Yomie Rice Yogurt

Yesterday, Mon 5.apr.21, we decided to go to Midvalley Mall to buy food.

I bought this cold rice yogurt drink and drop it off for my friend.

These 3 photos are from my friend. I selected Hawthorn fruits, purple rice and yogurt without any sugar. The review is that there is the smell of Hawthorn fruits which smells like asam boi but it is not sourish. The texture is foamy and would taste better if it is a bit sweet since I requested for all sugar to be omitted.

Foamy so the texture is not like cold porridge which is more dense.

This is the Yomie stall in Gardens Mall. I took this photo back in Feb 2020 but it started business operations in Dec 2019. The brand is from Australia. You can read more about this drink stall at this url

The price for one drink is enough for a meal or two meals depending on where one is having the meal. It costs MYR 15.70 nett for this yogurt rice drink so I am still not sure whether or not I want to buy one to try it for myself.

A paper bag for the drink.

*** Brunch dine-in-2021 #3 at Ah Cheng Laksa, Midvalley Mall on Mon 5.apr.21 ***

10.47 am - our brunch at Ah Cheng Laksa. The small portion of assam laksa is mine and I asked for Mee hoon. It was very satisfying to eat this sourish bowl of Mee hoon assam laksa but I didn't drink the broth. I also ate some of the chicken rendang nasi lemak and tasted the cham hot drink. The rendang gravy has lots of mashed ginger in it which is tasty but I prefer the rendang gravy to be less sweet. Total price is about MYR 20.90 nett and they accept payments using many types of e-wallet.

Only one table was occupied by one solo diner when we were placing our order at the cashier counter.

Shared dinner by 2 pax at home at 5.30 pm - we bought takeaway fish curry nasi Dagang from Upeh, Midvalley Mall via Foodpanda and picked it up ourselves to get 20% off so the price is MYR 14.32 nett which is a very good price. Lower than if we dined in for the same meal. Very convenient too, no need to wait for them to prepare the food.

A savings of MYR 3.58 nett.

*** Pick up food from Upeh on Wed 17.mar.21 ***

5.47 pm - another one of our pickup food from Upeh. Nasi Kerabu Royal at MYR 17.44 nett after the pickup discount.

*** Pick up food from Upeh on Thu 11.mar.21 ***

12.41 noon - Le Medina Pilau Rice from Upeh at MYR 15.12 nett after pickup discount.

Include a whole chicken leg.

Savings of MYR 3.78 nett.

*** Not my dine-in-2021 at Warung, Midvalley Mall on Wed 24.mar.21 ***

Warung has set meals now for breakfast and lunch with good prices.

His brunch at 11.36 am. Good value for money at MYR 16.50 nett only for nasi lemak fried chicken, coffee and a piece of deep fried vegetable fritter.

He ate all of these food because I don't want to remove my mask since I have eaten a heavy breakfast at home before so he was very full after that.

Vegetable fritter and hot coffee.

Swee Hing Rojak

Swee Hing coffee shop in Sri Petaling is one of the coffee shops I go to every week to buy takeaway food.

On the right of this photo is the Rojak stall of Swee Hing coffee shop.

It is operated by a teenager.

These are the ingredients.

I usually asked for no sotong.

Tofu, potatoes, coconut fritters are part of the ingredient.

Sometimes I asked for no gravy. The gravy is sweetish peanut gravy. The bag contains raw beansprouts, julienned cucumbers and jicama.

No peanut gravy this time.

Because I have remaining curry gravy from another meal in the fridge.

Once I requested for no cut so the fritter, tofu and coconut fritter are not cut into slices. I buy this Rojak almost weekly. The price is between MYR 6 to 7 nett.

Mr Wu Sri Petaling Pick-up

I am curious after reading PH's article about Mr. Wu in Uptown and her delivery order so when I found out that there is a Mr. Wu in Sri Petaling, I placed my order via Foodpanda and on my way home, I picked up my order.

Chòu Tofu is popular due to its very, very crispiness. It isn't suitable for takeaway orders if the crispiness cannot be maintained.

I didn't buy extra sauce. The sauce given is garlic sweet sauce with lots of minced garlic in it.

Acceptable but different from the good ones I have eaten in Taiwan because this pickled cabbage is sweet whereas the pickled cabbage I ate in Taiwan is sourish.

The smell is there but not that strong. The smell didn't linger in my house like the smell of durian.

The way to eat this Chòu Tofu and to enjoy it is to eat it immediately when it is still crispy with the pickled cabbage. Put lots of both in the mouth and chew. This way, we will only feel the very crispiness and the blended taste of tofu and cabbage, won't taste the smelliness at all. Not to nibble at the tofu slowly.

Small portions of jiao zi aka dumplings. They are Beijing style jiao zi so don't expect them to have thin skins like Wantons or Cantonese style sui gao.

There are only two types of fillings available: meat with leeks or meat with cabbage. I bought a small portion of 5 each. They didn't specify which type of fillings are in the fried jiaozi which I ordered a small portion also.

Passable only. The skin is not thick and due to being a takeaway order, the skin has kind of dried up and is a bit hard. Tasty jiaozi has thick doughy soft skin with juicy fillings. The fillings of these jiaozi are a bit on the salty side.

Oyster pancake. I also didn't buy extra sauce so I was given a sweetish slightly orange sauce which I don't know what it is though I have used up all the sauce because I didn't want to keep the sauce in my fridge.

I like this pancake because unlike those oyster oh jian in Taiwan that has those translucent gooey chewy qq flour, this pancake is just a normal pancake with firm flour, eggs, vegetable and oysters. I am not sure what vegetables were in this pancake.

This Mr Wu oyster pancake is not the authentic Taiwan oyster pancake aka Taiwan oh jian. But I prefer this one rather than the authentic ones.

This braised minced meat rice with crispy chicken chop is the winner because it is loaded with ingredients and has a very good affordable price - only MYR 16.90 nett for ala carte. I didn't order the set meal which includes a beverage.

This meal has a piece of chicken chop, minced lean pork which I like, braised egg and tofu, sausage, rice and cabbage. Two of us shared this meal for lunch at 12.34 noon.

7 packs for 6 items.

They arranged all 7 packs neatly into a plastic bag and put this bag on a table at the entrance of the shop to be collected. No staff in sight so I just took it. I wonder what if someone else took it instead. They should have at least a staff to check that the right person collected the order.

My order of 6 items. The list price on food panda is a bit higher than the dine in menu I believe so for self pickup, a 15% discount is given so instead of MYR 71.70,  the total price is only MYR 60.94 nett.

The shop with the yellow sign board is Mr. Wu eatery. There are many Grabfood and Food Panda riders waiting outside the eatery to collect their orders to be delivered to their customers.

The receipt that was stapled to the plastic bag. The discounted amount is MYR 10.76 nett. I can understand why Mr. Wu is a popular eatery. It is because the main meals provide good value for money and are tasty. Similar restaurants charge more for the main meals.

Top Ten

one for you and one for me. These ice cream sticks are a no fuss cool-u-down method on a hot day. The chocolate coating has pieces of peanuts embedded in it so not for those with a peanut allergy. The fillings are either vanilla or chocolate.

MYR 32.4 for a total of 18 Top Ten ice cream so it is MYR 1.80 nett for one stick. Vanilla or chocolate fillings for you?

Both ice creams are made in Thailand.

NKT Sotong King

Yesterday, Thu 1.apr.21, we went for our weekly grocery shopping at the Midvalley Mall from about 10.30 am to 1.30 pm. We bought takeaway lunch from Nasi Kukus Tonggek kiosk in Aeon Food Court for my friend.

My friend took this photo for me when eating the big squid at 2.40 pm. The deep fried squid rice that costs MYR 18.90 nett consists of rice, cucumbers, deep fried squid, sambal and curry gravy.

I also bought a side order of deep fried tempe in salted egg yolk gravy snack at MYR 7.90 nett for my friend. The salted egg yolk gravy tastes a bit sweet and not strong on the salted egg yolk, barely detectable. The tempe is very firm and tastes like brown dao ban jiang. The usual dao ban jiang is made from fermented broad beans, chili peppers, soybeans, salt and flour.

5.07 pm - both of us shared this big squid rice for our dinner. Since we have given our spicy sambal to my friend, we poured all the sweetish curry gravy over the squid to cover the deep fried oil taste. The squid can be easily chewed because my friend suspects that it has been soaked in baking soda aka bicarbonate of soda to tenderize it.

Total price for two big squid rice and one snack is MYR 45.70 nett.

This is the lunch queue at the NKT kiosk at Aeon Food Court, Midvalley Mall to collect the already paid dine-in orders at 1.09 pm. No queue at the cashier counter at the right of this photo. Seems that they are still quite popular.

*** Brunch dine-in-2021 #2 at Mak's Chee, Midvalley Mall ***

10.54 am - a small bowl of beef brisket and tendon noodle in soup at MYR 14.90++ and a big bowl of 6 Wantons and 3 sui gao aka dumplings at MYR 22.90++ because a small bowl wouldn't be enough for both of us since I like to eat the Wantons and dumplings of this eatery

The beef tendon has a lot of slippery membranes covering it which makes me a bit queasy to eat it as these membranes are usually removed for beef tendons served in my favourite beef noodle restaurant Yong Kang in Taipei. A normal eater would find the small bowl of noodles to be too little but I like the small portion size because it leaves me room in my stomach for Wantons and dumplings.

10.57 am - A small portion of luncheon meat lard rice at MYR 14.90++ which is just rice fried in light lard oil since not much lard taste and definitely no deep fried lard aka ju yao zhar in the rice. I ate a bit of the fried egg white since I don't eat runny yolks, a bit of rice, a piece of cucumber and a piece of luncheon meat which is very tasty.

Shared this milk tea in ice at MYR 8.50++ before he asked me to drink it all because he tastes milk at the bottom.

Total price is MYR 71 nett, a bit over our brunch budget but a very satisfying Brunch so it was worth the price but maybe not worth the risk if we catch anything. At 10.38 am, there was only one table occupied so we went in to dine in. At 11.30 am, when we went to pay our bill, there were 3 tables occupied by customers. Hopefully we didn't catch anything.

The names of the dishes in chinese characters in the order slip.

Matcha Flan Cupcakes

On Mon 29.mar.21, at 7 pm, this box of dessert was delivered.

A box of 6 at MYR 45 nett. They are home based at Ara Damansara so the delivery fees by Lalamove is MYR 28 nett.

Side view - the matcha cupcake at the bottom is in a dark cupcake holder.

Top view - flan is similar to an egg custard with a layer of caramel on top. I taste egg but he tastes condensed milk for the flan so he doesn't want to eat this dessert. I didn't drop by my friend's place so I couldn't give them any so I am eating one a day and two on day 1. Will be cleared on Saturday.

Side view - after removing the cupcake holder to show the matcha cupcake which is made from Niko Neko Matcha. This high quality matcha will convert people who dislike artificial matcha favours into matcha lovers.

Cross section - the center matcha ganache has solidified because I just took it out from the fridge. This matcha Flan cupcake is sweet, eggy, milky, soft and a bit sticky so luckily it is quite small so one a day is just nice as dessert.

I read this piece on insta and ordered a box of 6 because the description sounded so delicious. Currently they are on a break and will not be selling any items until further notice.
