Hong Bao

This year, it seems that red CNY packets are not handed out freely by supermarkets without any conditions. Spending above MYR 100 only got us one, just one pack of the above 6 ang pow envelopes in 3 colours: red, orangey red and emerald green with the words:
永旺 (Yǒng wàng) - forever prosperous
如意 (Rú yì) - as per your wishes
迎春 (Yíng chūn) - welcome the spring

Do you buy CNY packets or do you get them free from supermarkets or restaurants or via any other channels?

  1. I like to collect CNY packets so I buy them, just cannot resist, but this year I try not to buy cos it is such a waste if we are not using them.

Of the 3 colours above, I like orangey red

  2. Lovely! Not celebrating again this year, last year was because of my dad's passing and this year, it has not been a year since my mum passed away.

  3. Wow...RM100 for only one of the packets. Seems a bit steep. :)

Well...I will buy if the designs are really attractive.

    1. Don't think can get any from banks this year because no time to go there and they are closed on weekends.

  5. Usually it is the case over here. No free ang pows. Need to buy something and they give according to the amount you spend.

Nice ang pow pack you have here. I got mine last week, from Parkson. Still waiting for my hubby to pass to me from his bank. Hehehe.

  7. I have bought 2 rounds of red packets this year. They looked more fun than what banks are giving out as piggy is a no-no for their prints.

  9. I've never buy red packets. I have so much left from previous years. I noticed it is getting rarer to get complimentary red packets from shopping malls and corporate clients.

  10. I usually get the angpows from the banks or from friends, etc. I still have plenty from previous years in my drawer.

  11. Free things we used to take for granted aren't so easy to get these days. Besides angpow packets, also calendars and diaries.
