Ham Chim Peng and one sesame glutinous ball with red bean fillings (also MYR0.90).

Plain economy mee hoon costs MYR2.50 per plate and chicken potatoes curry costs an additional MYR1.50 only.

Lai Lai Desserts is located along Jalan Tuanku 4, Salak South Garden and it is closed on Mondays. Prices are nett and payments in cash only. Opening hours: 10.30am to 6pm (Tue to Sun).

    1. Yes new. Open about a year ago. Used to be just a makeshift stall selling the same items near Fatty Mok Yong Tau Fu. You are really familiar with this place. I know the duck and pisang goreng stalls you mentioned. I buy fried ubi kayu balls from the pisang goreng stall.

  6. Kap choong is my favourite too!! I love the glutinous rice in the middle :) And the fried meehoon with curry is making me drool. I have a weakness for all these and it's a good thing I don't have access to them now or I will surely indulge and become fat haha!
