Yuzu Parfait

I shared this Yuzu Parfait (MYR23.80 nett) with my friends at Nana Green Tea eatery. Yuzu is a citrus fruit that looks somewhat like a yellowish mandarin orange with a unique fragrant taste which I like when I ate it in Kyoto so that is why I bought this parfait to eat. The many layers are (from bottom to top):
1. Yuzu jam sauce with slices of yuzu peel and small cubes of yuzu jelly in it. The sauce has the nice Yuzu fragrance so it tastes good.
2. Vanilla ice cream is quite sweet.
3. Corn flakes to give it a different texture, a crunchy texture
4. Two bigger cubes of warabimochi which is a jelly like cube made from bracken starch. Bracken starch is made from the rhizomes (underground stems) of bracken which is a large fern. I prefer the warabimochi I ate in Kyoto which is more refreshing whereas this texture is more gooey.
5. A big white ball of Yuzu sorbet. This is the best, gives very refreshing taste. I wish they would just sell this Yuzu sorbet on its own.
6. A smaller brown ball of Shiro-an which is a sweet white bean paste made from white kidney beans. I don't quite like this paste because it tastes just sweet to me, without any other taste.
7. Whipped cream at the top drizzled with Yuzu sauce.

Overall, this dessert is very sweet so unless you have a very sweet tooth, it is best to share this with more than one friend.

Nana has monthly special sweets and special food menu. Please click the above for a bigger image to read the food items for the June's special.

This month, they have Yuzu citrus specials and I chose to have the parfait instead of the hot cakes (pancakes). I wonder what specials will they have for July.

  4. By any name, that's called a "tall glass of nicely decorated ice cream" to me. At RM 23.80, that's too expensive to share with a friend, unless if the word girl is attached in front of it. :/

    1. If you are interested in any single girl who likes to eat dessert, bring her to eat this and if she shares it with you that means she likes you too, hehehehe! ;p

  5. That's a very attractive looking dessert. If it is very sweet, then I'll give it a miss.

    1. Nah, you can handle this level of sweetness with no problem as attest by the fact that you eat desserts alone for lunch, hehehehe. ;p

  7. The dessert looks really delicious but if it is very sweet, then I better not go for it.

  9. Nice! I just had this for lunch today at a Japanese restaurant. Yummy! xoxo

  10. Since you enjoy Yuzu (the fruit) so much, you'd probably enjoy Yuzu (the Japanese restaurant) as I'd think some of their citrus sauce will involve yuzu in some way? ;)

    1. Haha, yes, I will definitely eat at Yuzu the next time I visit KLCC. I can't even remember when was the last time I was in KLCC.

  11. This kind of 'tall' dessert is hard to share. Poke-poke too much and things start falling down. The 'flat' ones, e.g. banana split, are easier.

Seems like there are quite a few components that you don't like. :)

    2. Hahaha. Actually I'm wary about sharing with non-family. Used to worry that people might not want to 'share saliva' so I fastidiously make sure take clean spoon and whatnot. End up now maybe *I* am the fussy one!

    3. I also only share with family lah so you are not the fussy one.

  12. Agree with you. Usually for this kind of dessert, I'll order one to be shared among the 4 of us. There is no way we can finish everything alone. Sometimes, even with the 4 of us we still can't finish it.
