This black tofu tastes like normal tofu with no special flavour.
Even the inside is grey. I did not ask why it is grey and black.
This is the usual dessert served. One bowl each.
We ordered the MYR48.80++ (MYR56.90 nett) set meal.
Seeing this offer at MYR6.80++ (MYR7.90 nett), I ordered one bottle to try.
Ready-to-drink Bird's Nest & Lavender. The Lavender taste needs some getting used to.
The Bird's Nest feels like jelly.
Something very different and special in this beancurd...
ReplyDeleteOnly the colour is different. The taste is the same.
DeleteI guess that is bak kut teh. Not really a fan, will eat sometimes for a change and these days, I go for the dry version. Some nice ones around here. You didn't ask why is the tofu black? Charcoal, like those buns? They don't taste any different either, just the colour.
ReplyDeleteAlmost RM60 for two....hmmmm...I was "scolded" (well, that was the impression I got from how she spoke) that day for always blogging about a place and she thinks it is so expensive - post on that coming up soon.
No, the pork in the claypot is not bak kut teh. The pork is cooked with a Chinese herb called yu zhu - Solomon's seal and another herb dang sheng - codonopsis pilosula root. Taste totally different from the herbs used in bak kut teh. No I didn't ask about the tofu colour. Who scolded you? You can write whatever you want. It is your blog. No one has the right to scold you. Can't wait to read your post about it.
DeleteLavender in bird's nest. Hmm.
ReplyDeleteWow. I know you are not a big eater so you must be very hungry to be able to finish a bowl of rice.
Yes, I was very, very hungry that day.
DeleteOkay ah... RM 48++ for 2 with soup and 3 other dishes and dessert some more, quite worth it I think.
ReplyDeleteLavender bird's nest? Hmm... Hmm hmm hmm... Don't they have original flavor?
I think they have original flavour but the offer price is only for the lavender flavour.
DeleteI came across charcoal tofu in some places. I am not sure if you had this same version.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed eating bird nests in Bangkok. Some years back my wife told me that the real TCM says there is no benefits from bird nests. I was taken aback after seeing so much goodness reviews.
I drink it only as a dessert, didn't even think about whether it is good for health or not.
DeleteA friend told us that his wealthy mother's face is flawless like porcelain because she eats bird nests every morning!!!
DeleteMaybe his mother is born with a flawless complexion so even when not eating bird nests will still be very beautiful.
DeleteThe tofu looks like it is wrapped in seaweed. Birds nest is better original flavor. I don't like lavender makes me pening LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe tofu does look like it is wrapped in seaweed. Ya, the lavender taste takes some getting used to.
Deletethat black tofu is charcoal tofu? nowadays they hav charcoal buns...so I think it applies on tofu too...lol!
ReplyDeleteNo idea whether it is charcoal or just squid ink but don't care lah, as long as edible and taste good, gasak only, hehehe.
DeleteThe tofu looks weird, but I wouldn't mind if it taste the same as normal tofu. I think I prefer the original bird nest flavour. The dessert looks good.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you would mind because it does taste the same as normal tofu. The original bird nest flavour does not have a promotional price. The jelly lemon grass dessert is refreshing so it is good.
DeleteTofu maybe coloured with charcoal powder. Your meal looks decent enough but guess it's only around for a limited period.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you are right about the charcoal powder but why? Yes, this meal is only until end of May if I am not mistaken.
