Larb Burger

The last time I ate at S.Wine was in 2014 at Publika Mall. Nearly 3 years on, we celebrated a co-worker's birthday during lunch time at S.Wine Cafe in Tropicana City Mall. This restaurant is more spacious and has more greenery in it than the one in Publika so I prefer the ambiance here.

Larb Burger Lunch Set at MYR19.90 nett. It includes fries, coleslaw and a hot or cold ice lemon tea. I chose a glass of cold ice lemon tea and was pleased to see that the drink is not from a premix packet drink but a glass of tea with lemon slices in it with the syrup served separately by default without needing customers to request for it to be served separately. I prefer my ice lemon tea to be not sweet at all so I did not use any of the syrup. A small glass of plain water was also given foc.

Side view of the burger

A nicely charred pork patty and bun with Thai basil so if you don't like this herb remember not to order this burger.

Cross section of the juicy patty. There is a special green slightly spicy sauce slathered on the bun beneath the patty.

As I could not finish my lunch set, I took half of it home for dinner in my trusted container.

This was the lunch set menu a few months ago. I wonder whether it is still the same menu now.

What is a Larb Burger? Here on the ala carte menu, it says "Thai inspired minced pork patties with Asian herbs and spices in brioche bun".

  3. Hmmm...you are really a very small eater. That burger appears small to me and I would probably have space for more food after that hee..hee...

  6. This is so weird and unique to put basil inside the burger. I love basils anyway.

    1. I forgot to reply that Larb is actually a common Thai word for Laotian meat salad which is a national dish of Laos. They probably played with the words in the menu and said it is "Thai inspired"....

I was always a fool to drive all the way to Publika to eat when their less crowded branch at Tropicana is less than 5 minutes from my home, without any tolls!!!! Ha ha ha!

    2. thank you for explaining what larb means. this coming from you, a Thai expert means a lot. i believe you like the ambiance in tropicana more than publika if you go there more often now that you know it is so near your home.

  7. The description still makes no sense to me. Unless they mean Larb is a Thai pronunciation. At first I thought it was a typo for Lard. As in pork lard. :/

Or maybe it is lard + basil, hence larb?? :/

    1. if you google the word larb you will find the results include larb salad and larb cuisine so larb is a valid word in a certain language.
