There are two routes - City and Beach and I took both routes as I did not hop off during any of the routes. The City route took about 2 hours (if there is no traffic congestion) and the Beach route took about 2 and a half hours. The first bus starts from Gurney Drive at 9 am and I bought my ticket on the bus.
The 24 hours ticket for me costs MYR19 nett.
View of hanging lanterns from below
Spotted a quadricycle.
The beach route goes all the way up to Teluk Bahang Dam.
Seems fun and interesting, better with aircon if not cannot tahan the heat
ReplyDeleteHalf of the top deck is with aircon.
DeleteI ever tried trishaw at Malacca, it was fun and windy, I like
ReplyDeleteThere are trishaw rides in Penang too.
DeleteSo the tickets have standard and ????
ReplyDeleteMykad price is for locals.
DeleteWent on one in London - to get to all the sights. I sure would like to hop on one in Penang. I think there is a free one in KL city centre - is it still running? Not a double decker, a hop on hop off bus. Have not heard of it for a while now.
ReplyDeleteP.S.
DeleteOh my English!!! Penang too?
There is a free bus service in KL called "Go KL City Bus" - http://www.gokl.com.my/ - Maybe I will try it one day and see whether the KL traffic jam is terrible or not.
DeleteFor Penang, there is a free bus service for CAT (Central Area Transit). The route can be seen here:

I took that bus a few years back, it is not a double decker bus.
Thanks. Gotta bookmark these, may come in handy one day.
DeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteI would do that too. Enjoying the route in a bus. I am sure my kids would agree too.
ReplyDeleteFun to do that because we don't have to drive and suffer the traffic.
DeleteWhen I see Hoho, I thought you wana talk about steamboat.. Hoho's steamboat very popular ma.. I enjoy this HOHO also, am sure if I take the kids along, they'll be thrilled..
ReplyDeleteIs Hoho Steamboat still around? I didn't keep track of them as I seldom eat steamboat.
DeleteYes, riding on the bus is fun for children and adults alike.
Ah, this makes me miss traveling.
ReplyDeleteAny plans to travel this year?
DeleteHuh? You paid RM 29 and captured only these photos? Er...
ReplyDeleteI paid MYR19 nett only for both routes (not MYR29). I have more photos but don't want to clog up this post.
DeleteThat's the best way to enjoy a ride. You did not hop off? I would probably do that too, just relax and enjoy the ride.
ReplyDeleteNo I did not hop off at any of the stops. Only got off the bus for the city route to get onto the bus for the beach route.
DeleteWas it good? Would you recommend for a family with 2 teenagers for this?
ReplyDeleteYes, if you are not keen to drive around in Penang to visit the major sites and not keen to take the local public buses. More value to buy the 48 hours ticket if you plan to hop on and off for the beach route.
Deletegood that there is finally a HOHO tourist bus in Penang, I guess it makes going about places in the city more convenient and easy.. only RM19 with MyKad is not expensive, is there a tour guide onboard telling stories of the places??
ReplyDeleteThere are services personnel on board who sell tickets and also are knowledgeable enough to talk to you and tell you stories about the places if you have any questions.
DeleteWow you really went the full tourist route. Nice prices for locals.
ReplyDeleteCuti cuti m'sia mah! :)
DeleteI hope I have a chance to try it out in Penang or in KL. I prefer local tours.
ReplyDeleteIf you have a car to travel around in then no need to take hoho.
