Steak and Cheese pie

I don't think I have eaten any food at Starbucks before and I seldom patronise this franchise but yesterday I spent nearly 8 hours waiting for my relative to be discharged from the hospital so when my companion said she wanted lunch at this place, I said ok. On a side note, the surgery and 9 days of hospital stay totaled up to MYR35k. A very high cost for those not covered by insurance but due to the long queue at public hospitals, there is little choice but to go for private treatment especially when one wants to live. Ok, back to the food.

The so-called pie - normal price is about MYR9.90 but since my companion ordered a drink, the promotion price for this pie is only MYR5++  (+6% government tax) so I ordered one.

Quite a thin pie with shortcrust pastry.

With noticeable beef slices but not much cheese taste.

This is the Starbucks outlet

  1. Last night my son was blessed with a free drink... picked at random when he went to pay for his drink.... so the next time he purchased a drink, it will be free... Will tell him to try this cheese pie..

  2. I have never eaten any food in Starbucks too, but just drinks.. and in fact, I rarely go to Starbucks since I'm not a coffee lover.. and as much as I find the drinks quite "unaffordable", I don't go for brands or lifestyle but a "teh cina ais" in a kopitiam would settle for me, hahahaha!!!

    well, so how's the pie??

    1. I don't even go to Starbucks for drinks for many years already. The pie is just passable, can eat if you can't think of anything else to eat.

  3. I'm not too fond of Starbucks as I'd mostly go for coffee, but find most of their drinks too milky for my liking.

    1. I am not sure whether you can request them to put less milk into your drinks or not.

  5. Not fond of anything at Starbucks, not even the coffee...and expensive some more. I prefer the coffee at Coffee Bean...and I love their all-day breakfast plus all the coffee you can drink.

  6. I've had a few brunches at Starbucks before. I tried their shepherd's pie, chicken and mushroom pie and carrot cake before. The food is nothing very delectable, and quite expensive, but I was too lazy to get breakfast at some other place then come here for a quiet coffee..

    1. Seems like you only eat here if you have no other choices.

  7. I, too, have never eaten anything at Starbucks other than the doughnut. It's a doughnut and coffee when I need a quick breakfast. I do agree with The Yum List that the coffees here are milkier (and sweeter)...that's probably why they appeal to the vast majority of Malaysians but for those who are after the real coffee taste, they'd prefer those from the popular breakfast/brunch cafes.

  13. Yes, the cost of private hospital is rising by the minute. My mom-in-law just got discharged on sunday. A night's stay and the bill came to RM2200!

  14. Very scary to go to private hospital. Every time they look at you, the bill goes up.

That's a strange shape of pie!

    1. Everytime the specialist visits the patient, the bill goes up of course. I also don't know why this pie is shaped this way.

  15. I frequent Starbucks to meet friends instead for convenience.
Their food is pricey and so so but the chocolate cake is the best I have eaten! The pies are all good enough to keep me full as I am not fussy with food.
