Once in a while

It is time for cakes again after 6 months.

3 slices of cakes and a drink to share for 3

A glass of ice blended cappuccino - MYR10.50 nett. Taste fine at the start but at the end, the last mouthfuls are just like watered down syrup.

Each slice of cake costs MYR8.80 nett so Secret Recipe cakes are still considered affordable compared to a slice of millicrepe which costs MYR12.50 min. My favourite is this slice of black forest cake with its chocolate cake layers moistened by the cherry sauce with cherries that are a bit sourish. Tasty so I will order it again.

Moist chocolate cake. The cake part could be more moist unless eaten with the chocolate ganache which is very sweet. There is a layer of coffee toffee sauce in the middle. A sweet cake best eaten with black coffee.

Blueberry cheese cake. Could do without the outer layer of whipped cream. Not cheesy enough for me.

  1. Have not been for a while but the last time I dropped by the outlet here, the cakes did not seem as nice as before but yes, theirs are cheaper (and bigger) than some of those coffee and cake places. I've been boycotting it here as they charge RM1 more for the drinks - not so bad if they charge more for the cakes and the food. In the end, the drinks cost more than the cakes, so ridiculous.

    1. Maybe they have revised the prices to be the same as here since the last time you dropped by their outlet.

  2. Yeah, my favorite is also their black forest cake! I never really liked their cheesecake to be honest. Maybe you could try their... hmm, signature cheesecake or NY cheesecake huh... that would be more cheesy. In fact too cheesy for me. Made me feel cloying...

    1. I have eaten their signature cheesecake and also their NY cheesecake and I prefer to have some fruit flavours with the cheesecakes so I will either buy the blueberries or strawberries cheese cakes.

  3. Their cakes are still nice with quality. Just the prices are getting stiffer.

Do you know that they rolled out from their mothers' La Manila Cafe in Taman Megah? Go there sometimes, their cakes, many pastry pies and prices will make you happier.

    1. But their prices are still ok after I have seen how much cakes cost at bakeries like TK, RT pastry and etc. I have been to La Manila Cafe in Taman Megah back in the 1990s and found their cakes to be very, very rich. Now I eat cakes when it is convenient and that is when I am doing my grocery shopping so I never just drive out to a special place just to eat cakes.

    1. I didn't purposely wait for 6 months lah. You don't have to buy any more cakes to eat since you bake so many tasty cakes yourself and your cakes taste much better than theirs anyway.

  10. Back in 'those' days, SR was considered expensive! A slice like that looks so tempting.

    1. Now cakes in cafes are way more expensive and the cakes in normal bakeries like TK are just as expensive as SR.
