WG Medifoods Lontong

From the new menu of Medifoods, I wanted to try Lontong and Mee Rebus but so far, I have only managed to try Lontong at MYR 16.90 nett but with the discount card, the price is MYR 15.21 nett. They do not have compressed rice (nasi himpit) so I chose mee hoon. The broth/gravy is very creamy but does not taste like coconut milk. I did not ask them what they use but I am guessing that they may have used cashew nuts by blending them to get the creaminess. I may ask them next time but the staff are always very busy.

There are a lot of mee hoon so I kept half and all the gravy/broth for dinner and at dinner time, I drank all the creamy broth - so delicious!

My friends like to order the Vege Mushroom Teh at MYR 15.21 nett after discount which is the vegetarian version of bak kut teh but I don't feel tempted to try it. I prefer creamy broth although I am fine with herbal broth too.

After having Lontong, I visited Medifoods a few more times, almost once a week but I always ended up having the set lunch because that is the fastest to be served and I am reluctant to wait for the noodles to be cooked so I have not tried mee rebus yet.

Daily Lunch Set at MYR 12.42 nett. Additional portion of dishes costs MYR 2.80 nett each. I like this beancurd sweet and sour dish.

Another visit, another daily Lunch Set at MYR 12.42 nett again. I like the choy tam dish and the spinach (por choy) dish.

My friend ordered one of her regular noodles which I also do not feel tempted to try - Bayam mushroom flat skin noodles soup at MYR 15.21 nett after discount. This is the vegetarian version of hand torn pan mee. The portion is more than what is shown in this photo because my friend has eaten half before I took the photo. They give a lot of bayam (yin choy).

Another visit, another daily Lunch Set at MYR 12.42 nett again. When I asked, they told me that one of the dish I took is Kau Kei choy but when I ate it, I felt that it is more like Tin Chat choy (Tian Qi leaves).

I also bought a loaf of bread from Medifoods. The price is MYR 8.30 nett but with the discount, it is only MYR 7.90 nett. It seems that Adventist 7 grains sprouted bread has a new look.

Hawker Chan

On our way to Penang, we stopped by Ipoh. I wanted to try the fish noodle that Nancy wrote about here: Kopitiam Huan Le (corner shop), Lorong Taman 11, First Garden (Taman Pertama), Ipoh with off day on Mondays. It is the stall next to the wall  - only for breakfast.

As I reached Ipoh after 2 pm, I could not try the fish noodles as it is only for breakfast so I went to the next best thing - Hawker Chan, the Ipoh-Born Chef Who Won A Michelin Star to taste his famous chicken rice.

As we don't go to Ipoh often, we try as many dishes as the 4 of us can eat. I requested for one rice to be without gravy. All of us like the braised soy beans that they serve with the rice.

More food. The suen lat choy (sweet spicy hot vege) was too sweet. All of us like the taste of the sweet soy roasted chicken so we will be back as we have parking coupons left.

Total bill is MYR 56.80 nett, a good price.

Price is ok

Better buy one whole chicken than half a chicken.

I expected the eatery to be bigger so I was surprise to see it to be this small.

Storefront - Hawker Chan, Ipoh.

Soylab Soyffle Pancake

Soylab Signature Soyffle Pancake at MYR 22 nett. There are 5 types but we ordered this one because we wanted to try the soft serve soy ice cream as well.

After reading the review here posted on April 2019, I was expecting the inside of the pancake to be wet and soggy with the centre almost raw but to my pleasant surprise, that was not the case. I guess maybe the shop also read the review and did something about it.

Compared to the two souffle pancakes that I have eaten so far, this soyffle pancake has a texture that is closer to a cake and it is sweet on its own unlike the previous two. It is moist and soft with a fine texture and more dense. I am ok with the texture but I don't like that it tastes sweet. It should be just very slightly sweet for the toppings to give it the sweetness. Now that it, itself is sweet, the toppings will make it sweeter. This pancake is made with soy and not milk.

Please click on the above menu for a larger image to view the 5 types of pancakes.

Black sesame beancurd at MYR 7.50 nett.

Soy shaved ice - MYR 14 nett.

Side view. A bigger bowl would be better for me so that I don't need to be so careful to ensure that the ice does not topple over.

Currently they only have one type of soy shaved ice.

We were given 3 different types of syrup.

Brown sugar syrup, Palm sugar syrup and homemade sugar syrup. The different taste is very apparent. I prefer the taste of brown sugar syrup the most.

Follow them?

Desserts for 3 pax: MYR 43.50 nett so it is MYR 14.50 nett per pax. Not too expensive.

Soylab at Damansara Uptown, a few shops away from Molten Chocolate Cafe.

PH mentioned this Hotcake cafe in Uptown when commenting on the souffle pancakes. Thanks to her, I know exactly where it is located because she said it is near the Ship.

Their pancakes or hotcakes do look very nice from the photos.

Unfortunately the whole cafe was without any customers so it was not very inviting so I went to eat the soyffle pancakes instead.

This Hotcake is relocated from the one at Sri Petaling. Source of above photo: Hotcake fb. Posted on 4 June 2019. Same role (sic) with The Ship, Uptown. Should be row.

McD Portuguese Chicken Burger

The official McD description: "A crispy chicken patty, served with mixed vegetables and a whole leaf lettuce, sandwiched between two chili-flaked buns and a special Portuguese sauce".

McD Hp App Offer: Two for One: Buy 2 Portuguese Chicken Burgers at MYR 13.20+ (6% SST = MYR 13.99 nett) ala carte price of one.

I can confirm that there is one whole leaf lettuce. The sauce is spicy but not too spicy since I can stand it. Overall the taste reminds me of the coconut fritters in rojak so I guess it is because the coconut taste is strong in the sauce.

The crispy chicken patty is one whole deboned chicken thigh with skin. Can you spot the chicken skin in the photo above? I managed to spit only half the skin out so I won't be eating this burger again due to the chicken skin though the taste is quite nice. Verdict: A decent chicken burger for those who like to eat chicken chop from chicken thigh meat and spicy rich coconut sauce.

Bonfire Cash Only Set Lunch

I intended to try the salmon on toast dish that PH wrote about here but I could not find it on the menu of the restaurant. Guess they must have changed their menu so my friend and I ordered the salmon dish from their set lunch menu below.

I chose dessert and fresh pandan cooler drink and my friend chose salad and Hot Green tea. We shared all the food. When we placed our order with the staff, he informed us that it is cash payment only. I was expecting it because PH has mentioned it in her post.

The salad is quite decent. I like that they just give a bit of salad dressing and did not drown the leaves in sauce. The hot green tea just used a sachet of Lipton Green tea. The fresh pandan cooler drink is refreshingly cold and has a strong pandan taste but is sweeter than what I would have liked it to be. I wonder could I have requested for a non sweet version or the drink has been pre-made in bulk with sugar added.

Two plates of grilled salmon.

Lucky for me, the portion of mashed potatoes is not that much. It is creamy and I can taste a bit of sour cream in it so it was tasty. The seasonal vegetables are my favourite broccoli and capsicum.

Both pieces of salmon are not big but they are very fresh and tender so at this price, I would be back to eat this dish again despite having to pay cash. Big eaters may still be hungry after having this salmon set lunch.

Dessert is this small piece of carrot cake with cinnamon taste.

Each set lunch is MYR 19.90++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 23.08 nett).

Up to 50% Off Trio Snacks

One Friday evening, we walked past Mak's Chee at Midvalley Mall and saw a promo for 3 snacks from 11 June to 10 July 2019 on weekdays excluding public holidays. As I am seldom out in the evening during weekdays, we seized the opportunity to have dinner together and to take advantage of this promo.

The terms and conditions stated that 2 to 4 persons can only order 1 promo snack, 5 to 8 persons can only order 2 promo snacks and 9 persons and above can order all 3 promo snacks. As there are 3 of us, we can only order 1 promo snack so we decided to order promo 352 (large).

The plate of plain rice is not listed in the menu but the staff said we could order it. We did not ask for the price so we did not know the price until we saw the bill. The price for it is MYR 3++ (10% service tax and 6% SST = MYR 3.48 nett).

The promo large portion of braised beef brisket and tendon costs MYR 22.90++ (MYR 26.56 nett). The staff asks if we would like to swap the brisket or tendon with tripe or have all 3 but we politely said no to tripe. It seems that they now serve braised tripe which is not printed on their menu yet.

I ordered a small portion of sui gao dumplings (2) and prawn wantons (3) at MYR 15.90++ (MYR 18.44 nett) and a bottle of milk tea placed in a bucket of ice at MYR 8.50++ (MYR 9.86 nett) which I shared with my friends. Next time I will just order the prawn wantons because I like them better than the sui gao dumplings.

My friend had this large portion of broad wanton noodles in broth at MYR 17.90++ (MYR 20.76 nett). The sui gao dumplings and wantons are hidden underneath the noodles.

The braised beef briskets and tendons look messy but taste fine. We could not finish them so we took the balance home in our own container.

Total is MYR 79.10 nett for 3 pax, an average of MYR 26.40 per pax which is quite ok.
